Playing With Fire

My entire body ached and my brain was tired. I'd been sitting in the hospital bed for four hours now and the nurses said the baby might not be here today, since I'm only like 3 cm. Eric was lounging on the chair next to the bed, watching TV.

"So when is Brian gonna get here?" Eric asked.

"I have no idea, can you call him please?" I asked as I shifted in pain. Eric groaned dramatically and grabbed my phone. My eyes closed as another contraction hit. It was a strong one and I let out a few groans. As Eric talked on the phone, I laid there, in pain for about two minutes. Eric hung up and looked at me.

"Brian is on his way. He also said he was sorry that it took so long, and that their manager wanted them to record a song," Eric smiled and set my phone down.

"Ok," I mumbled. The door to my room opened and the nurse walked in with the doctor.

"Good evening Ever, how are you feeling?" The doctor asked.

"I am really tired and really really sore," I told him and he smiled.

"Alright, give me a number between zero and ten," he went down to the end of the bed and lifted my blanket.

"Somewhere between seven and eight," I answered and he nodded. He went on to checking me out and taking a look.

"Ok, you are about four cm now, but your water has not broken yet. I'm going to wait about a half hour, if you don't change at all, I'm going to break it, alright?" He asked and I nodded.

"Yeah," I muttered and closed my eyes. I've been up since three in the morning and I don't want to go back to sleep until Brian gets here. The doctor and Hanna left and it was quiet in the room.

"You and Brian finished her room, right?" Eric asked.

"Yep, we finished it a while ago. I think Val wants to do something with it though," I said quietly and Eric got up from the chair and stood next to me.

"You can go to sleep you know," He ran his hand along my face.

"I know, I want to wait for Brian though," I said and Eric chuckled.

"Brian will understand if you are sleeping when he gets here," he chuckled more. As I laid there I felt another contraction come and this time it was stronger than before and all of my muscles tensed and I groaned out in pain. Eric rubbed my shoulders and I felt tears begin to fall.

"Why can't she just come out now?" I cried and Eric just rubbed my arm.

"I know she wants to but she's being stubborn, like her mother," Eric made light of the situation as the contraction ended. The door opened again and I looked to see Brian, Matt and Val all walking in. Brian immediately came to my side and kissed me.

"I am so sorry it took that long," he said and I nodded.

"What did the doctor say?" Val asked.

"Her water hasn't broken yet and he will be back in like fifteen minutes to check and if nothing changed, he is breaking it. But I think he's going to break it anyways," Eric shrugged and Val nodded.

Three more hours later and I was laying in the hospital bed, groaning and crying in pain. I was around 8 cm and the doctor broke my water a while ago. My body was so tired and so sore I didn't know how much longer I was going to be able to do this.

"Brian," I said and he looked at me.

"Yeah?" He asked.

"Can you grab my water cup?" I asked.

"Yeah," he grabbed it and handed it to me. I took a drink and laid my head back.

"Hello everyone, excuse me," Hanna said quietly and went to check me again. She felt and did her thing and then looked at me.

"Alright, you are at nine cm and are 100% effaced. I'm going to go get a few nurses and the doctor, your little girl is gonna be here soon," she left the room and I looked at Brian. He had this big smile on his face and I just sighed as another contraction hit and made me make all sorts of weird noises. A few minutes later Hanna and Dr. Hansen came in with two other nurses.

"Hi Ever, let's take a look here," Dr. Hansen said and sat down at the end of the bed and took a look.

"Ok, you are ten cm now, we're gonna get you all set up for this," he smiled and the nurses got to moving my legs and hooking me up to more fluids and getting this all set up. As they were setting up I got this extreme urge to push, and with it came a semi constant pain that felt horrible. My jaw was shaking and the tears were falling. Dr. Hansen got into position and looked up at me.

"Alright, are you ready to push?" He asked and I nodded. Brian grabbed my hand and kissed my forehead. Dr. Hansen said push and I put all of my might into pushing. It sucked to be honest.

"You're doing great Ever," I herd Brian say and I got ready to push again.

"A few more and she'll be out," the doctor said and I pushed. This time though, I pushed harder. I just want the pain and soreness to end, even though I know it won't.

"One more," the doctor called out and I pushed, with all my might. In a seconds time I went from the worst pain in my life to nothing, there was no pain and she was out. Dr. Hansen quickly set her on my chest and wrapped a towel around her. I stared down at her and felt the tears fall. Brian kissed my head and I rubbed her back.

"Would you like to do the honors of cutting the cord?" The nurse looked at Brian and he nodded before walking to the end of the bed and cutting the cord. My heart was full and something inside of me felt whole, like it was filled. Even though I didn't know there was emptiness in me. Too soon, the nurse came over and grabbed her quickly and took her to the scale to weigh her and do all the vitals stuff. Dr. Hansen got to cleaning up and finishing up. Once that was done, he smiled at me and went over by the baby.

"She's here," Brian whispered quietly to me and I kissed him.

"She is," I whispered back while letting out a small laugh while crying. We were complete, a family now. And I couldn't be happier.

Whoop whoop. New chapter. In the next few chapters you will find out what the baby's full name is, Ever's first few weeks as mom, and their wedding! After the wedding the story will probably end, but I might write a sequel.
