(Love) Contract

New problems

Tara’s POV

I tried not to pay too much attention to Matt. He was confusing me and I knew I should have said no when he asked me to drive with him.
And at one moment I was really close to telling him, how I really thought about him and Brian and Michelle, the whole story, but I didn’t.
He couldn’t be so blind, could he?
But again, this was not my problem to solve, how would Brian react when I told Matt about this?
About his past?
He wouldn’t be pleased…
He would feel betrayed, just like he felt after Michelle… past repeating itself…

“Why are you saying things like that? Brian is your friend?” I asked and cursed myself for not keeping my mouth shut.
“What do you mean?” Matt frowned and looked at me from the side.
“You are warning me off him. Why?” I asked but I might know the answer already and I didn’t wanna hear it.
“Fine, listen. I told you I like you. Tara I could imagine us having something together, you and me. I just can’t see you and Brian as a real couple. He is not the real relationship guy, or why do you think I had to find him a fake girlfriend? Why did I make this job offer? He has problems Tara… and he is… He always told us he doesn’t want a serious relationship anymore… at least not in the near future…” Matt sighed and I didn’t know how to react.
Was Matt right?
Are Brian and I are just going with the flow? Just because we had to spend time together, we did?
But I felt like a friend.. like maybe something more like a friend?
Then why was there still this attraction towards Matt?

“Do you know why?” I asked and my eyes opened wide, shit I really shouldn’t speak anymore during this trip, this would get me into trouble.
“What do you mean why? Why he doesn’t want another relationship?” He asked and I sighed.
“Yeah.”
“Well… hm… He was pretty crushed after his last relationship ended… he always had these flings going on, not really seeing any of the girls twice, so… that was pretty obvious that he doesn’t want more.” Matt shrugged and I bit my tongue not to say more.
“Did he talk to you about it?”
“Yes… he did.” I couldn’t deny it.
“Oh.” His only reply, I guess he didn’t think Brian would be that open about it.

My phone rang and I looked at it, oh nooo.
“Brian?” Matt asked and I shook my head.
“Stupid ex. He is trying to… get to me since months… and I don’t know how to get rid of him.”
“May I?” Matt asked and before I could reply he took the phone from my hand and picked up.
“Who is that?” Matt asked his voice all deep and smooth, with slight touch of aggression, which was kind of wrong on my part, but turned me totally on.
“It doesn’t have to concern you who is here. Let me tell you something, bro.” Matt stretched the last word extra-long and annoyingly.
“Don’t call her again. Don’t try to contact her in any way. She doesn’t want to speak to you and she won’t. I’m gonna make sure of that. Are we clear?” Matt said and then listened for a while making me frown.

Matt’s POV

“Maybe you better listen, tough guy. I saw you… you and her. I thought she is so in love with your band mate? Didn’t look like that to me, in that park the other night?”
“What are you talking about?” I looked at Tara from the side and tried not to show any emotion.
“Oh, did I find a weak spot there?” Tara’s ex taunted.
“So are you having a secret affair with my ex behind the back of your friend? Do you think some guys from the press will be interested in this little story?” He asked and I breathed deeply in and out.
“No one will believe that. That was nothing.” I said and parked again at the side of the road.

Tara mouthed ‘What’s going on?’ And I didn’t know how much I should tell her… or rather not.
“Did you know that I talked with her boyfriend before, he was also not very nice to me, but maybe he would be very interested in what’s going on between his best friend and his girl?”
I was trying to think of the best way out of this, since Brian and Tara not really were a couple, Brian wouldn’t be too pissed at hearing that we had something going on, he knew I liked her, told him that myself.
On the other hand, he wouldn’t be too pleased either… how could this guy know what happened in the park, it was dark, we were alone.
Another problem what if he would go to the press, really making a story out of it, would everything be revealed, would they find out?
And if he told Brian and Brian wouldn’t react as this guy was planning to, would he guess that something was wrong… would it be too late to change anything?
How would we get out of this trouble?

“What do you want?” I asked finally, it always came down to this.
“I want what is mine… Let me speak to Tara.” He said and I shook my head.
“Not possible.”
“Don’t be like that, I just wanna hear her voice, she is refusing to talk to me.” He said and I rolled my eyes.
“Must have a good reason. So what do you want?” I asked again and I saw in Tara’s eyes panic rising, she must be guessing what our talk was about.
“Let me think about it and next time, I wanna talk to lover boy again.” With that he hung up.

I hit the steering wheel and made Tara flinch.
“Sorry.” I murmured, my thoughts are running around my mind wild, not knowing what to do. I hated that feeling.
“What did he say? What did he want?” Tara asked quietly and looked a little shocked.
I unbuckled my seatbelt again and pulled her toward me, as far as it was possible in this car.
She laid her head on my shoulder and breathed deeply in, as did I.
Her scent calmed me down, we had to talk to Brian… we had to think of something.
This would make everything even more complicated.

“I don’t know yet. He wanted to speak to you, but I refused. He…” I had to say it, because we had to come up with a good explanation, he wouldn’t let this go…
He seemed to want something, I just didn’t know what and what this all was about…
“He saw us.” I told her finally.
“What us? At the concert? Was he there?” Tara asked confused and I shook my head.
“No, he saw us is in the park, kissing. He wants to tell it Brian, he thinks… well like everybody else, that he is your boyfriend, and that we have a silent affair behind Brian’s back. He wants something for keeping it quiet, I guess… He wants to speak to Brian next… Tara since when is this guy calling you? Who is he? And what does he really want?” I demanded.
Tara looked uncomfortable and pulled away from me. “I need to speak to Brian.”
That’s all she said and buckled up her seatbelt and turned away.
