(Love) Contract

Brian’s POV

I waited at home for Tara to arrive, I called her when I got home, thought she should be here not much later, but she wasn’t.
She told me they had some trouble on their way and they needed more time, but they are on their way.
What trouble was she speaking about?
Between her and Matt?
Or with the car?
The road?
I felt aggravated and was pacing the room back and forth, why was this so disturbing for me?
Why did I hate the feeling of knowing, she was with Matt?
I shouldn’t care, she wasn’t mine.. well not really… but the contract said otherwise… and what did my feelings say?
Well, that’s a totally different matter… I didn’t want to think about for now.

A car pulled in my driveway and I recognized it as Matt’s right away. I walked towards the door and saw Tara and Matt talking in the car, this was a weird feeling, watching from the door how they are sitting there and for a split second I remembered the situation with Michelle and Matt, I quickly shook my head and walk towards them.
I was trying not to think about the past, trying to shove the hurting memory back into the dark where it belonged, but still remembering Jimmy’s sentence of not letting the past repeat itself.

They didn’t seem to realize I was there, so when I opened the car I just heard the last part of the sentence “-I will talk to him alone.”
“What do you want to talk to me about, Matt?” I asked and both seemed to be so lost in their conversation that they not even heard me opening the door.
“Let’s get inside.” Matt said and I leaned down, first - claiming what was mine… at least that’s what the contract says, right?!

I kissed Tara and let my tongue glide over her lips, tasting her sweetness, first she didn’t react but soon allowed me entrance and I smiled into our kiss.
“Don’t leave me like that… I was searching for you.” I whispered and saw that Matt was already at my front door.
“I didn’t mean to… Jimmy should have talked to you.”
I rolled my eyes, “He did, wasn’t really helpful.”
“Sorry, but he asked me… and… Brian… we have a problem.” Tara looked concerned and I pulled her out of the car and into my embrace, I got way too used to the feeling of her close to me.
But still, I liked it so much.
“A problem with him, or another problem?” I motioned with my head towards Matt and she didn’t meet my eyes, making me frown.
“Well, it includes him… but the source is something else.” She took my hand and she felt ice cold, something really was making her worried and I didn’t like that.
“What is the source?” I asked and she grabbed her bag before walking to my house.
“John.” She replied and I tensed, her ex… is that the trouble she was talking about?
“Did he call you?” I asked and she nodded.
“Let’s get inside, and Brian… I want to stay, I want to be part of this talk.” Tara said, meeting my eyes and I nodded.
“Of course you will. I won’t send you away.” I told her and laid my arm around her waist, wasn’t that also part of the contract, her and me… through thick and thin?

Matt’s POV

I stood in Brian’s living room waiting for the two to arrive, what was taking so long?
And why did Brian act this way, when we were the only ones around?
Or are we still being watched?
Tara refused to talk to me any further about her ex, not without Brian being around, I guess he already knew the extend of everything, just I was again…left in the dark.
AND GOD DAMN IT EVERYBODY KNEW I HATED THAT!

Finally they walked in and Brian sat on his couch looking at me with an eyebrow lifted.
“Tara, will you please leave. Brian and I need to talk.” I said and smiled at Tara a little, but she shook her head at me.
“Please, this is something between us.” I told her again, we had this discussion in the car, which Brian interrupted, both being stubborn. The thing was I knew Brain and me, we were both sometimes acting as dickheads, we wouldn’t give in so easily and a discussion could quickly get out of hand and I didn’t want her to witness that.
“No, Matt. This is also concerning me, I’m staying.” Tara said firmly and I closed my eyes a short moment, Brian must know that this wouldn’t be too pleasant so maybe…
“Don’t look at me like that, she stays.” Brian said before I could even start to say anything.
“Fine, whatever. Her ex called… we have a problem. We need to discuss a few certain things. But first of all we need to have a clear idea of this guy, so… since you wanna stay, tell us about him.”

Tara’s eyes widened and she looked at Brian searching for help, making my stomach ache, why did she trust him more than me?
“What? Why did you pick up?” Brian looked angry and surprised at Tara.
“I told you not to pick up, when you see he is calling you. I told you I will take that into my hands.” He got up and walked towards her, she shook her head.
“I didn’t. Matt did but it’s more complicated then this Brian… We should… maybe we should talk alone first.” She looked at Brian and I frowned.
She wanted to talk to him alone, not wanting to have me there, when she would tell him we kissed, we were watched kissing, but she was damn wrong if she thought that I would go and leave them alone, because I could be as stubborn as these two.

“Why did you pick up?” Brian turned towards me.
“She looked afraid and I wanted to help her. Why? You did the same, right?” I asked and Brian clenched his fist turning to me.
“Hell, yes I did. But I earned her trust and know what’s going on. You didn’t. It’s none of your business.” Brian said and makes me frown.
“What does this have to do with anything? What does it mean earned her trust? Damn it, she said he was making troubles, I wanted to get rid of him… but that’s beside the freaking point.” I said and my temper was slowly rising.
“Listen, Brian. Can we go to the kitchen for a second? I need to talk to you. Just you and me.” Tara tried to soothe the situation but I wouldn’t have any of this.
“No.” I said before Brian could agree.
“Matt, let me talk to Brian… alone.”
“No.”

Brian looked confused between me and her , trying to guess what’s going on.
“What is this about? What is really happening here? Its more than just that this guy called, right?” Brian frowned.
“I told you it’s a little more complicated than that. So could we talk about what is really going on now?!”I asked and Brian sat back down on his couch, motioning Tara over to sit beside him but she looked a little uncertain, was she afraid of Brian’s reaction?
Was she afraid how he would react knowing, just how close Tara and I had been, that we have been seen making out.. kissing… would Brian be pissed, would everything be ruined when we told him?
“Fine, I am listening, so what does the douche-bag want? And why are you two acting so strange?” Brian asked and I sighed.
“Since I don’t really know, why this guy keeps on bugging Tara, I will just tell you what he said.” I started and Tara moved to sit beside Brian, she didn’t sit on his lap, like he wanted to but beside him, maybe to be able to calm him down?
“Alright, start, since we are in this together, I think Tara and I should reveal what we had talked about earlier.” Brian looked at Tara and she looked a little ashamed.
“I.. I guess… there is no way around it.” She looked down on the floor and Brian grabbed one of her hands in his.
“It’s okay, he won’t think bad about you or anything. He will react just like me, trust me Tara. We need to come clean, so we can get rid of him.” I looked between them, the moment felt so intimate that I nearly had the need to go away, but since it was Tara all this was about, I couldn’t. I had to stay and figure out what was really going on here.
