Chapter 33

"Mrs. Haner, always a joy." Kevin said with a roll of his eyes. Tammy smiled, and leaned against the edge of the door, "Oh come on now, call me Syndy. We do this every year, don't you think we're past formalities?" she asked, still not letting any of the cops in the door. "Cut the crap, we're here to search the premises." he said growing irritated. "Someone has a stick up his ass today," Tammy replied with a smirk, and held out her hand, "Your warrant?" she asked letting her smile fade. Kevin handed her the warrant, and she looked it over slowly with a smirk, keeping them all waiting in the entryway.

Tammy held out her hand again, keeping her eyes on the warrant. Kevin looked at her hand confused, and she gave him a duh look, "Pen?" she asked cocking a brow, "Seriously how many times have we done this?" she continued as he reached into his jacket pocket for a pen. He gave her an unamused look when she took the pen from him, and signed the warrant. "Here you go," she said handing the pen and warrant back to him, "Now anything you don't find here, won't be dismissible in court." she said with a smile finally opening the door all the way so they could enter. "Try to be careful please," Tammy said as cops dispersed through out the house, "You are being watched," she said pointing out a few cameras, "And will be responsible for any damages." she finished, all signs of amusement gone.

Tammy let out a sigh as the cops disappeared into different parts of the house. She wasn't worried that they would find anything, cause they won't. This was all just an inconvenient hassle, and it was keeping her from doing what she really wanted to do. She walked over to the intercom by the door, and buzzed the booth, "Come up to the house, Jarrett." she said. "On my way." he replied. Tammy turned around, and her eyes locked with Jena. She could see the worry on her face, and even a little fear. Tammy felt the anger rise. If her hunch was correct, then she had every reason to be afraid. She warned her.

Shane walked through the front door, and immediately felt the tension in the air. "You two need to go home." Tammy said calmly, not taking her eyes off Jena, if that was even her real name. "No way." Kimmie said closing some of the distance between the two. "The guys are going to be gone for at least 72 hours. There's nothing for you to do here. Go home." Tammy said tightening her fists to control her rage. "And do what? Wait around for you to call?" Kimmie asked. She didn't want to leave. Matt was in jail, and she wanted to do something about it. She didn't want him to go down. This isn't what she wanted at all. "You'll be lucky if you get that." Tammy snapped, letting some of her anger slip.

Kimmie's eyes widened, and she took a step back. "What the hell is that suppose to mean?" she asked. Why the hell was Tammy being so cold to her all of a sudden. Tammy squeezed her eyes shut, and pinched the bridge of her nose, "Jarrett, get her out of here, and then go home until further notice." she said looking at him. Shane nodded, and gently grabbed Kimmie's arm, who still had her eyes locked on Tammy. "Come on." he whispered, pleading with his eyes not to push this. Something was up, and it was only going to make it worse.
Kimmie started to let Shane pull her away, but something inside of her didn't want to let this go. She yanked her arm away, and turned back to Tammy, who was about to head up the stairs. "What the hell is your problem?" Kimmie snapped, and Tammy turned, "Excuse me?" she asked cocking a brow. "Why are you acting like this? What the hell did I do to you?" she asked. Tammy narrowed her eyes, and stormed over to her. "Are you a cop?" she asked harsh. "What?" Kimmie asked, the question catching her off guard. "Are. You. A. Cop?" Tammy repeated, eye blazing. Kimmie shook her head, "No." she lied, tucking her hair behind her ear.

Tammy's face went blank with emotion, and she turned away, heading for the stairs again, "Go home." she said one final time as she walked up the stairs to make sure the cops weren't making a mess of her daughters room. Why they search it is beyond her. Who in their right mind would stash shit in a child's room? Kimmie felt Shane grab her arm again, and she looked at him. "We need to go." he said with worry in his eyes. Kimmie nodded, and followed him out. How did she know?

***********************************************************************************************************
Jacoby grabbed a beer out of the fridge. Nothing like beer and salami for lunch. "Hey," he heard Tobin behind him, "You need to come see this." he said when he turned to look at him. Jacoby grabbed his sandwich off the counter, and followed Tobin to the living room. The TV was on, and it looked like some kind of press release. "What's up?" Coby asked sitting on the couch next to Jerry. "Avenged have been arrested. The Chief's about to make a statement." Jerry said, stealing half of Jacoby's sandwich. "Hey fucker." Coby said trying to grab it back, but Jerry took a bit before he could. "This is good," he said with a mouth full of food, "You should make me one when this is over." he finished, taking another bite of the half he stole. "Make your own damn sandwich." Jacoby grumbled, a smile coming out when Jerry chuckled.

All their eyes went to the TV when the Chief walked into frame. "Good afternoon," Richard greeted the press, "As most of you know the gang known as Avenged Sevenfold were arrested early this morning. We can not disclose all the details at this moment, the investigation is on going. I can tell you they have a lengthy list of charges, six counts of murder, and five counts of kidnapping the most serious charges topping the list...."

Jacoby listened to the Chief talk, but wasn't quite paying attention. Something else had his eye. The name, Chief Richard Halifax, was at the bottom of the screen. Halifax? Where had he seen that name before? He knows it wasn't Richard, it was something else. Jacoby stood abruptly, and left the room to his office. The guys watched him leave with confused looks on their faces. "Where the hell is he going?" Tony asked. Jerry shrugged, and grabbed Jacoby's plate, "I don't know, but he lost the rest of this sandwich." he said taking a bite.

Jacoby searched through the drawer in his file cabinet that held all his past arrest records, and paperwork. It didn't take long to find what he was looking for. There it was, the signature of the officer that signed all his paper work staring at him. Shane Halifax. I was eight years ago, a random homicide they tried to pin on him. He was out in less than 24 hours. The memory of the night flooded his mind, and his eyes widened. That security guard, that's where he has seen him before. Avenged had a cop amongst them.

Pulling out his phone, he quickly called Tammy, silently praying she wasn't sitting in jail with the rest. He knew the Berrys would be busy with the guys down at the station. "Hey Coby." Tammy answer, and he let out a silent thank you. "Hey, you have a cop in your works." he said strait to the point. "Not now, they're still here." she told him. Jacoby knew what she was talking about. A search of the place was inevitable. "Leaving empty handed again guys?" he heard her talking to the cops there, "Hey is McNicoles there?" he asked. He was the superior officer that night, the arrest was his call. "Yeah, he's just leaving," she told him, "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out." he heard her say, and let out a chuckle. "Tell that asswipe I said hi." he said.

Tammy grinned from her seat on the stairs as she watched the cops leave, "Jacoby says hi!" she called out to Kevin just before he walked out the door. He paused, and looked at her with her smirk. He didn't respond instead walked out slamming the door. He wasn't too happy they didn't find anything, but he was kind of expecting it. Searching their house was almost a waste of time, but if they stopped searching, then they would start stashing.
Tammy stood up from the stairs, "How do you know we have a cop?" she asked. Did he know something about Jena she didn't. "Shane Halifax, you ever hear that name before?" he asked. "It sounds familiar. I know a Richard Halifax." she told him. "No not the Chief, wait how do you know Richard?" he questioned. "He worked on my case against Miles and his friends. He was the investigating and arresting officer." Tammy's eyes went wide when something hit her, "Micah's Shane." she whispered. "Yeah he is." Jacoby said.

That's who he reminded her of. He was Richards son. She could see it now. She remembered Richard telling her about his son that was about to start his rookie year. He was so happy, and one of the few that truly believed her story. Tammy had a lot of respect for him. Richard was one of the ones that got into the job for the right reasons. Could it really be possible they had two cops amongst them? "What are you doing right now?" she asked Jacoby as she headed for the door. "I was getting ready to head over to yours." he told her. "Meet me at the public library." she told him, locking up the house. "The library? Why?" he asked. "I don't think Shane is the only one, and I can't find what I need online." she told him as she hopped in a car. "On my way." he said before the call ended.

Tammy pulled up in front of the library to see Jacoby waiting for her. "I can't even remember the last time I've been in one of these." he said when she joined him on the sidewalk. "I can tell, you unedgeimicated fucker." she said with a grin. Jacoby chuckled, "Edgeimicated?" he questioned as they started up the front steps. "You heard me, now come on I'll learns you how to use one of these." she said her smile wide. Jacoby laughed and shook his head as he followed her through the doors.

"What are we doing here anyway?" he asked as they walked to the check-out desk. "Looking at Microfilm." she told him when they approached the desk. Jacoby gave her a confused look, and she just smiled. The librarian working looked to be in her early to mid sixties. "Excuse me ma'am," Tammy said, and the lady looked up at her, "Do you remember anything about a serial killer known as the California Doll Maker?" she asked. "Oh absolutely," the woman said, "It was one of the biggest cases in the 90s." she told her. "So it did happen, he is real?" Tammy asked, and the woman looked at her as if she was crazy. "Yes of course." she said. Tammy looked at Jacoby, confusion still all over his face. "Then why can't I find anything online about it?"

"Are you sure?" the librarian asked, not believing that there would be nothing. "Look for yourself." Tammy said, pointing to the woman's computer. She did just that, growing more confused when she too was brought to a no results page. "That's odd." she mumbled. "Do you have Microfilm of the newspapers then?" Tammy asked. "Yeah, just a moment." the woman said standing and walking away. "What's this about?" Jacoby asked once she was gone. "I think Jena's a cop," she told him, "She told Matt her parents were murdered by this guy, and she shot him, but everything we found said they were killed in a car accident."
Jacoby felt his heart clench for Matt. He seemed to really like this girl, and this was going to devastate him. He knew Annie, he saw the downward spiral Matt went through after he found her. Jacoby had no idea how he was going to handle this. The librarian came back with a box filled with several microfilm containers, each one of them labeled with a date. "Here's everything from the first crime scene to him being shot by the Reynolds girl."

Tammy's eyes snapped to the woman. So it was true. "Um maybe we can save some time here," she said looking back down at the dozens of microfilm containers, "Can I see the one pertaining to his death?" she asked, and the woman nodded pulling out the small container, and handing it to her. "This girl that shot him, Reynolds is her name?" Tammy asked. "Yes, Kimberly if I remember correctly." She felt the anger start to rise again, but kept it hidden away from the helpful woman. "Do you know what happened to her after all of this?" she questioned. "I believe she's a detective now," the woman told her, "Always wanted to follow in her fathers footsteps. Good man he was," the lady recalled, "She was just in the paper several months back about her promotion." she finished, and Tammy smiled again. "Can I see that one too?" she asked, receiving a nod before the woman disappeared again.

Tammy locked eyes with Jacoby again, letting some of her anger show. "What are you going to do?" he asked quietly. "I'm going to print these articles out, and confront her." she told him. "You going to be able to keep your cool?" he asked kind of concerned. He has seen her angry, but he has never seen her really snap. He saw the after affects from what she did to that piece of shit sperm donor of hers, and he wasn't too sure he wanted to see her snap. "I'll try."
