Fake Reflection

Chapter 14

The guys went from room to room dousing the place with gasoline. “Dispatch just sent units our way.” Jimmy said as he listened to the police scanner running through an ear piece. He shared a knowing look with Matt before dumping the rest of his gas on the dead man restrained to the chair. He knew there was someone out there. “Too bad they’re too late.” Brian chuckled as the five exited the house. They’ll be long gone before units even get to the dirt road. Brian struck up a book of matches, and tossed them inside. They waited only a moment as the flames spread through out the house before piling into their SUV, and speeding away.

“I’m telling you guys, someone was out there.” Jimmy said as the five walked into the mansion. They watched about six units, an ambulance, and two fire trucks pass them on the highway as they headed home. “It makes sense. How else were the cops called so soon?” Zacky asked. “It did look like someone had been at that window.” Matt added just as Tammy started to descend the stairs. She walked over, and gave Brian a peck on the cheek before her expression turned into confusion. “What’s going on.” she asked noticing the looks on everyone's faces. “Someone called the cops before we even lit the place up.” Brian told her. Well that’s never happened before. “And I heard a noise outside, and someone run into the trees.” Jimmy added. “You think someone followed you?” she asked. “I don’t know about that, but there was definitely someone out there,” Jimmy said, “Should of used the thermal.” he added at a mumble. “Don’t worry about it,” Matt said plopping an arm across his shoulders, “No one’s going to give a shit about that fucking pedophile anyway.” Jimmy gave him a nod before heading upstairs.

Brian looked at Tammy as the guys dispersed. She seemed deep in thought as she stared at the floor, chewing on the inside of her cheek. “What‘s running through that head of yours?” he asked causing her to look up at him suddenly. “You sure you weren’t followed?” she asked again. “I didn’t see anyone following us.” he said kind of shrugging it off. He wasn’t too worried about it. They wouldn’t find anything to connect them to it anyway. “But Jimmy said he heard someone.” she said. “That doesn’t mean someone followed us. It could have been a hunter, or park ranger that just happened to come across the house, and heard the screams.” he explained. Tammy gave him a nod, but didn’t respond. “You’re not buying that are you?” he asked giving her a knowing look. She shook her head, and Brian let out a sigh. “What is it?” he asked. “Jena.” she whispered, not wanting Matt to hear. He went upstairs, but she wasn’t ready to tell him how she felt about her. “What about her?” Brian questioned confused. She seemed harmless to him, and Matt seemed to like her. Jena has been the first person he’s shown any interest in since Annie, and he was happy about that. “I don’t trust her.” Tammy told him. Brian smirked at her, “Baby you don’t trust anyone.” he said. She gave him an unamused look, and his smirk vanished. “Okay, so why don’t you trust her?” he asked. Obviously she had a reason for it.

“I caught her snooping around Matt’s office door the other day. She said she was just curious as to why he was always in there. I asked her why she cared, and she didn’t respond, so I gave her an out, and she jumped on it. Played it off like she had the hots for him, but-” Brian cut her off, “You don’t believe her.” Tammy hesitated for a moment, “I’m not entirely sure. She said no when I asked her if she thought he was hot, but I could tell she was lying.” Brian looked at her a little confused, “She tucks her hair behind her ear when she lies.” Tammy told him. Brian smirked again, “I think you’re just being paranoid. I really doubt Jena followed us, and called the cops.” he said. “Jesus Christ Brian I’m not being fucking paranoid,” she said a little irritated, “This is why I didn’t want to say anything till I had proof.” she grumbled, turning and heading for the stairs. “Okay, okay hey wait,” Brian said stopping her by the arm. She turned to look at him, “Why don’t you keep an eye on her until you find whatever it is you’re looking for, and keep me posted. If your hunch is right, then we’ll go to Matt together, okay?” he said trying to reason with her. “Okay.” she agreed, and he wrapped his arms around her, kissing the top of her head. “Lilly sleeping?” he asked. “Yea, passed out watching a movie. I just put her in bed when you guys got home.” she said pulling away slightly, and looking up at him. He gave her a gentle kiss before leading her upstairs, “Come on, I’ll help you take your mind off of things.” he said giving her a grin. Tammy let out a giggle before opening the bedroom door, “Shower first,” she said shoving him towards the bathroom, “Then you better blow my fucking mind.” she said with a challenging smile.

Shane sat anxiously on Kimmie’s couch. They have keys to each others houses, and he’s been there since Syndy let him leave. It’s been a few hours, and he wasn’t sure exactly when she would be back. He just hoped she got something, and didn’t have the patients to wait to see it. Jasper laid next to him with his head in Shane’s lap as he flipped through the channels on the tv for the hundredth time. Jaspers head popped up when a car pulled into the driveway, and he headed strait for the door. “Bout time.” Shane mumbled.

Kimmie climbed out of her car, and shut the door. She noticed Shane’s car parked on the street, so she didn’t panic when she seen a light on inside. She was almost expecting him to be there waiting for her. She walked in the door, and greeted Jasper with a scratch on his head before heading to the kitchen for a beer. It’s been a long night. She turned from the fridge, and nearly jumped out of her skin when she seen Shane standing there. She didn’t hear him come into the kitchen at all. Shane smirked at her before the grim look on her face wiped it away. “What happened?” he asked concerned.

Kimmie chugged about half of her beer before tossing him the video camera she set on the counter. Shane opened the LCD screen and turned it on. The screams came through, and Kimmie bolted from the kitchen. She heard enough screaming tonight. Shane stood there wide eyed at the images on the screen. “Wait a sec.” he whispered to himself as he took a closer look at the man in the chair. “Hey Kimmie!” he called out leaving the kitchen. He found her sitting on the couch, staring blankly at the tv. “Hey,” he said sitting next to her, “You know who this is don’t you?” he asked showing her the man he had paused on the screen. “He looked familiar.” she said quietly, not looking at the screen. “That’s Lloyd Kissel.” he said, and her gaze snapped to him. “Are you sure?” she asked looking at the man again. “Positive,” he started, “Look at the names on his chest.” he finished handing her the camera, and opening her laptop sitting on the coffee table.

He logged into the police data base, and pulled up Lloyd’s case file. “See, they’re his victims.” he said showing her the case file. Kimmie looked between the camera, and laptop. Sure enough it was him, and all the names matched up with the victims. Now she didn’t know what to feel about the situation. At first she thought the man was innocent, but she was wrong. Lloyd Kissel was tried for 10 counts of rape of a minor. The whole case was a big controversy. He had a thing for teenage girls, but because his DNA was collected illegally, and without his knowledge, he got off. None of the girls could properly identify him because he wore a ski mask, and now he can never be tried for those crimes again. That’s Double Jeopardy, and against the law. Not that he’s alive to be tried again.

Kimmie let out a frustrated groan, and buried her face in her hands, “Who the hell are these people? The fucking Justice League of America?” she asked running her hands down her face. It was obvious that’s why Avenged Sevenfold got a hold of him. They carved the girls names into him, and fucking castrated him. “I don’t know,” Shane said with a shake of his head. This all confused him as well. He can’t say that he wasn’t glad they did what they did to Lloyd. He deserved every bit of it, and they made sure he didn’t get away with it. This man may have gotten away from the justice system, but he didn’t get away from justice. They were suppose to be the criminals, not the ones bringing them down with their own vigilante justice. It didn’t make sense, and he began to wonder if Kimmie was right. Maybe there really is something else going on here.

Kimmie killed the rest of her beer, and leaned back on the couch. She wanted to be mad about this. She wanted to hate them for killing this man, but deep down she just couldn't. She was thankful they got away before police got there. They sped right past her without notice. It wouldn’t surprise her if they were listening in on a scanner, and knew they were coming with how fast they drove down that dirt road. She seen the house light up from the distance, and decided not to wait for the police to get out there. There wouldn’t be any evidence left by the time they got the fire out. Nothing but her video, and she wasn’t even sure if she was going to hand that over now.
