Fake Reflection

Chapter 13

“How long do we have to sit here?” Shane asked Cam as they waited on Syndy. “However long it takes.” Cam said looking down the alley across the street. It was empty right now, but Tammy would be walking down it soon to join the two. “What are they doing anyway?” Shane asked. Cam looked at him a little irritated. “I don’t know. Why do you keep asking questions?” he asked showing his irritation. “Sorry man,” Shane said throwing his hands up in defeat, “They’ve just been some of the most mysterious people to work for.” he said looking out the windshield. “So what, they pay you well, so just shut up and do the job.” Cam snapped. “Aright man, chill the fuck out.” Shane said trying to calm him. “Sorry, I’ve been kind of crabby lately.” Cam mumbled. A smirk broke out on Shane’s face, “Someone needs to get laid.” he said, nudging him a little with his elbow. Cam let out a chuckle, “Maybe.” he said

Cam and Shane jumped, startled a little when the back door flew open. Tammy looked amused at them as she closed the door after getting in. “Jumpy?” she asked cocking a brow. “We didn’t see you coming.” Cam said as he started the car. The amusement disappeared from Tammy’s face. “What do you mean you didn’t see me coming?” she asked seriously. “We were just having a conversation, and didn’t see you.” Shane said looking back at her. Tammy narrowed her eyes at him, “So because you were talking,” she started a little angry, “You weren’t doing your job, and watching me walk down that alley to make sure I got to the car with no problem, is that correct?” she asked crossing her arms. The two men nodded, “I’m sorry what was that?” she asked. “Yes, ma’am.” they said. “I see.” she said with a slight nod. “What is it we pay you for!?” she asked full blown furious. “To watch and protect us, right? You were told to sit there for a fucking reason! To watch and make sure nothing was going on, but because you were talking, you weren’t doing your job, right!?” she ranted, not letting the two get a word in.

The two men sat in silence, not really sure what to say. Syndy doesn’t just go off on people, and she can be kind of intimidating when she does. They glanced at each other nervously before a giggle from the back broke the tension. “You guys are too easy.” Tammy said with a laugh. Shane looked at her confused, and Cam let out a groan. “I hate it when you do that.” he whined, and Tammy laughed harder. Him and Dan have caught a few of Tammy’s fake tongue lashings. “It’s not my fault you fall for it every time.” she said grinning. “Wait, you were just fucking with us?” Shane asked his own smile wanting to come out, but he still wasn’t quite sure what was going on. Tammy nodded, “I don’t care if you were talking. Shit get me going, and I won’t shut up.” she said still grinning. “It’s true.” Cam said as he made his has look like it was talking, mouthing the phrase “Yap, yap, yap”. Tammy let out an offended huff, and flicked his ear. “Owe.” he whined as he rubbed his ear. “You’re not suppose to agree with me.” she grumbled trying to hold back her smile. “Ha, women,” Shane started looking at Cam, “First they want you to agree with them, then they don’t.” he said with a shake of his head. “Tell me about it.” Cam agreed. “Fuck you guys.” Tammy said giving them the finger before crossing her arms, and glaring out her window, unable to hold back her smile as the two men laughed in the front seat.

Shane watched the passing scenery as they drove back to the mansion. Silence fell upon the three, and it wasn’t long before he felt eyes on him. He didn’t have to look to know that Syndy was staring at him. He’s caught her a few times watching him while he was on internal house duty. He wouldn’t be surprised if she’s watched him through the security camera in the booth. Kimmie has expressed her concern about Syndy to him. They met up for lunch out of town Sunday afternoon, and she told him about her day at the beach with them. She told him about being caught eves dropping, and how she hoped she had Syndy convinced she just had a crush on Shadows. Shane didn’t like the thought of that too much. Kimmie tried to play it off like she didn’t, but Shane wasn’t an idiot. They’ve know each other their whole lives, and he knew when she lied. She also had that same look in her eyes when she talked about him that she had when she developed an attraction to Kevin. Shane didn’t like this at all. Kimmie had a knack for falling for the wrong kind of men, and Shadows in his mind was the worst of all. Deep down, he was hoping she would see something tonight that will completely turn her off of him.

“Excuse me ma’am,” Shane started finally tired of being stared at. “God don’t call me that anymore. I feel old.” she said with a slight chuckle. “Sorry,” he said looking back at her. She gave him a look to continue, “Why do you keep staring at me?” he asked. “Because you remind me of someone I know.” she said still studying the man. “Really who?” he asked. “That’s what I’m trying to figure out.” she said with a slight smile before finally looking away from him. Shane turned his gaze back to the windshield. He’s never voiced it, but there was a familiarity about her. He first felt it when he had his interview, and the feeling hasn’t gone away. Out of all of them, Synderella was the one they knew the least about. Still he couldn’t shake the feeling that he’s seen her face before.

Kimmie parked her car in a clearing away from the road. It wasn’t easy following them once they got off the main highway. There were a few times she had to hang back after they turned, so they wouldn’t see her. She had no idea where they were going, but it took over an hour to get to where she was. The road was dirt, surrounded by forest, and she was going to have to walk from here to avoid driving up on them, and getting caught. She didn’t know what to expect to see. She knew what she didn’t want to see. Kimmie had such a great day spending time with Shadows on Saturday. She didn’t want to see something that would tarnish the way she sees him. She really likes what she’s seen in him so far.

Kimmie made her way down the side of the road, camera around her neck, and a video camera in her hand. She knew she had to push aside, and do what she’s there for. That didn’t mean she had to like it. She kicked a rock in frustration. Why was it always the bad boys that got her attention? She had been walking for about twenty minutes before a distant scream got her attention. Kimmie’s head popped up, and she stopped to listen. Sure enough a few moments later there was another scream. Kimmie’s heart began to race. What the hell were they doing to this person?

Kimmie got off the road, and quickly made her way through the trees and brush towards the screaming. It sounded like a man, and whatever they were doing to him was causing a lot of pain. Her mind raced with the worst kinds of thoughts as she came up on an old abandoned house, and the screams were very loud. She didn’t know if she wanted to see this, but she had to do her job. Most of the windows were boarded up, and she couldn’t see in them. She could hear muffled talking from the guys, but couldn’t make out what they were saying. Kimmie made her way along the side of the house finally finding a window with a large enough hole between the boards to see through. She pulled her sleeve down over her palm, and wiped away the dirt on the window. She let out a breath when she turned on the video camera, and put it up to the window.

What Kimmie saw on that LCD screen of the camera was exactly what she didn’t want to see. Five of them, The Rev, Gates, Vengeance, Christ, and of course standing off to the side of the group, face stone cold, was Shadows. Who did they have? Kimmie zoomed in on the man restrained to a chair. He was bloody, and beaten. It looked like they were taking turns doing something. Kimmie watched as Shadows would say one word, not being able to make out what it was, and one of them would….It looked like they were carving something into his chest. Kimmie zoomed in further on the man. They were names, girls names. She focused the camera on the man’s face. He looked familiar.

Kimmie zoomed back out, and caught sight of Gates with an electric bread knife. What the hell was he going to do with that. The smirks on the guys faces were disturbing. It almost seemed like they were having fun. This isn’t what she wanted to see, not at all. Kimmie’s eyes widened when she heard Gates yell very loud and clear, “Cover your ears boys, this is going to get loud.” he said bringing the knife down between the man’s legs. She let out a gasp as Gates began to castrate the man with the knife. Screams pierced her ears, and it brought tears to her eyes. Why were they doing this? She couldn’t take it, and she dropped the camera as she covered her ears. She squeezed her eyes shut as she tried to block out the screams.

Her eyes snapped open when she heard the door to the house open and close. She quickly picked the video camera up off the ground, and ran for the trees. Kimmie stood flat against a big tree, and held her breath. Slowly she peeked around, and seen someone standing where she was moments ago. It was The Rev. He was looking around at the ground, shinning a light from his phone at it. He looked up, and towards the tree line. Kimmie hid herself behind the tree again, and tried to calm her racing heart. She heard movement, and what sounded like a car door closing. She peeked back around, and seen The Rev put something on his head. She seen a small light come on, and hid behind the tree again. Were those fucking night vision goggles? Kimmie’s breathing quickened as her nerves came alive. Please don’t see me, please don’t see me, she kept silently praying to herself.

Kimmie sucked in her breath again when she heard the door to the house open, and close again. “Jimmy,” it was Shadows. As much as she wanted to, Kimmie didn’t dare look yet. “What are you doing out here?” Shadows asked him. “Thought I heard something.” he told him as he continued to scan the trees. “See anything?” Matt asked standing next to him. “No, but doesn’t it look like someone was standing here?” Jimmy asked taking off his goggles, and shining the light on his phone back down on the ground under the window. Matt nodded as he studied the ground. The dirt and dead leaves had clearly been disturbed. “When I came out, I could have sworn I heard someone or something run into the trees.” Jimmy said looking back to the tree line. Matt followed his gaze, and placed a hand on Jimmy’s shoulder, “Probably just a deer or some other animal.” Matt said. Jimmy nodded, but didn’t really accept the conclusion. He just had a feeling someone was out here. “Come on. Time to finish off this piece of shit.” Matt said leading Jimmy back inside.

Kimmie let out the breath she was holding when the house door closed again. They were going to kill this man, and there was nothing she could do about it. She took off through the woods back to her car. Too many mixed feelings were flowing through her as she ran faster and fast through the woods. She couldn’t stay, and get the murder on camera, not with being almost caught just a minute ago. She was going to have to do something else. Kimmie slowed down when she came up on the clearing her car was parked in. Climbing in, she slammed the door closed, and took a few deep breaths. What was she going to do now? She should have known he was really a cold blooded killer. How could she have been so blind? With a heavy sigh she pulled out her phone. Maybe they can get caught in the act, she thought as she dialed 911.
