Fake Reflection

Matt closed his office door, and walked back to his desk. He should have known someone was just fucking with her. Jimmy and Tammy are always fucking with someone. He sat down, and picked the receiver up on his office phone. Something was up with the Secretary of Defense. “Shadz what’s up?” Chester’s voice came through the other end. “Not much man. Hows the New York life treating you?” Matt asked. Linkin Park moved out to New York a few years ago. “You know, the city that never sleeps, means I’m making money 24/7.” Chester replied with a chuckle. Matt grinned. “Listen man I need a favor.” Matt told him. “Name it.” he said. “You got some guys that can go to D.C. and keep an eye on someone for awhile?” Matt asked. “Yea dude. Who?” Chester asked. “William Boyd.” Matt told him. “The Secretary of Defense? Why?” he asked. “He’s hiding something. I’ve been on his ass about this fucking Drug Cartel. They’re killing people for just being in the way, and he’s not doing a Goddamn thing about it. It’s not a priority he says. There’s more important things to take care of first. Fucking bullshit.” Matt ranted to Chester. “Alright, yea I’ll send some people to watch him, and keep you updated.” Chester said. “Thanks man, I appreciate it.” Matt said. “Not a problem. I’ll talk to you later.” he said. “Later dude.” Matt ended the call.

Matt went back to some financial paperwork he was going over, but for some reason his mind kept wondering to a set of deep blue eyes, and they weren’t Annie’s. He had to pull himself away in the hall, or he was going to get lost in them. A small smile crossed his face. He caught a glimpse of her out of the corner of his eye staring at him one day. He’ll admit he’s checked Jena out a few times, Emily too. They were both attractive women, but Jena’s eyes reminded him so much of Annie’s. They were a little deeper of a blue than Annie’s were, but still just as mesmerizing, if not more. Matt shook his head of the distracting thoughts, but he just couldn’t concentrate on the papers in front of him. It’s been so long since he’s been able to hold someone, or even felt the touch of a woman, and he suddenly found himself craving some kind of companionship. Seeing Brian and Tammy so happy together, and now with little Lilly running around….he wanted that in his life, a family. Maybe it was time for him to stop denying himself happiness.

Matt shove the papers off to the side, giving up on getting any work done. He needed to clear his head, and maybe a nice long workout will do the trick. Standing from his desk, he made his way out of his office, and locked the door behind him. He turned away to head to the basement, but something caught the corner of his eye. Jena was coming out of the infirmary. She looked up from her cleaning caddy, and smiled softly at him. He returned her smile, and felt his heart pick up a little. He frowned at the sudden feeling, and subconsciously placed a hand over his chest, looking away. Letting out a sigh he looked back up to the now confused and slightly worried face of Jena. He turned away, and quickly walked to the basement. That’s never happened before, and it worried him a little. Maybe he wasn’t quite ready yet, or maybe he was just scared, scared of loosing someone else. He opened the basement door, and flicked the light on. A workout that’s what he needs to get his thoughts in order.

Meanwhile in LA:
Kevin sat alone in his office going over some cold cases. A video call popped up on his computer screen, and he answered it. “What’s going on with the investigation?” William asked as soon as the call was answered. “It’s only been just over a month,” Kevin started, “These things take time.” he said. “Well your officers need to work faster.” William snapped. Kevin ran a frustrated hand down his face. “They’re working on it, but it hasn’t been easy. Avenged Sevenfold are smart, you know that.” Kevin said irritated. “I don’t give a fuck! Find something to link them to this!” William barked. “And what if I can’t? How do you even know that they’re involved?” Kevin asked showing his irritation with this man. “I don’t care if they are or not. Just fucking find something, ANYTHING to put them behind bars! You want me to have your back for the election, then you need to get Shadows off mine.” he hissed before ending the call.

Kevin stared confused at the now blank screen. What the hell did he mean get Shadows off his back? Was he hounding him about something? Kimmie and Shane check in every weekend, but they haven’t found anything. Shane has started babysitting clients, and discovered that they are more willing to talk, but it’s not useful. Avenged is always helping someone, and it was making it hard to pin anything on them.

Kevin stood from his desk, and left his office. He was going to make a trip to Huntington Beach. Maybe the two will sit down with him, and come up with some kind of plan to find something. It would give him a reason to see Kimmie again. He knows she hates him, and he can’t really blame her. He fucked up, and that was his own fault. She would probably kill him if she found out about the others. Yea that’s right, the girl she caught him with wasn’t the first. He liked having a beautiful woman by his side, but he also liked a variety. She was suppose to be his trophy wife while he made it in politics. Every Governor, or President needs a woman by his side, and he lost one of the best out there. With a smirk he climbed into his car. Maybe he can win her back somehow.

And back to Huntington Beach:
“Do you know what the hell he wants?” Kimmie asked Shane as they waited on Kevin. He left a message on their home answering machines telling them to meet him at the Starbucks in town. “Nope.” Shane said with a shake of his head. Their heads turned to the door when the bell rang as it opened. Kevin spotted them immediately in a corner away from windows. He ordered a black coffee, and joined them. It was obvious neither of them wanted to be there, but this was work, so they needed to get over it. “Have you guys found anything yet?” he asked when he sat down. They shook their heads. “Damn it.” he muttered. “There’s nothing there. We can’t get into The Rev’s computer room, or Shadows office. I’m sure that’s were all the important stuff is.” Kimmie said trying to play nice with her boss/ex.

Kevin nodded, and looked to Shane. “You’ve been going on jobs with them?” he asked. “A few, but always to stay with a client. I never get to see what’s going on.” Shane told him. Kevin rubbed his tired eyes. “Alright here’s what you’re going to do,” he started, “Your hours are regular right?” he asked Kimmie. She nodded. “Okay, how about we try following them.” Kevin suggested. “We could do that. I could let Kimmie know where they are, and she can follow them,” Shane agreed, “There is a job coming up in a couple of days. Cam and I will be waiting on Synderella, and giving her a ride home. That’s all I know about the job, but after she joins us, Kimmie you could follow the others, and see what they are up to.” Shane said looking at her.

Kimmie looked a little worried. What if she got caught following them? What if they killed her? What if she didn’t like what she saw? Deep down inside she didn’t want to see Shadows as a criminal. “Kimmie?” Shane’s voice broke through her thoughts. She looked up at the two men who were staring at her. “What?” she asked, a little embarrassed that she was caught not listening. “Can you do that?” Shane asked again. She looked at him confused. “Take pictures and video of what they are doing?” he asked giving her a slightly worried look. She nodded. “Yea, I can do that.” she said giving into her job.

They nodded at her, and Kevin stood to leave. “I don’t think they’re involved in the Drug Cartel.” Kimmie blurted out. Kevin sat back down. “What makes you think that?” Shane asked. “I over heard Shadows talking on the phone to the Secretary of Defense,” she started to explain, “He wants him to stop them.” she said. It became clear to Kevin then why William wanted Shadows off his back. “It doesn’t matter if they are or not. They need to be put behind bars where they belong,” Kevin said low, “So find whatever you can.” he finished leaving the two, confused at the table.

Kimmie and Shane looked at each other. “He really wants them stopped?” Shane asked. Kimmie nodded. “They are killing people, and Shadows wants it to end. Told him if he didn’t defend his people, he would find someone who will.” she whispered. “Can he do that?” Shane asked a little shocked. “I don’t know, but I think there is something else going on here, and I’m going to find out what.”
