Tough
Results
I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing on the nightstand beside the bed.
"Hello?" I said.
"Is this is Mr. Sanders?"
"Yes it is?" I said sitting up in bed.
"Mr. Sanders, I have the test results and I would like you and your wife to come down to the hospital as soon as possible."
"I'll be right over." I said hanging up the phone. I pushed gently on Val's shoulder.
"Baby wake up." I said and she grumbled before opening her eyes.
"What is it honey?"
"The doctor just called and want us to come to the hospital as soon as possible." I said putting on some fresh clothes. Val got up and dressed with me before going downstairs. Val started the coffee as I went into the living room to call the guys.
No one picked up so I left voice mails. I heard the coffee machine buzz and went into the kitchen pouring me a cup. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs and Zacky appeared into the kitchen. Val handed him a cup of coffee and he gladly took it.
"Why are you guys up so early?"
"The doctor called and told us to get to the hospital. Can you watch the house?" I asked and Zacky nodded sitting down at the bar.
"You know where everything is. I'll call you when we know something. Tell the guys to come over if you get lonely." Val said as we walked out of the house. We got into the car and I drove us to the hospital. I hope these results are good news instead of bad.
I pulled the car into the parking lot and found a space relatively close to the main entrance. I locked the car as we got out and walked into the hospital. We walked down the hall to her room where her doctor was sitting and looking over her chart. The doctor seen us and stood to his feet.
"Is she alright?" I asked.
"Please sit down." we sat down and he looked at the chart in his hand.
"Mr. and Mrs. Sanders, we've gotten her fever down finally but...the tests results show that she does have Breast Cancer."
"Is it treatable?" I asked pulling Val close to me.
"We can blast her with chemo and radiation therapy but unfortunately she's going to have to undergo surgery to remove her right breast and any lymph nodes that have cancer in them."
"Oh man." I said sighing and rubbing my forehead.
"How will this procedure be done." Val asked.
"We'll schedule her surgery for tomorrow and after that we'll start both chemo and radiation."
"Alright." Val said nodding.
"Sign these and I can get her surgery scheduled for tomorrow and for her to get her treatments." The doctor handed me the papers for the procedures and I immediately signed them and handed them back to the doctor.
"You can stay with her until she wakes." The doctor said before leaving the room. I got up from my seat and sat beside her bed and held onto her hand. I have no idea how she's going to take this news.

I opened my eyes and seen Matt sleeping beside me holding my hand while Val was sitting in another chair asleep as well. I felt a whole lot better than I did. I seen the tubes running in both of my arms giving me clear liquids. I must have been really dehydrated or something. I looked over at Matt as he yawn. I squeezed his hand and he looked over at me.
"Hey." I said smiling.
"Hey baby girl. How are you feeling?"
"Better than I was." I said and he looked at me with something on his mind.
"Is there something wrong?" I asked. Matt sat up better in his seat and faced me. He placed his other hand on mine and took a deep breath.
"Sweetheart... the doctor found that you have Breast cancer."
"What's going to happen to me?" I said with tears in my eyes.
"You've been scheduled to have your right breast removed tomorrow and then undergo chemo and radiation therapy a week after surgery for 3 straight days."
"So...I'm going to be alright?" I asked as the tears slid down my cheeks.
"We believe so baby girl." Matt wiped away my tears and held me tightly against him. What the hell am I going to do now? No guy is going to want a girl with only one breast. A nurse came through the door and over to my bed.
"Miss Raelyx Sanders?"
"Yes." I said.
"My name is Melissa Reeves and I'll be your nurse through the entire treatment. How are you feeling?"
"I'm alright. My fever is gone." I said putting a fake smile on my face.
"Right now I'm going to fill you in on what's going to happen after surgery."
"Okay." I said.
"3 days after surgery, you'll be up and walking around until for first treatment so you can build up some strength. Both the chemo and the radiation treatment will make your hair fall out after the first treatment so if you have a bandanna or hat you parents can bring it to you. After your last chemo and radiation treatment, you'll be coming back into the hospital every month for 6 months or until you are completely cancer free."
"My hair will be gone?" I said touching my hair.
"Yes but when you're cancer free, your hair will grow right back but it depends on how fast your hair grows."
"Good thing my hair grows fast." I said laughing.
"Now you rest up and I'll be back later to see how you're doing."
"Okay." I said as she left.
"You rest like Melissa said and we'll be back tomorrow and wait for you to get out of surgery."
"Have you told the guys?" I asked moving to a more comfortable position.
"They know about the possibility of you have cancer. Do you want me to tell them?"
"Yeah. They have a right to know." I said nodding.
"Alright. You rest." Matt kissed my forehead and I closed my eyes drifting off to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ZACKY'S POV~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I sat there with the guys all day long waiting to hear something from Matt about Rae. I'm so worried about her. The guys are watching baseball and I somehow got elected to get beers for everyone. I came out of the kitchen just as Matt and Val came into the house.
"Hey. How's she doing?" I asked.
"I'll let you all know in a minute." I nodded and walked into the living room handing out the beers and sat down beside Johnny.
"Turn off the TV." I looked over to see Matt and I turned off the TV like he asked.
"What's going on? How's Raelyx?" I asked opening my beer.
"Raelyx...the doctor said that she has Breast cancer. Tomorrow she goes into surgery to remove her right breast and any infected lymph nodes. 3 days after surgery she's be up and walking around to regain her strength until she starts the chemo and radiation therapy. Her chemo and radiation is a non-stop 3 day procedure. When that's over she'll be able to come home. If her blood tests come back positive for cancer she has to keep going until she is completely cancer free." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Rae has cancer but thank God it's treatable. I don't know what i would do without her. The whole room was silent just like yesterday.
"You guys can stay here tonight if you want too."
"What time is her surgery?" I asked.
"7 in the morning."
"I'll stay here. What about you guys?" I asked looking at them.
"Sure I will too." Brian said while the others nodded. I watched Matt go outside and pull his cigarettes from his pocket. I could really use on right now. I stood to my feet and went outside as the others continued to watch the game. I pulled out my pack and lit one of the cigarettes.
"She's going to be fine Matt. She's strong and one tough girl." I said blowing smoke as I talked.
"I know but what is she going to be like after treatment? She'll be missing a part of her body."
"Lots of people live their lives with only one breast. She'll be fine." I said taking another hit from my cigarette.
"What about when she finds a guy? What if the guy doesn't stay with her?"
"Then he is a damn fool." I said putting my cigarette out.
"She'll need someone who'll love her unconditionally."
Someone like me I said in my head.
"You're exactly right." I said placing my hand on Matt's shoulder. Matt put out his cigarette and went back into the house with me. I sat down with the guys watching the rest of the game before we all went to bed. I laid there thinking about what Matt had said. I'm going to ask her out on a date but I need Matt's approval first. I cuddled up into the pillow next to me and still being able to smell the scent of Raelyx on it. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
