Do Me The Honor
I stayed with Felicity and baby Autumn for the rest of the week while the others were helping Jimmy get everything set up in the nursery. I learned along with Felicity how to care for the small baby and she looked so happy to be a first time mother. I’ve heard where you get depression from having a baby but it doesn’t look like she’s going to be. I don’t think she will anyways with Jimmy. He could cheer up the saddest person in the world. A knock came to the hospital room door just as Felicity finished getting dressed.
“Come in!” I said handing Autumn back to my sister. The door opened and Brian came into the room.
“Hello ladies.”
“Hey Brian, did you come to pick us up?” Felicity asked as she cradled the tiny baby in her arms.
“Yes I did. Jimmy would have come but he wants to make sure everything is perfect for the baby.”
“How does the nursery look baby?” I asked wrapping my arms around his waist.
“I am sworn to secrecy.” Felicity and I both looked at him with pleading eyes but he shook his head.
“I’m sorry girls but if I told, Jimmy would have my ass.”
“I wouldn’t doubt that for a second.” I said laughing.
“Are you already signed out?”
“Yeah and I’m so ready to be home.” Felicity said as we left the room. We got into the elevator at the end of the hall and went down to the main entrance. We all left the building and I found my truck as Brian helped Felicity with the baby. I drove right behind Brian’s car as we made our way to Jimmy’s house. I’m so excited about seeing the nursery.
Knowing Jimmy it will look cool but you can never know what he had in mind. I pulled in behind Brian and cut the engine. I got out of my truck before they could even get out and I helped Felicity by getting Autumn out of the car seat and we went into the house.
“Jimmy!” Brian yelled and his beating footsteps came down the stairs and right to us.
“How’s my little girl?”
“She’s just fine and so am I.” Felicity said and he gently took his daughter into his arms. Jimmy is so gentle with the little baby. I smiled at Felicity.
“I want to see what you did to the nursery.”
“Follow me, my ladies.” Jimmy said bowing his head.
“Hey now Jimmy. This is my lady.” Brian pulled me against him as we went up the stairs. He stopped in front of the closed door to the nursery.
“I, Jimmy Sullivan and the master of all things awesome, am proud to present the room of our darling little child Autumn.” Jimmy opened the door and mine and Felicity’s eyes widened. She placed a hand on her mouth as she entered into the room. I was in awe as I looked around the room.
The walls were painted black and pink and little ducks were on the trims of the walls. An Oak rocking chair was placed in front of the window, the crib was placed against the wall and it had ducks on it as well. A changing table was placed on the adjacent wall next to the crib and a chest that was full of toys. This is absolutely amazing.
“Jimmy…I don’t know what to say.”
“You like it?” he asked smiling.
“I don’t like it…I love it.” Brian pulled me closer as we watched the happy couple place the baby into the crib. I looked up at Brian for only a second to see his face covered with joy and a little nervousness. Why would he be nervous?
“What are these?” Felicity asked as she touched something on the wall.
“That’s a baby monitor. There’s one in our room, the living room, and the kitchen.”
“I’ve never seen a baby monitor that’s built into the wall.” She said smiling.
“It’s brand new. A sales clerk recommended this when I was shopping for her. She said this has excellent sound and it will definitely wake either of us up for those 4 am feedings.”
“Jimmy Sullivan, I love you.” She said smiling.
“Felicity Sullivan, I love you too.”
“We’ll leave you 2 kids alone. I think I’m going to see Serenity home.” Brian said looking down at me.
“I’ll be over in a few days. I have some things to unpack and wash.”
“I’ll bring the baby over if I get bored.” Felicity said hugging me. I kissed her cheek and left the room with Brian. We left the house and Brian aggressively pinned me against my truck and kissed me.
“Well hello.” I said smiling.
“God you don’t know how much I missed you.”
“I missed you too Bri.” I said resting my arms on his shoulders.
“How about we get some dinner later?”
“Sure.” I said nodding.
“Good. I’ll pick you up at 7. Wear something sexy.”
“I’ll find something.” I said smiling. Brian kissed me one last time before opening the driver’s side door and I hopped it.
“I’ll see you at 7.” I said making my engine come alive.
“I’ll see you baby and have a safe drive home.”
“I will.” I said before backing out of the driveway and waving to Brian as I sped down the road. I pulled into my driveway minutes later and shut off the engine. I got out of my truck and went to the back but just leaned on the tailgate. Of all the death and destruction I seen over in Australia…if felt great to hold a new life in my hands.

I just got home and I started getting everything ready for our dinner date tonight. I pulled the ring box out of my pocket and opened it just staring at the beautiful ring I had bought. I know this will make Serenity happy and it will make me the happiest man alive. I looked down at my phone and I had 3 hours before I needed to pick her up. I placed the ring box on the bar and went up to my room. I opened my closet doors and looked around the huge closet for something formal for this special occasion. I took one of my tuxedos I had worn for awards and went into the bathroom to shower. I finished cleansing myself of the sweat I had accumulated when we were at the hospital and I dried off leaving the towel tied around my waist. I sprayed myself with Serenity’s favorite Axe scent before dressing myself in the tux.
I straightened my hair and put only a thin layer of eyeliner on. I left the bathroom and checked the time. I had a few minutes before I really needed to leave but I want to get her something beforehand. I went downstairs after putting on my shoes and slipped the ring box into my jacket pocket. I grabbed my keys and headed out the door to stop by a local flower shop to get her one of her favorite flowers.

After I had put my clothes on to dry, I went up to my room to find something that would be sexy for Brian but not too showy either. I looked all through the closet and couldn’t find anything that would catch his eye. Hell I hardly ever dressed up for anything. I left my room and went into my mother’s old room and looked through her things. We were the same size when she was alive so I hope I can find something. I pushed back clothing after clothing on the rack until I came to a dress that caught my eyes. The dress was black with a hint of red on the hem. The sleeves were short and looked so gorgeous. I took it out and went back to my room and took a nice refreshing shower before slipping the dress over my body. I looked at myself in my mirror and the gorgeous black dress came down a few inches below my knees and it hugged me in all the right places.
The neck line was a little low showing some cleavage but not too much. I went to my dresser and put on some eyeliner and just a little bit of eye shadow. My hair was pulled up into a ponytail. I slipped on a pair of my mother’s high heeled shoes and made sure I was perfect before going downstairs. I went into the kitchen and grabbed me a water bottle from the fridge and took a huge swig of it. Normally if I was nervous I would have taken a shot of Jack but I didn’t want to be reeking of alcohol. A knock to the door almost made me drop the bottle I had in my hands but I composed myself as I went to the door. I pulled open the door and Brian stood there with a bouquet of White Tiger Lilly’s. He looked so handsome in the tux and I couldn’t help but smile.
“Good Evening baby. These are for you.”
“Baby these are beautiful.” I said smiling as I smelled their intoxication aroma.
“Are you ready to go?”
“Yes but let me put these in some water first.” I said stepping aside so he could come in. I went into the kitchen with Brian right behind me. I grabbed a vase from under the sink and filled it with water before putting the flower stems inside.
“You look beautiful baby.”
“Thanks. You don’t look half bad yourself.” I said smiling. He gave me a tender kiss and looked me up and down.
“I didn’t know you had a sexy dress like this.”
“I don’t. It’s my mother’s dress.” I said placing the vase of flowers on the table.
“Shall we go?” I nodded and he linked his arm with mine and led me from the house. I locked up and he helped me into his car. He got in after me and backed out of my driveway. A comfortable silence fell over us as he drove. Brian really looks good and I’m just so nervous about this dinner date. I don’t know why. I mean we’ve been around each other for years. He pulled up to an Italian restaurant and again he helped me out of the car. We went inside and told the man standing at the podium that he had a reservation.
I looked at him funny but he just smiled as the well-dressed man led us to a private section of the restaurant. Brian pulled out my chair and I smiled at him as I sat down. He went over to his and sat down in front of me.
“What are we drinking this evening?” the man asked as he placed menus down in front of us.
“A bottle of your best champagne please.”
“Yes sir.” The man said smiling before leaving us to get the Champagne. I opened my menu and looked it over. Everything looks so appetizing and I just didn’t know what to get.
“What are you getting baby?”
“I don’t really know. Everything looks so good.” I said looking at him over the large menu.
“Can I suggest something?”
“Sure.” I said nodding.
“The spaghetti is excellent. I mean that’s what I’m getting.”
“Then I’ll have what you’re having.” I said closing the menu. The waiter came back to the table and poured us each a glass of the bubbling liquid. He took our orders and left again. We sat and talked until our food got to us and we ate in a comfortable silence. We occasionally made light conversation about Felicity and Autumn.
After we finished eating, Brian paid the bill and we walked down to the beach under the light of the moon. We got to a little bench and sat down. His arm draped behind me and rubbed my side as we looked over the ocean glistening in the moon. This night couldn’t get any better.
“Serenity there’s something I need to ask you.”
“What is it?” I asked sitting back up. I watched as he stood to his feet and got down on one knee in front of me. He took my hand and smiled the biggest smile I’ve ever seen.
“Baby…Ever since I first met you, it’s been like I can be who I am around a person without putting on an act. You’ve been there for me and my son. Giving us protection against the dead and feeding us when we had no food. You’ve been so patient with me since I lost my wife and…and I’m eternally grateful. You’re the best person I’ve ever met in this life and I want to spend the rest of my life with you in it. Serenity Druthers, would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?” I watched as Brian pulled out a ring box from his jacket pocket. He opened the small box and the most gorgeous ring I’ve ever seen was placed so delicately inside.
“Yes…Oh yes Brian I will.” I said smiling and letting a tear fall from my eyes. He took the ring from the box and slipped it onto my finger before pulling me to my feet and giving me the most passionate kiss I’ve ever had. To say that this is the happiest moment in the world for me…would be completely undermining. This moment suppresses all other great moments that’s happened in my years of life.
