Meeting The Respected General
It was such a relief to know that the cure my father formulated worked and so many people were saved. My father was a great man even though he took his secrets to the grave but at least he left Felicity and me something we could be proud of him for. Now we won't have to live in fear or do any night watches for Strays and Packs but we'll still have to hunt before the land can be grown with food again. I sat at a desk in someone's private office and read over my Will. The reasons behind writing it were no long relevant and I tore it up before throwing into the bagless trashcan.
"What was that?" I look over at Brian as he leaned against the doorway.
"My Will. I decided that I didn't need it anymore." I said smiling as I turned the chair towards him. I watched as Brian closed and locked the door and came across the room and stood in front of me. I gave him a questioning look but he said nothing. He took my hand and pulled me up from the chair and sat down and pulled me onto his lap.
"What are you doing?" I asked smiling.
"I just wanted to be alone with my girl." He pulled me into his chest and kissed me with so much passion. The butterflies circled furiously around in the pit of my stomach as his tongue rubbed against my bottom lip just begging to enter and explore the regions of my mouth. I gladly obliged him and our tongues intertwined as our passionate kiss heated. My arms casually draped over his shoulders and his hands explored my body before resting on my ass. We pulled away to breathe as we just stared into each other's eyes. His chocolate colored eyes held so much love and passion that mesmerized me everytime I would glance at them. I felt my cheeks flush with red and I turned my head away. He gently cupped my face with one hand and smiled at me.
"You're so cute when you blush." he said and I know I got a deeper shade of red. His slight chuckle echoed through my ears and I just couldn't be any happier than I am right now. I leaned close to his face again and kissed his lips ever so gently. With all the death and destruction I've seen and had experienced, everything just seemed to fall back into normality. I was happy again and I always want the feeling to stay that way. I never want to feel the depression or the saddest of the past.
I heard the door knob turn and then a round of knocks.
"You two better not be fucking each other's brains out on the desk in there!" I laughed at the words of my crazy ass sister.
"We're not doing anything Felicity. What is it?" I asked still sitting comfortably in Brian's lap.
"I just got off the CB with General Halverson. He said he'll be here in a little over 12 hours."
"Why didn't you just say tomorrow?" I said laughing.
"I don't have a clue. Anyways you two getyour asses out here so we can eat. You guys can cuddle...or whatever in a few minutes."
"We'll be there in a minute." I said getting off of Brian's lap but he pulled me right back down.
"You said in a few minutes."
"To Felicity a few minutes means now." I said and he helped me to my feet and we walked out of the office. Our noses followed the scent of food right to the Cafeteria where the members of the National Guard would have eaten. Brian and I grabbed plates and filled them with food before joining the others at the table. I felt Brian's hand grasp mine in a loving manner and Felicity, Uncle Lucas, and Aunt Maxie all looked at me with aw expressions. I shook my head at them and continued to eat.
Just like every after dinner ritual, I helped Felicity clean up the dishes and stack them onto the counter. We all pitched in and sort of picked up around the Armory so it would look decent enough for the General's arrival tomorrow. I still wonder what it is that he's going to be surprising all 30 of us with. Who knows but I know the honor will actually go to my father. He deserves all the credit for spending countless hours just to save the human race from becoming dead and rotting flesh walking the face of the Country. He is the real hero of America.
While we were picking up around the place, I found some Army cots stacked in a rather large closet along with some sheets, blankets, and pillows. Everyone helped me set them up and put the sheets, blankets, and pillows on each one just in case the people that would be coming along with the General would stay the night before heading out to find more people. I took a cot the office I was in with Brian earlier and fixed it up to my liking and putting my own blanket and pillow on it before going over to the desk and sitting down to clean my guns. I looked up as Brian come in with his cot, blanket, and pillow and set it up right next to mine. I smiled as he came over to me and took the gun from my hand and placed it on the desk.
"Come on to bed. I know you're tired."
"I'm exhausted but I guess I'm just not used to going to sleep without some kind of watch detail." I said as he pulled me out of the chair.
"I know but it's all over now. There's no need to worry about Strays or Packs lurking in the night." I smiled and we went over to the cots and laid down. He pulled me close and I now see why he placed his together with mine. I smiled as he pulled the 2 blankets over us and quietly hummed in my ear. I felt so relaxed as his gentle humming made my eyes close.

I woke to the smell of food and I looked over my shoulder at Brian who was sleeping so peacefully even though he was snoring with his mouth slightly ajar. I couldn't help but giggle quietly and slip out of the cots and left the room so he could keep sleeping. I followed my nose back to the cafeteria where Felicity was cooking. I gave her hand in the kitchen and placed the food on the table just as everyone came in. We all ate in a comfortable silence and Brian's left hand rested on my thigh. I loved the man with all my heart and there's nothing in this world I would trade. Breakfast was over and done with in a matter of minutes along with the dishes. I turned on the CB and picked up the CB mic.
"General Halverson? Come in General Halverson." I said into the mic.
"Good moring Serenity. How is the group?"
"We're all great and just waiting for your arrival."
"We'll be there in a little under 5 minutes."
"We will be anxiously waiting for you General." I said and I went to the group and told them about the General's arrival. I grabbed the Machine Gun plus my sidearms from the office before going outside with Brian to wait for the General. It's kind of exciting to be meeting a leader of the United States Army and certainly a privilege that most people don't get to experience. The sound of roaring engines could be heard in the distance and I looked down the road. A convoy of Troop trucks sped towards the Armory and pulled into the parking lot. I watched as a man dressed in a Class A uniform stepped out of the passenger side of one of the trucks. His medals shined in the sun as he looked over at us. I looked at Brian and we walked over to the General.
"General Halverson I presume?" I asked extending a hand for him to shake.
"Yes ma'am and you must be Serenity."
"That I am sir. This is Brian Haner Jr." I said shaking the hand of the decorated General.
"It's a pleasure to meet you General."
"Thank you sir." General Halverson said as he shook Brian's hand.
"Shall we head on inside?"
"Yes just one minute. Major Clark?" he said and a young man who looked to be the same age as Brian approached the General.
"Yes General?"
"Have everyone bring there things in along with the cots." General said in a commanding kind of way.
"Excuse me General but we've already set up enough cots for everyone n the Cafeteria."
"Is that so?" he asked with a smile and I nodded.
"Alright. Major Clark just have everyone grab their things and report to the Cafeteria."
"Yes sir." Major Clark said before giving the General a salute. Halverson returned the gesture and Clark went on with his orders as we led the General into the building. Brian and I gave the General a short tour before going into the Cafeteria where everyone was sitting around cleaning weapons and making sure the cots were set up right.
"This is where everyone will be staying General." I said as Felicity came over to me.
"General Halverson, I'd like you to meet my sister Felicity."
"It's a pleasure to meet you Felicity." He said shaking her hand.
"The pleasure is all mine General."
"Why thank you ma'am. Serenity do you have enough food to feed all of us?" He asked turning to face me.
"I'm afraid not General. I haven't had time to get me hunting crew together to go out and hunt."
"I'll have one of my men bring in the bounty of food we have." he said and just then one of his men came into the Cafeteria.
"Corporal, come here a minute!" The young man came over to us and saluted the General.
"Yes General?" he asked standing at attention.
"Get some people to bring those coolers filled with meat and Felicity here will get together with the cooks we have and prepare us a fine meal."
"Yes sir." the Corporal saluted his higher ranking officer and was dismissed.
"Can I introduce you to the group General?" I asked and he nodded. We walked around and I introduced Halverson to everyone. My Uncle Lucas and Dante conversed with the General about their military services as the rest of us helped the refugees sort out their things while the food was being prepared. Seeing all these people who were once walking this earth as the unconscious dead is really amazing to see that the once places where they had rotting and decaying flesh was replaced in their original form like nothing like ever happened. The amazing results of a cure is so unfathomable and just...well just damn life saving.
