Chasing A Dream

Chapter 1

The flight to the States didn’t take long, or well actually it did but it didn’t feel long. The wait and chance of flight, they had to do in Washington DC also went by pretty fast and soon they were in California, or more precisely, Los Angeles Airport a.k.a LAX.

Maiken were beyond exited to be there finally, but to meet her host family as well. She knew that some of the family members had the same taste in music as she had, but who it was, she didn’t know.

She happily yet nervously walked with the others out of the plane, and towards the place where they should pick up their baggage. And with shaking hands Maiken found her suitcase, took it off the tape and went to stand by to the side.

“Guys listen up; I’m going to stay with you until your family picks you up, okay?” Peter said, making all of young people nod in ‘agreement’ before they went towards the waiting area to find their families.

Maiken and Marie waited patiently next to each other; both of the girls were extremely nervous but tried their best to shrug it off, which didn’t seem to happen that well. Soon Maiken could hear someone said her name out loud in the hall, making her turn head to her left to see who it was and she noticed some strangers, so in reflect she just turned back around to talk to Marie, until she remembered that it probably was her host-family and with that she quickly turned back around to face the people again.

Maiken threw the family a small smile before she walked towards them, and as she got closer she noticed the sign a little girl held in her hands, it said Maiken Salt, Denmark on it. When Maiken approached the family, they greeted her with a big smile and a hug, which she accepted because she thought it would be a good start for the next ten months she would be spending with them.

“Hey dear, you must be Maiken? I’m sorry if I’m pronouncing it wrong” a middle aged woman told her with a smile on her face, making Maiken nod with a smile on her face.

“Okay well, we are the Haner family who you’ll, hopefully, be spending the next ten months with, and I know that I’m talking for all of us, when I say that we can’t wait to have you to live with us… But enough with that for now, how was the trip dear?” the woman smiled.

“It was good, thank you. I definitely can’t wait to live with you for almost a year either” Maiken smiled.

“Oh I’m so sorry; I forgot to introduce us to you. I’m Suzy, and this is my daughter McKenna and my husband Brian” Suzy said and pointed to the two people who were standing in front and next to her.

“Hello my dear” Brian said with a smile on his face and pulled her into another hug, which she returned.

“Hello” the girl McKenna smiled and gave Maiken a hug as well, which made Maiken smile.

The family and Maiken talk for a few minutes, before Peter came to them to see if everything was fine, and to see if Maiken was ready to go with the family. Luckily for everyone, Maiken was ready and soon she was about to go to Marie and say goodbye to her.

Just as Maiken were near Marie, she noticed that Maries “family” had arrived as well, which made Maiken smile even though she continued walking towards Marie, and stopped just as she was next to the other girl.

“Hey you” Maiken smiled before throwing the family a small and shy smile.

“Hey, what’s up? how’s your family so far?” Marie asked with a bright smile on her face.

“I just wanted to say bye, hence I’m leaving now. And my family is really amazing so far” Maiken said with a smile on her face.

“Oh okay, by the way, this is the Mashall family, the family I’m gonna stay with, and guys this is my new friend Maiken” Marie smiled to Maiken and introduced her to the family, who sweetly greeted Maiken with a smile and a hand-shake.

“Hello Maiken. So who are you staying with?” the middle-aged woman in the family asked with a smile on her face.

“I’m staying with Mr. and Mrs. Haner” Maiken smiled, and it all turned out that the Haner family and the Mashall family was really close friends, and actually they were almost neighbors as well.

Maiken said her goodbye to the family and turned to Marie and gave her a tight hug, and told her that they would see each other really soon, and that they would have to meet up before the school was starting again.
Marie agreed with Maiken, and soon Maiken were back with her family and ready to go.
