The Wild Ride

Eleven.

Day by day, Peyton and Zack’s relationship went back to normal. They talked about Peyton’s miscarriage, and their hopes of trying again soon. They spent time as a family, and had date night as often as they could. It was the day of their anniversary, and Zack had sent Peyton to the spa and salon for a day of pampering while he transformed their house. He had sent Lincoln to his parents’ house for the night, and spent the entire day putting hundreds of lights around the outdoor living room, added more pillows to the furniture, spread rose petals everywhere, and ordered a ton of flowers for his wife, which were scattered throughout the area outside. He cooked her favorite meal, which happened to be a lasagna recipe that his mother had given her, and he had decorated the table with candles and a huge bouquet of burgundy Dahlias. Once he got the lasagna in the oven, he rushed upstairs to take a shower and dressed in a pair of black slacks and a nice button down shirt, rolling the sleeves to his elbows. Once he had decided his hair was good enough, he went back downstairs to pull the lasagna out of the oven and grabbed Peyton’s gifts out of the closet in his office. He had went all out for her this year, it had been a rough few months for them and he wanted to make sure he spoiled his wife. As he was sitting the gifts on the coffee table, his phone started ringing. “You better not be calling me to tell me to come to the studio.” He grumbled, hearing Brian laugh on the other end. “I’m not telling you to come to the studio, I’m calling to check in, see if you need any help.” “I’m good, but for some reason I’m nervous as fuck. I want tonight to be perfect for her, and I feel like I’m going to do something to fuck it up.” Zack sighed, sitting down in one of the chairs in their outdoor living room. It was Peyton’s favorite area of their house, so he wanted to make sure it was where most of their time was spent tonight. “Dude. Stop being weird. You guys have celebrated anniversaries before, she’s going to love it. I’m sure” Brian said encouragingly. “Besides, she knows you’re a dick so she probably expects you to fuck it up somehow.” He joked, making Zack throw his head back in laughter. “You’re an asshole, Brian.” “Yeah, I know. But you love me. I’ll let you know, I know you’ve got shit to do. Good luck man.” The two men said their goodbyes before Zack disconnected the call and slipped his phone into his pocket. As he was walking back into the house, the oven timer started going off, signaling the lasagna was done. “Right on time.” He mumbled, as his phone vibrated in his pocket. ‘Headed home, put on something nice.’ Peyton said in a text. Zack smiled to himself and turned on some music before putting the finishing touches on everything.

After her day at the spa, Peyton headed to the salon to get her hair and makeup done. It was one of the rare occasions that she didn’t want to do it herself, so she called her friend and set an appointment. After her dark hair was curled and her makeup was flawless, she decided to head to the mall to find a dress to wear. She had made reservations at one of their favorite restaurants, and had a pile of gifts for Zack hidden in her babe cave.She had come across a dark purple bodycon dress that went down to mid thigh. She tried it on and discovered that it was a perfect fit. Peyton smiled to herself in the mirror, happy that she brought a pair of gray heels to wear with it, before paying for her dress and heading to her car to meet her husband at home.

When Peyton walked in the door, she was surprised at what she saw. The lights in the kitchen and dining room were dimmed, and there were candles lit everywhere. "Zack? I'm home." She called out, looking around. As she walked further into the kitchen, her husband walked through the back door. "Hey gorgeous. Happy anniversary." He smiled, pulling her into his arms and kissing her softly. "Babe, what is all this?" The brunette asked, motioning to the candles. "This is just the beginning." Zack said, grabbing his wife by the hand and leading her outside. Peyton trailed behind her husband confused, wondering what tricks he had up his sleeve. She stopped at the doorway before turning around to get her purse. "Where are you going?" The green eyed man chuckled. "I have to cancel our reservation, if I can find my phone." She replied nervously, digging through her bag. Zack grabbed his wife's arm and tilted her head so that her eyes would meet his. "Relax babe. I've already cancelled them." "How did you even know where we were going?" Peyton asked, watching as a smirk formed on Zack's face. "Johnny." She huffed as her husband laughed loudly. "Word of the wise, if you're planning on surprising me, don't tell the gnome." He joked, kissing the side of her head. "Did I tell you how beautiful you look tonight? Because you look fucking amazing." The guitarist said, holding her hand above her head and making her spin around as she blushed. "This dress is killer. Is it easy to get out of?" Peyton laughed softly and pulled her husband close, "I guess there's only one way to find out." She whispered seductively. "But first, I'm going to need some of that lasagna I smell." She said, pulling away from Zack, who was standing there with his mouth open, and headed for the back door.
Peyton was not expecting what she saw when she walked out on the patio. There were flowers and candles everywhere, and a pile of gifts on the coffee table in the living area. "Zachary James." She chastised when she felt her husband walk up behind her. "You didn't have to do all of this." "I know I didn't. I wanted to. You deserve all of this and more." He stated, kissing her neck and leading her to the sofa, where she sat for the next ten minutes opening gifts. When she had gotten through most of the gifts, there was one envelope-shaped package on the table. "Okay, last one." He sighed, keeping his eyes on the envelope in his wife's hands. He watched her face closely as she looked at the paper inside, eyes going from curious to shock. "Zack. You bought my dream house?" She whispered, looking up from the paper with tears in her eyes. Zack could only nod, his wife's reaction to the house being more than he ever hoped for. "Babe this is too much." Peyton said quietly, stuffing the paper back into the envelope. "What about the house we have now?" "Peyton, don't worry about all of that. It's taken care of. And it's not too much. Baby, you have been through so much lately, with losing the baby and me being a dick and Linc going into the terrible twos, which are way more terrible than I had imagined." He chuckled to himself before grabbing his wife's hands. "This is our fresh start, Pey. Five bedrooms and three bathrooms with a professional kitchen and a huge bath tub and back yard. Like you've always wanted. We need this, Peyton. We deserve this." Peyton nodded as she wiped the tears that had spilled over, "And it's close to Matt and Brian. Now we've just got to talk Johnny into moving over there." She chuckled, hearing her husband groan. "Brian is going to come over every fucking day and teach Linc bad shit. I know it." "Babe. He does that anyway." Peyton said with a laugh. "Oh shit, I almost forgot! Stay here, I'll be right back." She exclaimed, rushing into the house to grab Zack's gifts. The green eyed man laughed to himself and leaned back into the couch, taking a sip of the beer that he had opened earlier. He had bought that house a few weeks ago, and had hired painters to make sure everything was perfect before they moved in. Brian had been in on it, but was sworn to secrecy. "If you tell Peyton I bought this house I'll cut your dick off." Zack threatened the dark haired man, who threw his hands up in defense. "I won't fucking tell her! I promise!" Zack was brought out of his thoughts when he heard Peyton's heels clicking on the tile, "Okay baby, here you go!" She said, laying an armload of gifts on the table. "Jesus Pey. Where did you hide all this shit?" He asked in awe. "I have my ways. You don't need to know them." His wife joked before handing him a gift.
After Zack had opened his gifts, which consisted of a lot of clothes, shoes, and a really expensive bottle of whiskey, they sat down to eat. Their conversation was light through dinner, with them talking about old memories and things that Lincoln had been doing lately, and pretty soon all the wine was drank and dessert was done. "This has been an amazing night, Zee. I don't think I'll ever forget it." Peyton said as they were lounging on the hammock by the pool. "Trust me, the night is far from over." Zack said, wiggling his eyebrows. "You are ridiculous." His wife laughed, smacking his chest. "When is moving day?" "Would you kill me if I said next weekend?" He asked. "You could have given me a little bit more notice, but no. I won't kill you this time." She shrugged, "But there is going to be a lot to do." "Oh come on, Pey. I hired movers, they'll do all that shit for you." Zack shrugged. "All you'll have to do is tell them where shit goes and you're pretty good at bossing people around so I think you'll be fine." He joked, earning himself a dirty look from his wife. "If they break my shit there will be hell to pay." She said sternly, snuggling into her husband's chest. "Oh that I have no doubt." He laughed. They laid there quietly for a few minutes, before Zack's hands started roaming his wife's body. "You looking for something?" She asked seductively. "Where's the fucking zip- ah, there it is." Zack said softly, tugging the zipper down her back slowly. "Let's find out how easy this dress is to get out of." He whispered softly before pulling his wife in for a kiss that set her on fire.

@overneaththepathofmisery
She has been a smoker for years, but she is determined to beat it. I however, am struggling. I’m on the fence about adding it into one of my stories, writing is how I kind of deal with the shit in my life. I’m just kind of holding it all in at the moment.
