Second Heartbeat

I walked into Johnny’s Bar at 6:30pm. I started working here about a year ago and I have to admit apart from some of the typical drunks it’s a really good job, it pays well I’m saving so that I can go travel all over the world and see as many bands as I like, but unfortunately I’ve never been able to see my favourite band, Avenged Sevenfold, I’ve only ever hear their songs, simply because who cares what a band looks like. It’s all about their music for me.

“Brooklyn! Table 7 is waiting for their drinks,” Luke, my boss yells over the music that is playing.

I simply nod and finish making their drinks, which is 5 beers and a Jack Daniel’s and coke. Once I reached the table I almost dropped the try when I realized that it was the guys and girl that I met earlier.

The guy with dimples smiled, “hey Brooklyn.” Oh fuck what’s his name again?

I smiled as I put the drinks down, “hey. Can I get you anything else?”

The girl looked over and mumbled something, what she said I didn’t quiet hear but the guy with snakebites and a septum ring did.

“Come On babe lets go dance,” before she even has the chance he pulled her away from their table and towards the dance floor.

“Again I’m sorry about Kodi. She’s temperamental? Yeah that’s the word,” the brown eyed guy smirked looking behind me. Wow I really need to remember names better.

“She’s okay, don’t worry about it," I smiled and walked back to the bar.

“What was that about?” I looked over at Luke and shrugged, “You do know who they are right?”

“I met them earlier today.” I looked at the drink I was making for a customer.

“Can I get a Jack and coke,” I glanced over and saw the girl, Kodi was her name I think? Yes!

“Yep one second please,” I handed the other customer their drink before walking to the other end of the bar, “ice?”

“Please. So you met my brother,” she looked at me then back at the table.

“One of them is your brother? I had no idea, I’m Brooklyn,” I stretched my hand out for her. She looked at it and nodded.

“I know who you are,” with that she handed me the money for the drink and left.

I didn’t hear from her or any of the guys for the rest of the night. At around 11pm I saw them leave. I wasn’t due to finish until 12am. I would then have to walk home due to the fact that my damn car broke last week and it’s still in the shop getting fixed.

“Night Luke,” I waved as I walked out of the bar and started making my way home. I was a block away when I felt someone watching me. Looking around I didn’t see anything, so I carried on walking.

Kodi’s POV


I have no idea why my damn brother is so fascinated with this girl. She isn’t anything special. After the guys had left I hung around until she finished work. As per my brothers request I made sure that she got home safely.

She was a block away when she stopped and looked around, luckily I was hiding in the shadows. When she carried on I stayed put sensing something else around.

“Haner” I looked around to see Michael a vampire that lives in San Diego.

I growled at him, "What are you doing here?”

He laughed, “Just checking out that girl that got away from Bailey. He’d seen her in San Diego last year and tracked her back here”

“Stay away from her!” I snarled at him before lunging at him. Only to be thrown against the pavement.

“Silly little Bitch. You never learn do you,” with that he disappeared into the night.

I stood up and shook myself off and looked around before I followed the strawberry and vanilla scent that has my damn brother intoxicated as of today. He always falls for the damn humans. I stopped opposite her apartment block and sat down thinking about the last time my brother fell in love. She wasn’t right for him but I was 17 at the time why would he listen to me? She’s the reason we started these petty little scuffles that we have daily now. I want my brother back but I doubt that will happen. Five years later and if it wasn’t for Zack I’d have ditched this place as soon as I was 18 years old. He doesn’t want his kid sister hanging around with his friends. But unfortunately for him, me and Zack happened to imprint on each other. No matter where we are we feel what the other one is feeling. So far no one else in the pack has a mate and I want to be selfish and hope that they stay alone forever because I don’t want to see them get hurt by a damn girl. They deserve so much in this world, they work hard on the band and each one has protected me so much. It’s now my turn to protect them, even if that means acting like a spoilt bitch to every female that comes near them.

I looked back at the building before running off through the park back towards the house. As I got closer I could hear Brian and Matt talking. I stopped and listened to them.

“Dammit can’t she just be nice to her! Brooklyn hasn’t done anything to anyone here. What is my damn sister’s problem? I wish she would grow up. She certainly better stop acting like a spoilt little bitch.”

“Brian come on man you don’t mean that. Kodi loves you, you’re her big brother, we’re all family here man. She’ll come around, she’s been the only female here for a while remember Jane? She fucked you over man. Kodi tried to warn us all but we didn’t listen. You both fell out over that whore. Do you want to lose her?” Matt stood up from where he sat on the steps to the house, “Just give her time.”

With that Brian went inside and I’m guessing he went to the studio in the basement. I looked at Matt and walked over to him and nudged his hand.

“You heard that didn’t you?” he whispered as he rubbed my head. I simply nodded and went inside and up to mine and Zack’s room. Where I found him laid on the bed reading. I jumped up and curled up next to him. I was too lazy to change right now after running into Michael.
“Hey,” I looked up at Zack and laid my head on his chest and sighed.
