Chapter 4 Fancy meeting you here


I had reached my limit. I couldn’t run anymore, so I collapsed in the hot sand with a sigh.
Dammit Dean, why did you have to show up out of nowhere like that? I heard footsteps around me so I rolled over onto my back to find Brian standing above me.

“Jesus Christ did you have to run halfway across California?” He asked as he extended his hand to help me up.

“Well maybe if you didn’t drink so much you could keep up with me.” I grinned as I pulled myself up.

“Says the girl who was drinking at noon.” He grinned back at me, "He must have done something really shitty to deserve a punch like that."

I looked out at the ocean and crossed my arms, "Yeah," I paused for a minute. "He lied to me for three years and I found out on my birthday. I don't really want to talk about that though."

"I understand." He said and handed me my bottle of Jack back. "I think you need this more than I do."

"Thanks." I took a drink out of the bottle. "I'm sorry for ruining your day with my drama."

He laughed, "You didn't ruin my day. That punch was awesome."

"Still I feel like I should make it up to you."

"Well, we could go out for drinks or something?" He questioned.

"I started off the day with drinking why not end it with drinking," I laughed.

We made plans to meet up at a local bar when his friends showed up.

"Brian, What the fuck man?" Jimmy yelled. "We walk away for five minutes and come back and you're chasing her down the beach."

"Can one of you explain what happened?" Matt asked.

Brian gave them a quick run down of what happened. Jimmy was the next to speak.

"He sounds like a fucking asshole. Do we need to go back and beat the shit out of him?"

I tried to hide my smile, "No it's all right. I think he will leave me alone now."

Jimmy came up and gave me a hug, "Well I like you kid, we should go out for drinks some time."

I hestitated before saying, "Actually Brian invited me out for drinks tonight."

"Aw. Well we can all go out another time." He pouted.
