Big Not So Bad Wolf

Zacky's POV:

I patrol the local area. There aren't any vampires around now which makes me annoyed. After reading that letter all I wanted was to take my frustrations out on a disgusting blood sucker.

I could join the guys but I don't want to end up taking it out on them. I wonder around aimlessly for a little while. My feet set a determined course.

I'm thinking about the letter. I'm turning their offer around my head. I know if I did take it that I'd have to abide by their demand. All I wanted to focus on was getting justice for Jimmy.

My paws stop. A house sits in front of me. Walking around I head back into the woods to go to the back of the house.

Of all places I could go I came here. The mystery of why I'd never know. What I did know is of all the places in California I had chosen to come to her house.

I'm lost again in my thoughts of Jimmy. He would have told them to shove their condition up their asses then take the offer. I can hear him now; Zacky just be you. Nothing is better than that.

Jimmy always had a way of cheering you up. He'd stop at nothing to see you smile when you were blue. I'll never forget our first change.

Flash Back

Jimmy had been my next door neighbor since I was born. My parents were out of town for the weekend. That meant I got to stay at the Sullivan's house. Jimmy's parents might as well have been my second parents for as much time as I spent there.

I rush in to his bedroom. I shove my hand into his face.

"Dude you're really hairy!" He yells laughing loudly.

"It's not funny. I don't know how to make it go away." I murmur.

Barbara, Jimmy's mom walks in. She sits down on Jimmy's bed. Her face is totally serious.

"Just relax. Everything is okay. You're going through your first shift." She calmly explains.

"How the hell do you expect me to relax? My hand is covered in fur. Every part of my body aches. There's no being calm about that!" I bellow.

As I start trembling she pulls me into her arms. She embraces me in a bear hug. Her face turns to Jimmy.

"Stay here." She orders leading me out of his room.

I awoke some time later. Everything around me seemed brighter. The sound of people talking seemed to be blaring in my ear.

My entire body felt different. Turning my head I see a tail off my back end. What the fuck? Why the hell do I have a tail?

It takes a few minutes for me to realize I've gone through my first shift.

"Whoa." I hear loudly in my head.

My head whips around. Where did that come from? I didn't say that. So who said that?

"Dude we're wolves!" Yells Jimmy's excited voice.

"I can hear you." I tell him with my mind.

"That's so awesome! Let's go run." Jimmy says.

"You boys be careful." Barbara hollers as we take off.

We find our way to the park. Jimmy sees a goose. His tail swishes happily.

"Come here stallion duck." He runs after it.

"Look he isn't afraid at all." His joy is palpable even as the duck flies to the other side of the pound.

I don't have it in me to tell him it's actually a duck. There's no need to break his heart. He wouldn't care any ways. All that mattered to Jimmy was that he got a new friend.

I'm about to leave when some swanky car pulls into the driveway. I race to the side of the house. Some douchebag in a suit steps out of it.

He climbs the front steps. The dogs immediately start going nuts growling from the other side of the door. This catches my attention. After adjusting his jacket he rings the doorbell.

I take a sniff of the air. That is no human standing on the porch. My first instinct is to rush up there and get her out of harm's way. My paws move closer to the danger.

I pause realizing Allie isn't my mate. It's not my responsibility to protect her. Why was my first thought her safety then?
