Big Not So Bad Wolf

Chapter Fifteen

Allie's POV:

Our second date had gone so well I agreed to a third date. Elijah calls me a fees date later to set it. We agree to early Friday evening.

I couldn't believe when he told me where we'd be going for our third date. He was taking me to the Griffith Observatory.

Friday comes fast. The clock jets to 3 pm. Of course I'm grateful. Elijah calls telling me he'll be at my house in fifteen minutes.

He's right on time. Not that I expected any less. Elijah was a stickler for being on time.

The ride into Los Angeles seemed to fly by. The Observatory was in my sights after what seemed like a few minutes. I could barely contain my excitement. It was going be to a night.

I knew the six sections of the Observatory like the back of my hand. When I was a kid my parents used to bring me here all the time.

They broke down like this. The Wilder Hall of the Eye, the Ahmanson Hall of the Sky, the W.M. Keck Foundation Central Rotunda, the Cosmic Connection, the Gunther Depths of Space Hall, and the Edge of Space Mezzanine. I make my way to Ahmanson Hall of the Sky in the west wing.

Grabbing Elijah's hand I take him through my favorite hall. It tells all about objects that are normally found in the sky, like the Sun and Moon. In the middle of this section is a large solar telescope projecting images of the Sun, using a series of mirrors called coelostats.

"Isn't this amazing?" I yell happily.

Exhibits here include a periodic table of the elements which is kind of boring. A Hertzsprung-Russell diagram that is alright. Several alcoves showing exhibits about day and night, the paths of the Sun and stars, the seasons, the phases of the Moon, tides, and eclipses.

"The Moon is so beautiful." I comment.

"Not as beautiful as you." Elijah answers.

I swat my hand in the air. I'm sure I was smiling from ear to ear though. I had always loved the Moon and stars so I make sure we spend extra time in this wing.

The final parts of the exhibits is a Foucault pendulum that demonstrates the Earth's rotation and a small exhibit dedicated to Griffith J. Griffith after who the observatory is named. The pendulum was actually really cool. It would never compare to the Moon or stars but it was still neat.

"We're going here strictly for the globe of the Moon." I inform Elijah.

"Lead the way." He says motioning me to go first.

After a quick detour to The Edge of Space Mezzanine. It's on to The Wilder Hall of the Eye in the east wing of the main level.

This hall focuses on astronomical tools like telescopes plus how they evolved over time so people can see further into space. It  features a Tesla coil which I had always found kind of cool. Also a "Camera Obscura", that uses mirrors and lenses to focus light onto a flat surface. This was always fun to see.

A man walks over to Elijah. Elijah walks over telling me he'll be right back. The man hands Elijah a box.
