The Way Your Heart Sounds

025

The next evening after Lauren got out of work, she headed to her old house to start packing things up. Jimmy and Matt were going to meet her there with Matt’s truck, which would help with some of the furniture and the bigger things Lauren wouldn’t be able to fit in her car. When she pulled up to the house, Jimmy and Matt were already there, standing on her front lawn. As soon as she got out of the car, Jimmy attacked her with hugs and kisses. Matt smiled and rolled his eyes.

“Come on lovebirds, we got a lot of packing to do,” he said. Lauren smiled and threw him her keys so he could open the front door.

Once they were inside, they had to come up with a plan of action. Lauren had the boys move the furniture that she wasn’t keeping outside. She decided to sell certain things, like her TV and her sofa that she knew she could get money for. All the other furniture was going to be dropped off at a charity store. While the guys were busy doing that, she took boxes into her bedroom and bathroom, packing away anything she was going to keep.

“I don’t know if that bed is going to fit in my truck,” Matt said from the doorway.

“You think I should have hired a moving company?” Lauren smiled, as she was packing away the rest of her wardrobe.

“Well, let’s take the frame apart. We can make the mattress fit,” Jimmy shrugged.

“I think there’s a toolkit in my car. I’ll be back. If you guys want to have one last romp on that bed, please put a sock on the doorknob or something,” Matt said casually before he left.
Jimmy smirked. He walked over to where Lauren was sitting on the floor and plopped down next to her.

“Need help?” he asked. She handed him a box and told him he could clean out her night stand. He nodded and opened the drawer. As she was closing the last box of clothes, she could hear him giggling. When she realized what she had asked him to do, she immediately blushed and turned around.

“Is this what I think it is?” he asked, a devilish smirk on his face as he held the small pink vibrator in his hand. Lauren jumped off the floor and attempted to steal it back, but Jimmy held it over her head out of reach.

Matt appeared in the doorway, saw what Jimmy was holding in his hand, and immediately turned on his heel to leave.

“Didn’t I say to put a sock on the door?” he hollered from down the hallway. Lauren’s face was bright red with embarrassment. She flopped down onto the bed and covered her face with a pillow. Jimmy’s hysterical laughter finally came to a stop, and he pulled the pillow away from Lauren’s face before leaning down so he was hovering over her.

“You won’t need this anymore,” he mumbled. He planted a kiss on her lips before tossing the embarrassing item into the nearby trash can.

Lauren called Matt’s name and told him it was safe to come back inside. He appeared once again in the doorway, with one hand covering his eyes as a precaution.

“We weren’t doing anything, silly,” Jimmy said, pulling on Matt’s arm.

“That’s not what it looked like to me,” Matt mumbled, placing his toolkit on the floor next to the bed. “This’ll take a few minutes, you might want to keep packing.”

Since the bedroom was pretty much done aside from the furniture, Lauren cleaned out the bathroom while Jimmy worked on the hallway closet. Matt called out to them when he was done, and Jimmy went to help him move the pieces of the bed outside. As they were doing that, Lauren moved into the kitchen and packed up all of her cooking utensils, and whatever food would survive the trip back to Jimmy’s house, which wasn’t much.

The boys came back inside. It was starting to get pretty late, so they had to finish up what they could today.

“It’s going to take me a few trips for the furniture,” Matt said.

“You take Jimmy to help you with the lifting. I’ll start loading boxes in my car and driving them over to his house,” she said.

“Alrighty, off we go, Jimbo,” Matt said. Jimmy gave Lauren a kiss and told her to be careful before he and Matt were off to the charity store. After they left, Lauren started carrying boxes out to her car, thinking that she should have enlisted some more help. Either way, it was incredibly nice of Jimmy and Matt to waste their evening moving her furniture. The boxes from her bedroom and hall closet filled up the car, so she drove off to Jimmy’s house. She carried the boxes inside, left them in the living room for now, and then returned back to her old house to pick up some more.

Three trips later, all the boxes of her things were at Jimmy’s house. The guys were pulling up in Matt’s truck to make their third trip as well. As of now, all that was left was her living room furniture. As they left for their last trip, Lauren took a quick walk through of the house to make sure she hadn’t forgotten anything. Her car was already loaded up with the last few things she was bringing to Jimmy’s house. Since everything seemed to be in order, she sent a text to her realtor and told him the house was now empty. They somehow managed to get all of it done in only four hours, which was beyond impressive.

When the guys returned after their final trip, Lauren hugged Matt and thanked him for helping out. Matt took his truck home, and Jimmy and Lauren hopped into her car. As she pulled away, she couldn’t help but take one last look back at her old home.

“How did your appointment go?” Lauren asked. They had been so busy moving that she hadn’t thought to ask about his eye doctor’s appointment.

“He said I can have the surgery,” Jimmy smiled. “I’m scheduled for next Monday.”

“Awesome. I’m so excited for you. And don’t worry, I’ll be there to help your blind ass get home,” she laughed.

“I won’t be blind for long!” he replied confidently.

Once they arrived at Jimmy’s house, he helped her go through all the boxes and sort out her belongings. He told her that she could move some of her stuff into his bedroom, so she grabbed a bag of clothes and picked a dresser. Jimmy was in the living room unpacking while she situated her clothes in the drawer.

She filled the drawer but noticed that she still had a few things to put away. Opening the drawer above the one she just filled, she noticed it was just a few of Jimmy’s T-shirts. She pushed them over to one side so she could fit her clothes in, when she heard a weird noise.
Out of one of his T-Shirts rolled an orange pill bottle. Lauren frowned and picked it up, reading the label. The prescription was for oxycodone, and it was made out to Jimmy’s name.

Suddenly, Jimmy appeared in the doorway.

“Please tell me you're not taking these?” Lauren asked quietly, holding up the bottle.

“I promise I'm not. I know it looks bad, but I used to hide shit all over my house. You can drug test me, I'll pee in a cup right now,” he explained, walking towards her.

“Promise you're not keeping a secret from me?” She asked. He nodded.

“I promise. I’m completely sober.”

She wasn't sure if she believed him. She wanted to, and he seemed sincere, but she knew that addicts had a very high chance of relapse. Jimmy was no exception. However, even though she had her doubts, she trusted him.

“I believe you,” she said. Pocketing the pill bottle, she stood up. Jimmy walked over to her and kissed her forehead.

“Thank you. I'm not that person anymore,” he murmured.

“I know you're not, Jimmy. I didn't mean to jump to conclusion.”

“I don't blame you, it looked suspicious. Let’s forget this and get some sleep, angel.”

Comments

Not sure why I waited so long to leave a comment, especially considering that I've been reading this story since the beginning. You made me laugh, cry and hope so thank you very much. I absolutely love your writing and the story itself was simply great. It was a great journey and you definitely kept me company when you updated and I had to work the night shift.

Just like the others, I loved both endings and I honestly can't wait to read the sequel <3

I loved both the endings and I have reasons to like both too! Ever since I started reading this when you first updated, I badly wanted Jimmy to recover and have his happy ending with Lauren. And you did give me what I wanted!

But when you started giving hints about Zacky's feelings towards Lauren, I wasn't really excited because she deserved to be with Jimmy :p
Then eventually when Lauren and Zack started supporting each other, I didn't mind if they ended up together.

So ultimately, I love both the endings!

So I've spent pretty much my entire day at work (business is slow) reading the alternate ending and that's definitely the ending I saw coming when I was reading. I love that Jimmy got a second chance in the ending you went with, but the alternate one was bitter-sweet. I'll definitely get into your Zacky story, next

Both endings were very good! I figured Zacky and Lauren would get together in the alternate ending! But in the first ending with Jimmy still alive, I can only imagine their struggle with the feelings.

Aww, I'm loving the ending you went with. I'll read the other one if I get bored at work today, or I'll read it tonight when I get home. And then check out your Zacky V story!! I should probably also make a start on the next chapter of my Syn Gates one, too.. ha
