Fresh Start

After having an intense conversation with myself about Matt, I get out the tub and get dressed.

I walk downstairs to see Matt fighting with someone online.

“Oh, come on! Seriously!” says Matt at the T.V.

I take out my phone and record him while trying to hide my laughter. Ya know, for revenge or blackmail purposes, not cause he’s cute or anything….

“Dude! You suck!”

I can’t hold it my laughter in anymore and Matt automatically freezes and stares at me.

“Oh no, don’t let me stop you.” I say while laughing at him.

Aww! Look, he’s blushing!

“I was just…ugh, never mind! Come on, show me what you got.” Says Matt while holding out the other PlayStation control.

“Hold on, I need my ice cream. This baby loves sweets.” I say heading into the kitchen.

Please don’t follow me. Please don’t follow me.

“So, Jade, how are you liking California?”

Damn

“Well, I’ve only been here for a day but it’s good so far, very different from Miami.” I say while opening the fridge and grabbing my chocolate ice cream and a water.

“Why did you leave?” Matt says as I open the draw to grab a spoon.

I freeze, trying to think of what to say. I barely know Matt. I couldn’t possibly tell him the truth. Why does he want to know? Why even hang out with me?

“Like I said, couldn’t resist this job opportunity.” I say while steeping around him, walking to the living room and sitting on the couch.

“Ready to lose?” I say hoping to change the subject.

“You’re on!” says Matt getting comfortable on the couch and focusing on our game.

After an intense game, I won, of course.
“How did you do that?” says Matt.

“Let’s just say I’ve had a lot of free time, being pregnant and all.” I say taking a bite of my ice cream.

“Let’s go again, I bet I win this time.”

“Well, solider, I am currently busy stuffing my face. Gotta get rid of these cravings.” I say and glance at him to see him staring at me.

“What?”

“I understand we barely know each other but I want to be in your life. If you ever need anyone, I’m here. I will gladly help you.”

“What makes you think I need help?”

I’m no damsel in distress. How dare he assume I need his help.

“I’m not saying you do. I can tell your perfectly capable of doing things yourself but everyone has bad days in their life. You can tell me anything.

Yea right, like I would spill my deepest darkest secrets to a stranger.

“I appreciate it Matt but I’m okay.” I say while cleaning up my mess and heading to the kitchen.

As I head back into the living room I see Matt getting up and putting on his jacket.

“I’ll let you get some sleep, I bet your exhausted.”

“Goodnight Matt.” I say giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

“Goodnight Jade, keep an open mind about what I said. I want to get to know you better.”

“Matt, I barely know you.” I sigh and shake my head at him.

“I know but were neighbors and I’m sure we will be hanging out a lot.” He says and rubs my baby bump.

“Just give me a chance Jade, I might surprise you.” Says Matt as he kisses my forehead and leaves.

Yea, I’m definitely not sleeping tonight.
