I Will Wait For You

After spending a long night consoling my best friend, it's finally morning again. Saturday mornings are usually pretty good, but I have a feeling that this one won't be so much.

"Morning." Alexa says, walking into her kitchen, as I sit at the breakfast bar drinking some much needed coffee.

"Morning. Coffee?" I ask.

"I don't know about that, it's not just me I have to consider anymore, I guess." She says, rubbing her stomach.

"Yes, of course. Maybe some orange juice instead?"

"That sounds great." She says, sitting at the bar across from me.

I get up, and get her a glass of orange juice, before sitting back down across from her.

"So..." I start. "Please don't hate me..."

"What did you do?" She immediately sits her glass down, and sits up straight.

"Nothing that bad..." I try to keep her calm. "But, I may have told Brian about the baby being his..."

"You what?!"

"I'm sorry, Lex. I was trapped! They were questioning me; they were never going to let me out of there without getting answers, first! He does deserve to know, though."

"I would've told him, myself."

"When? After you had the kid?"

"No!"

"Alexa, I know you're probably mad at me, now, but think about how you would feel if someone had lied to you like that."

"You're right... I feel so bad for just walking out like that."

"You feel bad? Ha! You really shouldn't... I wasn't very nice to him after you left."

"Lake..."

"I know I shouldn't have said anything at all, but I was just so pissed off about the way he acted about it, and I couldn't help myself. I was in the moment."

"I forgive you, Lakyn. But you should probably apologize to Brian... and I should, too."

The doorbell rings, suddenly, making us both jump a little.

"I'll get it." I say, and get up to answer the door. I open the door, slightly, to reveal Brian. "Brian." I say, sort of surprised. Shit, speak of the devil, and he shall appear.

"I'm not here to talk to you." Yeah, he's pissed at me. I should've suspected as much. "I don't have a lot of time, we are on the way to a meeting. Where's Alexa?"

"She's right..." I start to say, but Brian pushes past me. I choose to ignore him, and just apologize later. "Lex, I'll check in with you later, I'm going home."

"Alright. Call me later, or I'll come over."

"See ya." I say, grabbing my things, and closing the door, as I go out. I slip on my shoes, as I walk down her front steps, and throw my hair up into a messy bun. I probably look like complete and utter crap right now, still wearing the same clothes from last night, and unshowered. Of course I would run into Matt right now. I see him stepping out of the car, as I walk toward my car, and I try my best to act nonchalant.

He walks up to me, as I arrive at my drivers side. "Lakyn." It's more of a statement, and I don't really know how to respond to it.

"Matt." I say back.

"Are you planning on ignoring me, after what happened last night?"

"Matt, I..."

"I tried to call you several times, and I texted you, but you never answered. I thought maybe I did something to upset you."

"I didn't even realize you'd tried to get in touch with me... I was busy consoling Alexa, since she was pretty upset last night. The baby doesn't need all that stress."

"I understand. Look..."

"I'm sorry, Matt. I was really upset last night, too, and I took it out on Brian. I'm sorry that I went off on your friend like that, and I understand that you're probably upset with me over the things I said..."

"Lakyn," He stops me. "I wanted to tell you that you were right. Not about Brian, he really likes Alexa, he hasn't slept with a single female, since he's met her. But those things you said were spot-on... about me. I don't want to lead you on; make you thingkthis is going somewhere when it really isn't. I'm not a good man, Lakyn, and you really shouldn't be with someone like me."

"Matt..." My heart is breaking right now. I hadn't realized how much I wanted him, until now. We're not even together, and he's breaking up with me.

"Please don't fight me on this. You deserve better than me." He ends the conversation there, turning on his heel, and walking back to the car.

I'm so shocked I can barely move. I get into my car, and just sit there, letting my emotions get the best of me. I lay my head on the steering wheel, as the tears start to fall.
