Friends 2 Lovers

Brian laid in his bed and had doubted his decision to take the step he had taken. He was second guessing the whole thing, now he was alone with his thoughts. But then he thought about Tammy’s friendly face again, not able to feel guilty for one second of kissing her soft lips. If she wouldn’t like him the way he did her, he would at least have this one kiss. He groaned, who was he kidding, he would be crushed if she didn’t want him the way he wanted her.

Tammy, in the other room, was thinking about what had happened only a little over 9 hours ago. She had barely slept, not able to get Brian out of her head. His kiss had been sweet and gentle, but had both left them breathless when they had stepped away from each other again. Tammy had been thinking about Brian, wanting the door to open, to reveal the man she had been so hung up on for so long now.

Tammy’s phone beeped one short time, telling her she had received a text message.
“Happy birthday, beautiful! Your coffee is ready, the Xbox is warmed up, I’m all ready to give you a birthday ass woopin - M”

Tammy smiled at the text message she received from her best friend. It had been like this since they had met in third grade. Matt was the gamer, always busy with games or making music, while Tammy did the same, with the one difference, she listened to the music Matt made. Every one of their birthdays Matt and Tammy played games until they had lunch. First at their parents’ house, then at their own houses, with all their friends around. First the group only consisted of Matt’s bandmates, but soon Matt got Kim and later Mei also joined. Never once did one of the fleeting girls of one of the other guys joined their birthday lunch, as this was something that would be for only them and if they joined… It was serious.

As Tammy entered Matt’s game room, she saw him hanging on the couch and jumped over the back, plopping down next to him.
“Goodmorning, you look like crap”
“Geez, thanks, you are lucky it’s your birthday, or I would have just kicked your ass right away” He kissed her cheek and hugged her tightly for a moment “Happy birthday, beautiful! You will get your present later, I know you will love it”
“I don’t need presents, I have all I got” Tammy replied with a smile, again thinking about the kiss Brian and her shared the night before.

“Cut the crap, everyone needs presents” Matt chuckled as he handed her the second controller. Tammy watched her best friend navigate to the menu, Matt looked at her, just before he pressed the start button.
“You sure you don’t want to play a real game?” He teased.
“Cut the crap Sanders, you just don’t want to play Resident Evil, because you know I will kick your ass. Stop stalling and get this show on the road!”
It was always the same with them, on her birthday they played Resident Evil, a game Tammy had perfected. At his birthday, Tammy had to play, the to her less favorite, Call of Duty.
“So, how did you sleep?” Matt asked casually as he made his way through the game, shooting monsters as he went.
“Good, nothing different than usual” Tammy replied, feeling her cheeks heat up a little.
“My night was pretty good too” Matt smirked back at her, noticing her reddish cheeks “Why are you blushing? Did you have a good dream or something?”
The two best friends had known each other for so long, they could say anything to each other, but somehow, Tammy wasn’t really comfortable sharing what was going on in her mind right now. She might need Matt’s wife for that.

Tammy always thought she didn’t need anything else besides Matt and the friends he had brought into their little group. She was quite comfortable around these men and she could always talk to Matt, he was the perfect gay best friend, without the being gay part.
That all changed when Kim and Mei started hanging out with them. At first Tammy was afraid they would screw up the group dynamics, but soon she noticed these girls never asked for anyone to change, they adjusted to their group and it worked out great.
With the two women joining the group, Tammy noticed what she had missed. She wasn’t the girly girl type, but sometimes it was just nice to have a few of her own gender around. She was one lucky person.

Tammy counted her blessings and was almost tempted to tell Matt, but most certainly now….with someone suddenly kissing her, and that someone also being one of the best friends of her best friend… she needed the womanly view.

“EAT THAT!” Matt yelled as he killed off another monster, saving Tammy from a bloody death.
“You are not paying attention, get your head in the game Tams, what is wrong with you?”
“Nothing” She replied quickly and went on a killing spree.
Matt chuckled and shrugged “Okay, I believe you, didn’t have to kill those poor monsters”
She elbowed his side and leaned in a little while they kept playing their game, enjoying the small talk between them.

“Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Tammy! Happy birthday to yoouuuuuuu!”

Before Tammy knew what was happening, she was lifted up from the couch and she was into Jimmy’s arms, who was putting wet kisses all over her face. She had to laugh, Jimmy could get away with murder if he wanted to. When Jimmy had put her down, she was pulled into a tight embrace by her two other best friends. Kim and Mei both put a kiss on one side of her face as they wished her all the best.
“You guys go up, let us have a little women moment, before we have to sit down with you savages” Kim pushed Jimmy and Matt out of the room and plopped down on the couch next to Tammy and Mei.

“You feel older?” Mei asked with a smile.
“Don’t be stupid” Tammy smirked back in reply.
“You look older” Kim added, earning herself a punch on her shoulder from Tammy
“You just wait, in a little over 12 hours, it’s your turn missy!” Tammy teased her friend, who was her birthday buddy by one day.
The women fell silent and just enjoyed their moment together, until Tammy opened her mouth.
“I have to tell you guys something”
“What?” Mei turned around to face Tammy.
“Brian-“ Tammy started, but she had no chance to finish the sentence as Zack and Johnny entered the room screaming “Happy Birthday!”
Kim and Mei exchanged a look in confusion and whispered to each other as Tammy was congratulated by the men “What sentence can possibly start with “Brian-”? That must be a good thing right? I’m kicking those two out!”
Kim got up from the couch and started to push Zack and Johnny out, dying to know what her friend had wanted to tell her, but the guys didn’t let themselves get pushed and to ensure their positions, Zack had slung Tammy over his shoulder and was followed by Johnny, leaving two wondering women behind.

“So let’s start this lunch, shall we?” Matt announced looking around the table, only sitting there with Jimmy and Brian.
“Where are the girls?” He looked around not seeing the better the halves and best friend / birthday girl around.
“I set the freaking table and bought all her favorite foods, and now she stood me up? What the hell?” Matt complained.
“I got one!” Zacky yelled coming towards the living room with a struggling Tammy hanging over his shoulder, followed by a surprised and curious looking Mei and Kim, who both had their eyes fixed on a very quiet Brian sitting at the table, just observing what was happening around him.

“Let me down! Zachary, I’m warning you!” Tammy yelled, but Zacky held her steady.
“Uhhuu.. The full name, you got trouble, Baker… Big trouble. I wouldn’t set her down ever again.” Jimmy suggested with a laugh.
“You might be right, maybe I will just keep on walking, never let you down again.” Zacky joked walking in big circles around the living room, until Tammy finally gave up her struggle.
“Please.” She sighed, with no energy left.
And immediately Zacky set her down on her feet with a laugh.
“Oh see, that was the word! Magic happens when that word’s coming out of your mouth, Tams.” Zacky joked which earned him a punch to the shoulder as soon as Tammy got into the range.
“Can we come back to the main topic here, I set the table-” Matt began again looking at Tammy pointedly.
“You want a special praise for that or why you pointed that out, big guy?” Tammy asked with a smirk and Matt narrowed his eyes.
“I might rethink the gift we got for you and keep it to myself.” Matt said and Tammy clapped his shoulder.
“Okay, keep on talking, I’ll zip my lips…”
“You always say that but never do.” Matt shook his head at her with a smirk and Tammy rolled his eyes at him.

“Fine, can we eat now? I’m starving!” Johnny complained looking at the delicious food Matt had presented.
“If our birthday girl is ready?” Kim asked and looked at Tammy, something seemed to pass between the two, some open question, maybe?
“I’m ready, let’s sit down and enjoy our time together and like always, thank you all celebrating with me. I appreciate you taking your time and I told you now the hundredth time that you don’t need to get me any gifts, our friendship is more than enough for me. Sometimes even more than I can handle…. Zacky!” Tammy looked pointedly over to the green eyed man and Zacky blew her a hand kiss, knowing she was just joking.
“Don’t get mooshy on us now, sit down.. you will get your gift if you want to or not.” Matt told her to finish this and everybody took their places at the round table.

The atmosphere was relaxed and playful, the food delicious. Every now and then Tammy let her eyes wander over the group of friends, taking in the playfulness with each other, or the kisses shared between the couples.
Looking at her married friends, sharing loving kisses, reminded her of the kiss she shared with Brian again, and somehow she just saw herself on Kim’s place, and Matt turned into Brian.
“Did I tell you how much I love you?” Her Brian whispered but still loud enough for everyone to hear.
“No, you didn’t.” She replied with a smile.
“But I should have.” He leaned towards her, kissing her lips softly, his hand moved to her cheek, making the kiss much more intense than before, then pulling away with a smile and just staring at each other’s eyes.
“Tammy? You okay?” Mei asked beside her and Tammy roused from her small daydream.
“Yeah, fine totally fine.” Tammy eyes moved over to Brian and he had been looking at her the same instant, but both quickly averted their eyes, not really sure how to react around each other, after the nightly birthday kiss they shared.

Kim and Mei shared a look, hoping that what they were seeing was exactly what they thought they were seeing. The three male companions were oblivious to their friend’s looks, and weren’t hindered in the least to go on with the planned actions, Tammy knew right away when Matt got up from his chair and announced to get her present.
“So, we planned this all together” Matt said getting the big present, a large box, concealing from the outside, what would be hidden on the inside.

Brian got a panicked look on his face, he didn’t know about the gift, they haven’t told him about it, and what meant planned all together?
He didn’t have a gift for her? Will Matt point that out? What a friend he was, not getting anything for her and why did his friends not clue him in on their plan?
“You say presents are important and now I get just one gift from all of you together…?” Tammy asked with a laugh and earned some mean words.
“Fine fine… just kidding, go ahead. It’s big though.” Tammy said and Matt barged “That’s what she says every time.” Earning a slap from Kim to the back of his head. “Still true…” Kim grinned.
“So our gift.. oh before I forget… since one special person in this room, didn’t participate on the gift, I guess he had planned something special for you, right Haner?” Matt pushed him forward with a good shove and Brian looked even more uncomfortable.
“I.. what.. I..” He stuttered not really knowing what he should do now, so Mei helped him out.
“Maybe Tammy can unpack her gift, and then you tell her what your gift is… belonging to it?” Mei looked pointedly at the package and Brian nodded uncertain.
“Right… belonging to it… yeah.” He looked towards Tammy who already began unpacking.

After Tammy ripped the package apart she looked at the beautiful dark red guitar in her hands, but wore a frown on her face.
“I can’t play guitar… why would you give me a guitar” She looked into the smirking faces of her friends one by one which all looked at Brian.
“Oh” Was all that escaped Tammy’s lips and finally Brian got the clue on what he should say now.
“I will teach you?!” More a question than an offer but when he looked into his friends faces again, one by one began to nod… this would have been so funny, if it wasn’t him.
“You would do that?” Tammy asked quietly and Brian finally took the action of the conversation.
“Of course, I would… I mean if you want me too… You could also ask Zack, he is-”
“He is busy… you should start today… don’t lose time.” Zacky said and grabbed his jacket of the chair “We got something important to do anyway… I heard Brian got nothing planned for the whole night, right?” He grabbed, Johnny at his collar and dragged him towards the entrance “I didn’t finish my plate-” Was all Johnny said before the door closed.
“Tammy, you also got no plans for today right?” Kim suggested and Tammy looked at her with wide eyed.
“Well.. I thought we would-” Tammy began but was interrupted by Jimmy this time.
“Sorry, Matt, Kim, Mei and I were planning this romantic couple double date thing, since months… sorry… and that is this afternoon.”
“On my birthday”
“That’s what I said” Jimmy nodded with a serious face, not letting any more questions in.

“Okay, so why not today?” Tammy looked at Brian who nodded at her with a smile.
“Cool, so you will come over to my place? I got all the equipment we need.” Brian suggested and Tammy nodded, while their friends were secretly high-fiving behind their backs, job well done!
