Stand Up and Scream

“Haley?” Danny called out.

“Living room,”

Danny walked out of her room and into the living room. She had her laptop in her hands and rushed over to the brown haired girl.

“Look at this!”

“What-”

Haley looked at Danny's laptop and read the page. Her eyes widened and she gasped.

“Get out! No way! Is this real!?”

Danny nodded her head and Haley re-read the post on Facebook.

To all of our lovely fans, we would like to say that there is a new contest coming up! The winner and a friend will be picked up from their homes and will be taken to our studio and look around and see us record some songs.
This contest finished this Friday, today is Monday, so if you want to meet us and come down to the studio enter this contest everyday and we will get to the winner on Friday afternoon.

Haley let out a whistle. Danny nodded her head eagerly and looked at Haley with puppy eyes.

“Can we please join?”

“Doesn't Jimmy have your number?” Haley asked.

“Yes, but he's a rockstar. He might have only wanted it to get my hopes up.”

“Yeah still, Jimmy Sullivan, The Rev, whatever you want to call him. He has your number!”

“His real name is James! God Haley!” Danny joked.

“Still! He could call you!”

“Doubt it, can we enter, yes or no?” Danny asked getting impatient.

“Sure, fill out your details.

Danny squealed then hugged her best friend. She grabbed her laptop and ran to her bedroom. Haley laughed and shook her head. She got up and grabbed a beer from the kitchen.

“Danny?”

“Yeah?” Danny's head pooped out of her door.

“Why do we have so much beer?” Haley asked while capping open her bottle.

“Dunno, thought I was being clever when I was drunk.”

Haley laughed and shook her head.

“Only you,” Danny smiled then shut her door. Haley looked around the kitchen and found that it was clean so she went to her own room.

Walking into her room she saw it was the way she left it. Two grey walls and two light purple with signed band posters on the wall opposite her bed. Her double bed covered in grey satin covers. The carpet was a light grey. She sighed and sat on her bed.

Flashbacks

“Haley-Ray James!”

“I'm sorry...please don't...stop Dad!” a ten year old Haley-Ray shouted.

“What was that? Don't stop?”

“No!” wailed Haley as she got whipped with her Dad's belt again.

“Girls like you get punished!”

Haley sobbed and cried as her Dad cracked his belt down again over her back. The beating stopped and Haley held her breath.

“Your lucky that I have work. Don't be a pain in the ass for your Mom otherwise we'll continue!”

Mr James left his daughters bedroom and slammed her door shut. Haley sobbed and cried into her pillow and heard her door open.

“Haley?” called out Anna, Haley's seven year old sister.

“Anna, what are you doing?”

Anna climbed on to her sisters bed and saw that Haley's back was bleeding a little. Anna
gasped and jumped off the bed and downstairs.

“Mommy, Haley-Ray has marks on her! She's bleeding too!”

“Tell her I'll be up in a minute. Go and comfort your sister. You too, Jason.”

Haley heard footsteps on the stairs and saw her door open wider. Jason, her fifteen year old brother, cane in with Anna.

“Hey,” Jason said as he got on Haley's bed. Anna climbed on to the other side and lay down with Haley.

“Hi,” Haley said as she looked over at him.

“I'm sorry, it was supposed to be me.”

“Jase, don't blame yourself. It was my fault in the end.”

Mrs James came in with a cloth and a bowl of warm water.

“Jason, could you help Anna bathe, please? It's ready, she just needs to get in it now.”

Jason nodded his head and kissed his sisters forehead before picking up his youngest sister.

The door closed and they both heard Anna giggle as Jason pretended to be a bath monster.

“I don't know why he does this,” Mrs James said softly as she gently wiped away the blood from her daughters back.

Haley gritted her teeth and winced in pain. The warm water was welcoming but it was the
sudden action of her mother touching her back that made her wince.

“I'll try to protect all of you from now on, he's gone too far this time.” Mrs James swore as she cared for Haley-Ray's back.

Flashback Over

Haley sighed and wiped away the stray tear. Danny knocked on her door and popped her head in.

“I was wondering what you'd like from the take out but it seem like I have to ask you what's wrong?”

“The past,”

“Which memory?” Danny asked as she sat next to her best friend.

“One when I was ten. I know that there's a lot, but there's a certain one.”

Danny nodded and hugged Haley.

“You and I are living better without your Dad and my parents.” Danny said as she grabbed
Haley's hand.

“I know, so how did entering that contest go?” Haley said while lightening the mood.

“I struggled but in the end I did it!” Danny said as she continued to tell Haley-Ray's everything.
