Into the Unknown

Chapter 3

Mel's P.O.V.

Zacky, green eyed boy, was quiet the rest of the class period and didn't even try to talk to me anymore. He stared straight ahead and ignored me. Of course, I din't try to get his attention, but that doesn't mean I don't want it.
I sighed quietly and decided that I , too, would ignore people. So instead of looking at him in my peripheral, I looked out the window and continued to listen to my music.
I guess I had fallen asleep because the bell suddenly rang out of nowhere for the next class. I looked over to where Zacky sat and saw that he had gone, for some reason I was very upset that he wanted to get away as fast as he could.
I frowned and gathered my stuff to go meet Kory at our next class.

"So, I met Mr. Green Eyes." I began as I met up with Kory and began walking with her.
"Oh yeah?" She said, not really into the conversation.
"Yeah, he's weird, he asked me what I was listening to and then completely ignored me for the rest of the class." I folded my arms across my chest and sighed, "Too bad, he's a total catch."
Kory scoffed and fixed the straps on her backpack.
"Looks can be very deceiving." She said, as we turned into the classroom. Science.
Kory and I were Lab partners so we sat next to each other. I heard Kory suddenly take in a breath and hold it. I looked to where she was staring and saw Matt, walking into the classroom, one strapping his bag, carelessly. He looked bored as he walked up to the teacher and quietly talk to her. The teacher looked at me and Kory, still talking to Matt.
Kory growled and I could sense that she rolled her eyes, "She's going to put him with me." She mumbled, gripping her pencil tightly.
I frowned, "That means...I have to move." I slowly stood up as Matt and the teacher walked over to our table.
"Good Afternoon ladies." The teacher said, she smiled at Kory. For some reason the teacher really liked Kory and I. Maybe it was because we knew our stuff, or maybe it was because we were quiet and did our work.
"Hey." Kory and I mumbled simultaneously.
"I'm sorry, girls, I'm going to put Matthew with Kory because I feel like she can help him get caught up."
If it was possible, Kory's frowned deepened.
"Yeah we kind figured," I piped up, pulling my bag over my shoulder, "I'll go sit over by Amanda." Amanda was one of the very few people who didn't pick on Kory and I. She actually took the time to know us.
"Thank you, Melanie." The teacher said, kindly.
"Yeah, thanks Mel." Kory mumbled.
I smirked and patted her back before turning and sitting with Amanda.
Halfway through class Kory didn't look like she was having any fun. She sat tensed up, looking so tiny compared to Matt sitting next to her. She wasn't very loud when she was explaining what we were doing and she never looked up at him. She kept her eyes on the floor or the table. Pretty much everywhere but Matt.
I frowned, feeling sorry for my best friend. I don't know what Matt did, but she definitely didn't like Matt, who as well was quiet and tensed up, only he looked at her, he looked at her hard.

Mel's P.O.V.

I scooted my chair as far over as possible as Matt sat on the one next to me. I swallowed hard and refused to look at him. Instead, I looked at the floor and the table. Even though I wasn't looking at him, I could feel his eyes burning into me as I explained to him what we were doing. I couldn't help but to lock my muscles and remain away from him.
Matt was tense too but he looked as if he were ready to pounce on me at any second and eat me alive.
My whole body was hot but my skin was ice cold, clammy.
"Do I scare you?"
I jumped nearly out of my seat and gasped, surprised by his voice. It was heavenly. His voice was low, and scratchy. Just hearing it made goosebumps spread across my arms.
I shook my head vigorously and stared straight ahead.
"I don't believe you." He whispered, seeming to be closer than before.
I held my breath to keep from breathing in his scent. I didn't answer he stayed where he was for what seemed like eternity before he moved away, chuckling.
I bit my tongue, wanting to yell at him that he was being an ass and I don't appreciate his smugness.
My mouth remained shut. The bell was getting ready to ring. Just a few more minutes, Kory. I thought to myself as I closed my eyes.
He's just a man.
