Lost, Broken and Shattered

Part Thirteen

Zack paces the kitchen angrily as Erin watches him with a raised eyebrow. He dials Daenerys’ number again, only to have it go straight to voicemail.

“Fucking hell,” he mutters, throwing his phone down onto the counter.

Not an hour earlier, Zack had realized the young girl had gone missing; he had been trying to get a hold of her ever since, and he was beginning to get rather pissed off. So was Erin. She angrily begins biting her nails. Of course Daenerys would get all the attention today…

“Do you have any idea where your sister might be?” he demands suddenly, spinning around towards Erin. She looks slightly taken aback, but she shakes her head.

“Haven’t seen her since last night,” she answers honestly. He practically face-palms himself at this.

Shit,” he mutters. “She probably went out to get high.” He slams his fist down on the counter, just barely missing the phone. Erin jumps slightly. “When she gets home, I swear to god…” He doesn’t get a chance to finish his sentence, because his phone goes off. He picks it up quickly, checking the caller ID. “Finally. Hello?”

Erin strains her ear to try and listen in. He can hear the faint sound of her sister’s voice on the other end. Zack’s face grows more and more furious with every word she says to the point where it’s turned a light shade of red.

“You really expect me to believe you? I’m coming to get you, Daenerys. Don’t even think about leaving.” He hangs up angrily before turning back to Erin. “Come on. We’re leaving.”

~

Twenty minutes later, they pull into the parking lot of OCP, almost an entire hour before classes are due to start. Surprisingly, Daenerys and Will are sitting on the front steps of the school, waiting patiently for them. Daenerys’ head rests on his shoulder, eyes closed, and tears spilling from her eyes. Will keeps an arm wrapped tightly around her shoulder, rubbing it gently. As soon as he spots Zack walking towards them, he narrows his eyes.

Erin steps out of the car just as Zack grabs Daenerys roughly by the shoulders, pushing her back towards the car. She looks over her shoulder longingly at Will, who shoots her a small, yet loving smile, back at her.

“Dad?” Erin asks as Zack brushes straight past her.

“Go to school, Erin; I’ll pick you up after,” he tells her, once Daenerys is in the car. Erin turns back towards Will; he glares harshly at her and she shivers slightly.

“So,” he growls, “You’re Erinyes.” She folds her arms across her chest.

Maybe,” she sniffs. “Why do you care?”

“Your sister said you were looking to get an abortion,” he replies, the look on his face not changing. She falters slightly and the look in his eyes tells her that he notices.

“I don’t need an abortion, thank you very much,” she snaps and he raises an eyebrow.

“Really? Because from what she’s told me, you’d rather get an abortion than disappoint anyone.” This time, it’s her turn to glare at him.

“That’s really none of your business.”

“Actually,” he argues, “it sort of is. If you want to get an abortion, and you want to use drugs to do it, I’m your guy.”

“Daenerys works for you?”

“She doesn’t work for me necessarily,” he explains. “She works for my dad.”

“And how do you know I’m not going to tell anyone any of this?” He takes a step towards her and she flinches.

Because,” he growls. “If you do, my father’s men won’t hesitate to kill you.” She gulps.

“W-Whatever.” He steps away from her again.

“So, do you want the abortion or not?”

“I think I’d rather have a professional do it, thank you very much.” He shrugs.

“Fine by me.” He then nods towards the direction Zack and Daenerys sped off. “Where do you think he’s taking her?” he asks.

“Probably home,” she replies cautiously. “Why do you care?” He narrows his eyes at her again.

“I care about Danny. The last thing I want is for him to hurt her.” Erin scoffs.

“Trust me,” she tells him, “Zack’s patience with my sister may be completely non-existent at this point, but he knows better than to take his anger out on her physically.” He frowns.

“I don’t know… He looked about ready to kill her right then.”

“He always looks like he’s about to kill her.” She rolls her eyes and this turns his frown even deeper. “Why do you even care about my sister, anyway?” His gaze turns back to her; his blue eyes are cold and hard, which sends chills down her spine.

“Why don’t you?” Erin straightens up.

“Because she’s a fuck-up,” she replies simply. “She’s a drug addict, and all she does is get herself into trouble. She’s going nowhere.”

“Did you ever stop to think that maybe you’re the reason why she’s like that?” Erin’s mouth falls open slightly, rendered speechless. “That’s what I thought.” With that, he turns on his heel and disappears inside the building.

“You’re glowing,” Liberty points out to her as soon as she walks into their sixth-period class, taking a seat beside the blonde. “And you’re belly is getting rounder. When are you getting rid of it.”

“Could you keep it down?” Erin hisses, glancing around nervously. Luckily, none of the other seniors notice, and she calms down a little.

“Sorry,” she whispers back. “But isn’t there, like, a limit on how pregnant you can be before you can’t abort it?”

“I still don’t even know if I’m going to abort it or not,” she reminds her. “And even if I was going to get an abortion, I’d need to tell someone, wouldn’t I? I mean, how else am I going to pay for it, or even get there in the first place?”

“I could ask my sister to take you,” Liberty tells her. “It’s not like she does anything anyway.”

“And how am I going to pay for it?” This clearly stumps her.

“Maybe you could ask your sister,” she suggests, causing Erin to shake her head furiously.

“No,” she says, “No; Daenerys would never do that for me.”

“She might.” Erin just continues to shake her head. “Look, why don’t you ask her tonight? Then text me if she does, and we can go after school tomorrow.”

“I don’t know if my dad will let me,” she says slowly. “I’m grounded right now for throwing that party.”

“So what? Just… lie.”

Lie?”

She blinks, the word foreign on her tongue. There was a difference between lying and keeping a secret, and Erin was certainly a thousand times better at the latter. The only reason why it had been so easy to convince Michelle she was going to Liberty’s house for the night the other day, was simply by calling upstairs to her, while she was standing in the entryway, so the older woman could not see her blatant body language, that would’ve given her away otherwise.

“What would I say?” she asks desperately as the teacher begins to call for everyone to quiet down. Liberty just shrugs.

“I don’t know, say you have a meeting with a teacher about extra-credit or something,” she whispers hurriedly, not wanting to get in trouble for talking. “He’ll probably be pretty distracted with Daenerys, anyway.”

Erin sighs gently. She has a good point.

“Okay,” she nods. “I’ll tell him that.” Liberty smiles and gives her a quick thumbs up, but the gesture is not enough to calm the butterflies in her stomach.

Notes

A/N: Okay I know abortion is a touchy topic with people, so thank you, if you still read this all the way through.

Hope you guys enjoyed I know this is more of a filler chapter, but something you guys should know is that this story is more of a backstory for the sequel, so I promise things will get more in depth/exciting then.
