Fire Inside

‘wow this is so cool!’ I said excitedly as I walked around the bus, the guys were sitting in the front just watching as I walked around like a kid in a toy store. ‘I think someone’s excited’ I heard my dad say and I nodded ‘just wait until about the fourth day, you’ll be bored’ Mike said and I rolled my eyes ‘good thing I brought my art stuff then huh?’ I said and he nodded as I walked to my bunk and grabbed my sketch book, pencil and a big eraser. I walked back into the front and sat at the little table that was there, I opened my book to a clean page and started drawing my dad as he sat on the couch and read a book. It took me a few hours and thankfully he was really into his book and didn’t move much, once I finished with the pencil I went and grabbed my colored pencils, pens, markers and sharpies.

I colored in his clothing which was easy because it was all black and then I put a crazy background behind him. ‘Devin?’ ‘Hmm?’ ‘What do you want for dinner, were stopping somewhere’ ‘uh huh yeah sounds good’ ‘don’t bother, she won’t answer until she’s finished’ I heard my dad say so I looked up and raised an eyebrow at him ‘what happened?’ I asked and he laughed a little ‘were getting food, what do you want?’ ‘oh I don’t care but no taco bell because I'm the only bitch on this bus and I am not dealing with you guys hogging the bathroom all night’ I said and they all started laughing as I went back to my work. ‘Ok, Hardees it is’ I heard and I nodded, not paying attention as I colored the background more.

‘Done!’ I said happily as I looked up at the guys, they were about to all take bites of their food ‘can we see?’ ‘Where’s my food?’ ‘In front of you’ Mike said and I looked in front of me, there was a bag of food there and a drink ‘in that case, yes’ I giggled and I put all my drawing things away so they didn’t spill then I picked up my book and turned it towards them ‘wow’ they all said and I smiled ‘you like it pops?’ ‘Of course I do baby’ he smiled then came over to me and kissed my forehead, I smiled up at him then closed the book and set it aside so I could eat. They got me a bacon cheese burger, fries and a chocolate milkshake ‘oh my god I love you guys’ I moaned after I took a bite of my burger, they laughed and I smiled as I ate and watched the tv with them.

It took me about an hour to finish my food because I ate big meals slow, it kept me full longer and it took me about 40 minutes to finish my milkshake because it was so thick. Once it was gone though I was in a food coma and I cuddled up to my dad on the couch ‘you got me that on purpose’ I whispered and he smiled down at me then kissed my forehead ‘ready for bed?’ he asked and I nodded then wrapped my arms around his neck ‘oh I see how it is’ he chuckled then picked me up and carried me to the back to lay me in my bunk, I had changed into yoga pants earlier so I didn’t have to worry about that. ‘good night baby’ daddy whispered and I smiled and hugged him tight ‘good night daddy’ I whispered back, he kissed my forehead again, tucked me in then walked away after closing the curtain for me.

When I woke up the next morning it was to the smell of coffee and because I was a little chilly so I pulled on a black pull over and shimmied outta bed, I walked into the front part of the bus where I saw Dan sitting on the couch with coffee so I shuffled over to him after getting my coffee and curled up into his side, he chuckled a little and wrapped an arm around me. ‘Cold?’ ‘Mhm’ I nodded and rested my head against his chest, he rubbed his hand on my arm slowly as we watched the news and waited for the others to get up. ‘you're quiet this morning’ he whispered and I tilted my head to look up at him ‘just thinking about the next few months while I'm here’ ‘you’ll have fun and you know we’ll look after you’ ‘yeah I know, I just hope I don’t get home sick or anything like that’

‘We all did our first time but we were also always partying and drinking but now that we’ve slowed down it’s nicer I think’ he said and I nodded a little then just kept looking into his eyes, they were always so beautiful to me. He leaned down a little and kissed my forehead making me smile up at him, he smiled back and then tightened his arm around me a little and I put my head back on his chest. ‘morning guys’ I heard and I turned to see John walking over to us and sitting down next to me, I looked up at Dan and he nodded a little so I smiled then cuddled up to John, he wrapped both his arms around me as I leaned into his chest. We all continued watching the news as everyone else woke up and sat around us.
