Nothing lasts forever

I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems...

It had been 4 weeks since Jacqueline's accident and there was no change. She had been in a coma for the time being but on the bright side when, and if, she wakes up she won't have to wait too long for her injuries to heal. After they performed surgery on her 6 times, she was moved to a private room in which she stayed in ever since. The damage that eighteen wheeler did was beyond compare. Jacqueline had broken her collarbone, cracked all of her ribs, shattered her right femur and left knee cap, cracked her skull open and had major internal bleeding in her chest and stomach, broke her left foot and her nose. Her right arm was the only major bone that wasn't broken. Her left arm though, was completely obliterated. It was stuck in between the steering wheel and the dashboard and the fire department had to bust out the Jaws of Life in order to free her arm. They almost had to amputate it. The doctors ended up using a total of 136 stitches on her left arm just to save it. The worst of it was behind the boys though, now they just need to play the waiting game. Ever since Arin came to the hospital, he hasn't left and the rest of the band was worried sick for him. Even Johnny went home once or twice and he was her fucking brother. All Arin did was sit in the chair next Jacqueline's bed and stare at her. The last time he spoke to anyone was when the nurse explained Jacqueline's injuries. The guys have tried to coax him out of that room but none of them had any luck. They weren't even sure if Arin was eating.

"Hey Arin...any luck?" Brian asked quietly as he walked into the hospital room.

Arin shook his head slowly and sighed. Brian knew he wouldn't get a word out of him but he still had to try. He pulled up chair next to him and sat down, facing Arin.

"Arin." Brian started but Arin ignored him. "Arin, dude, you can't stay in here forever."

"Yes I can." Arin mumbled. His voice was weak and raspy, hence he hadn't spoken at all for 4 weeks.

"Have you even eaten since we got here?" Arin shook his head once again and Brian scoffed. "You have to go home and eat something. I bet you haven't been sleeping either."

Arin shook his head once again. "You can't do this to yourself Arin! You need to eat, you need to sleep, and you need to go home. Jacqueline's not waking up anytime soon and you sitting in this room and wasting away isn't gonna help
jack shit."

"Shut up." Arin snapped at him, bitterly.

"I'm not gonna sugarcoat this dude. It was a fucking miracle that Jacqueline survived that wreck but she isn't going to wake up! Think about it, her tiny Camry against that huge ass eighteen wheeler truck? No fucking chance! So get it through you're head, SHE ISN'T WAKING UP!"

Arin shot out of his seat so fast that the chair flew back and hit the hall. He stared Brian down and clenched his fists so tight his knuckles were white.

"Don't ever say that again." He hissed through his clenched jaw.

"She's not waking up Arin." Brian snapped again.

"Quit being a dick Brian! This is one of your fucking best friends were talking about!"

"You're right this is one of my best friends, not yours. You fucking met her last week and you can't let go! Why won't you fucking leave and forget about her!" Brian shouted in the drummer's face. He felt bad for what he was saying to the kid but somebody had to.

"Because I can't! The second I saw Jacqueline my heart literally stopped. Every time I close my eyes I see her. Every time I sleep I see her. Everywhere I fucking go I see nothing but her! Sure I met her last week but there's no denying I have feelings for that woman. And I don't care what you think Brian, I'll wait as long as it takes for her to wake up. Whether it takes days months or even years, I'm not leaving this motherfucking room until she can too." Arin screamed. After that he grabbed his chair, pulled it back to it's original spot, and sat back down without another word.

Brian was flabbergasted by Arin's outburst. He never thought the fucker had it in him to stand up to Brian. Arin always gave off the 'get things done, no questions asked' kind of vibe and he never talked back to any of the guys for the time he's been there. Brian had nothing to say to Arin at this point. He knew now how Arin really felt about Jacqueline. Brian saw them as they stood in front of Jimmy's old drum set. He saw them at the bar, taking shots together then making out. He saw them right before Jacqueline's accident. But he never really saw them. Brian never really saw the way Arin looked at Jacqueline when they speak to each other, he never really saw the way they both stood speechless when they first met, and he never really saw the connection between the two. But he sees it now and knows that Arin means every single word he said. And now Brian feels like a major dick for trying to convince Arin, and himself, that Jacqueline would never wake up. Brian kept telling himself their was no hope for her because he was afraid of what the outcome was. Ever since Jimmy passed, Brian had been very pessimistic. He always assumed the worst in every situation and forced himself to deal with something that might not even happen. He figured if he prepared for the worst then it wouldn't be as bad when the worst actually happened. Brian was brought of his thoughts by Arin screaming his name. Here comes the worst...

Jacqueline's POV*

I heard two mean arguing but I couldn't make out the extremely familiar voices. I heard them screaming at each other then the room fell silent. I tried to open my eyes but my eyelids felt like a ton of bricks. And no matter how hard I tried, my arms and legs wouldn't move. I put all my energy into calling for someone to help me but instead I started to cough uncontrollably.

"BRIAN SHE'S AWAKE." That voice screamed again. But this time I could tell who was speaking. Arin.

"Arin?" I croaked before bursting out into tears.

He wrapped his arms around me carefully and held me as I sobbed into his shoulder. I felt his tears fall on my back but I didn't care. All I wanted to do was stay in Arin's arms. I noticed Brian standing by the door with a small smile on his face.

"Please...please never do that again." Arin stated with a shaky, hoarse voice.

"I don't plan on it." I said, laughing slightly.

Arin pulled back and looked into my eyes with a weak smile. I put his hands on my cheeks and pulled my face to his. I felt his lips brush against mine and I smiled. I kissed him back softly as the butterflies in my stomach went crazy. I pulled away and he out his forehead against mine.

"Promise?" He stuck his pinky out towards me and I grinned at him.

"Pinky promise."
