Ch. 42- Leave
*~*Jimmy’s POV*~*
I stuffed the last of my clothes in my bags, straining to zip up the bag when I heard voices outside the room.
Maybe I should have folded them. Nah fuck it.
A smiling Kamalei and Zacky came in the door laughing and in much better spirits then the last time I saw either of them.
“Well you two seem to be better.” I said as I struggled to get the zipper to close.
“Jimmy, maybe you should fold the clothes. You know it will fit in there better?” Kamalei giggled as she walked up and inspected what I was doing.
“My little Lei-Lei don’t just stand there. Get up there and sit on this suitcase so I can zip it.” I told her.
She climbed up on the bed and sat down on the lid, instantly making it able to zip. I hugged her as I picked her up and set her back on the ground.
“I’m glad you feel better little Lei-Lei. Did mean Zacky apologize to you baby sister?” I asked her.
“Yes he did. Everything is much better now. I can’t wait to get to my new home.” She smiled up at me.
“Now I wonder how did you suddenly get so excited to come back to Cali with us? Where did you run off to little one?” I asked suspiciously.
“Somewhere special.” She smiled at Zacky, him returning the smile.
Something is going on. Something I don’t know about. I don’t like being left in the dark… I’ll have to get it out of them when they’re drunk or something…
“Special huh? Am I not special?” I pouted.
“Oh you’re special alright Jimmy…” Zacky joked.
Kamalei giggled at his joke, “Awww, Zacky you can’t be mean to Jimmy like that. Of course you are special too Jimmy. I took Zacky because he needed to come with me. Don’t be mad Jimby.”
“You owe me a big hug then…” I said holding my arms out wide to her.
She jumped in my arms happily, squeezing tight. I looked to Zacky and I swore I saw a flash of jealousy before he shook his head and made his way over to a crumpled T-shirt on the floor. He picked up the shirt and made his way over to his already packed bags, stuffing it inside one. She released her hold on me, bouncing happily over to her bags and I was pleased to see her doing so much better.
“Let me carry some of your bags for you my Lei girl.” Zacky said as he stacked 2 of her 4 bags on top of his suitcases.
“Alright my Zacky boy…” she said as she grabbed her other bags, “Jimmy are you ready too?”
“Yeah, let’s go. You sure you can get those?” I asked her, not wanting her to hurt herself more.
“Yeah. I took a pill earlier Jimby. I’ll be fine.” She told me as she wheeled her suitcases behind her towards the door.
“Is that my new name?” I questioned her as we stepped out into the hall.
“Yup. Sure is.” She smiled looking back over her shoulder at me.
We made our way down to the lobby and loaded up Kelly’s truck. We made our way to the airport, Kelly calling her friend that was going to pick up her truck and ship it to California for her after we left. We all got out of the truck in the parking lot and started to unload our bags. As the rest of us started to walk towards the crosswalk, Kelly and Kamalei stood in the parking lot, looking out at the mountains behind us.
Kelly put her arm around Kamalei’s shoulders as she spoke to her, “It’s gonna be good. This is what we need.”
Kamalei nodded her head before agreeing, “Yeah, it is. A new start with new people.”
Kamalei inhaled deeply before looking over to me smiling. I extended my hand out to her which she took happily, swinging as we walked across the crosswalk with everyone.
“You alright little one?” I leaned down and asked her quietly.
“Yes big brother Jimmy. It’s all gonna be alright.” She said looking ahead of her, in what I thought was Zacky’s direction.
“With us you know it will be.” I said as we checked in our bags.
*~*Kamalei’s POV*~*
I felt so much better after going to my special place with Zacky. It literally changed my whole outlook on moving my life to California with my brother and his friends.
Zacky… he made it all better. That kiss was something much more magical then the first time. He made me see fireworks as cliché as that is… Maybe because we’re not both drunken messes this time. I just wish I didn’t ruin it with my stupid flashbacks of Micah. When he grabbed my hair it just triggered something in me to resist instantly. I know Zacky wouldn’t do the things Micah did to me, but maybe I just need more time to let my body and mind realize that things are different now…
“Lei?! Hello Mary!?” Kelly said teasing me while I was in a daydreaming state.
“Sorry… what?”
“Girl, get your head out of the clouds… here’s your ticket, let’s hit security so we can get Starbucks upstairs.” She said pulling me behind her.
We all went thru security, got upstairs and Val, Kelly, and I went over to Starbucks while the guys all went to our gate to wait for the flight. Standing in the line, Val and Kelly finally getting me alone, turned on me.
“So, where did you go with Zacky?” Val asked with her voice dripping of suspicion.
“I took him somewhere special.” I answered.
“She took him to her family land in Kuau. Didn’t you?” Kelly explained.
I simply nodded my head in response.
“Ok, so what happened when you were there?” Val questioned.
“Nothing, we just talked and stuff.”
“Bullshit Kamalei. Something happened because you are in a WAY better mood then when you left in my truck. Tell us.” Kelly implored.
“Seriously, nothing happened. Just let it go, he said some stuff to me that made me feel better about leaving. You know that place does wonders to me and always can make me feel better.” I said before I ordered my drink from the barista.
“Kelly is right… you’re not telling us everything. Spill it girly!” Val agreed with Kelly.
“Please Lei… We swear we won’t say anything to anyone…” Kelly begged as we sat at a table to wait for our drinks.
“Fine.” I sighed heavily knowing that I couldn’t get out of it even if I wanted to, “He kissed me.”
Val and Kelly jumped up screaming excitedly like sisters being told they were going to Disneyland.
“Oh my God! Did you kiss him back? Was it good? Was it all you ever dreamed it would be?!” Kelly drilled.
“Yes I did a little and it was honestly, amazing.” I blushed, “You guys have to promise me you won’t say anything to ANYONE! I wasn’t even supposed to tell you…”
“We promise.” Val said holding out a pinky.
We shook pinkies on it, “So what does that mean? Are you and him like together or something?” Kelly asked.
“No. I kinda pushed him away…” I replied looking at Kelly and Val’s shocked faces.
“What?! Why?! He’s like your biggest crush of all time!” Kelly exclaimed.
“I know but he’s my best friend first and I don’t want to ruin that. Plus, I don’t think I’m really ready for anything romantic like that. I got freaked out when he did something and I just reacted by pushing him away…” I said looking down at the edge of the table.
Val reached out and put her hand on mine, “That’s alright Lei. Zacky will wait for you to be ready. You take all the time you need. It isn’t like we aren’t all going to be trapped on a bus with each other for the next few months.”
“Exactly. Oh I’m so excited that you and him actually made out though! It’s about fucking time honestly…” Kelly said as she got up and got her drink.
Val and I followed her up and grabbed our drinks, walking back towards our gate, lightly chatting about what happened between me and Zacky. Seeing the guys all seated together caused me to panic a little that Val and Kelly would give away my secret.
“Please just act like I told you nothing. I made Zacky promise not to tell anyone either. Please just act like everything is normal.” I pleaded with them.
“Don’t worry Lei baby… we got this. Not a word. Your secret is safe with us.” She said zipping her lips.
We went over to meet the guys, Val taking a seat next to my brother, Kelly sitting on Brian’s lap. I stood there for a minute with my hot coffee warming my hands, deciding where I wanted to sit. I opted to sit by the window on the large ledge that I assumed was for people to set their bags on.
I looked out the window at the mountainside, as I quietly sipped my coffee, thinking about how I would miss this place so much, but my opportunities would be much better in California.
“I can’t believe you’re drinking coffee right now…” Zacky said, sitting down next to me on the ledge.
“Why? I’ll sleep still. I have to take another one of those pills anyways…” I said taking another sip.
“What are you drinking anyways? It’s probably full of sugar isn’t it?” he said taking it from me and drinking some.
“Hey!” I playfully stared him down, reaching out for it back, “If you’re gonna knock it then go get your own!”
He laughed holding it away from me, “It’s good though. I might have to keep it.”
“Zee! Give it back!” I whined, earning more giggling from behind us.
I turned to see Val and Kelly looking at each other giggling. I glared at them to stop.
Dammit. Those two are gonna get us busted. That is the last time I tell those two anything!
“What’s the magic word?” Zacky teased.
“Please…” I replied.
“Please what?”
“Please Zacky boy… I want my coffee.” I said pouting.
“Awwww…. Don’t pout little Lei girl…” he said squeezing my cheeks with his fingers as he handed it back.
“Thank you.” I replied smiling at him before turning my attention back to the window.
“You still excited to go? Now that we’re down to the wire…” He asked.
“Yeah. I have high hopes for California. I’ll get to see my dad more and actually get to know him, my sister, and my step-mom.” I answered.
“Good. I want you to be happy.” He smiled leaning over and nudging me with his shoulder.
“It’s gonna be different, but good.” I said smiling back at him.
“You look so pretty when you smile.” He said quietly to me.
“Zee… don’t.” I whispered back, feeling my face blush.
“Oh, yeah… you’re right. Sorry. I mean it though…” He answered softly looking over his shoulder at Matt.
Matt had a stern look on his face that I knew wasn’t anything to be messed with just before a 6 hour flight. I turned back to Zacky, our eyes locking for a few moments as the flight attendant announced they would be boarding our flight soon.
“Well, thank you I guess.” I replied breaking eye contact and looking down at the ugly carpeted ledge.
“Come on you… you gonna sit with me on the plane?” Zacky asked putting his arm around my shoulders as we stood up grabbing our carry-on bags.
“I want to but I don’t know how a certain someone is gonna feel about that. I have a feeling he’s gonna make sure we don’t.” I said quietly nodding towards Matt.
“Ah. I see… yeah, that might be a problem…” he said as we got in line behind Brian and Kelly.
“Lei, you sit with Jimmy and Johnny in one of the middle aisles. Zacky, Brian, and Kelly have one side and Val and I are on the other side. We have a full row.” Matt said, killing any hopes of sitting with Zacky.
“See… saw that one coming from a mile away…” I said to Zacky under my breath.
He chuckled, “It’s okay. We tried right? At least you don’t have to sit with Mr. Grumpy.”
“What was that Vengeance?” Matt declared from right behind us.
“Nothing, M.” He said slightly annoyed, probably that my brother was trying to listen to our conversation.
We all got onto the plane taking our seats, me choosing to sit between Johnny and Jimmy so I could lean on either one of them if I wanted. Kelly putting up a fight with Brian and Zacky, made Zacky sit at the window so she wouldn’t have to look out at it. Knowing her it was better for her to be on the aisle because she always had to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes when we were in a plane. Matt and Val sat closer to the aisle, letting a young girl who was probably 15 sit by the window. She didn't realize who was sitting by her until Matt took his sunglasses off, and when he took them off, I saw her face flush red. I giggled as I watched her quietly freak out, desperately trying not to draw attention to herself.
“Hey Matt... Come here real fast.” I said across the row to him before everyone was seated.
He came closer, “What's wrong? Don't tell me you want to move seats...”
“No. The girl sitting next to you is losing her mind over there. She just recognized you and is trying so hard not to freak out but I don't think she's going to make it the 6 hours... Maybe you could be nice and talk to her or give her an autograph or something. She seems like a big fan...” I told him.
He peered back over his shoulder and looked at the girl who quickly turned away, “Yeah, I think you're right sis. Don't worry about it. I love meeting our fans and I love to make their day.” he smiled.
I nodded as he made his way back over to his seat between Val and the girl. I fished thru my bag looking for my earphones, but couldn’t find them. Frustrated, I sat back in my seat thinking what I was going to do for 6 hours with no music to lull me to sleep. My brother’s little star struck neighbor seemed to be pretty interesting to watch for now. I leaned forward to watch the spectacle.
“My sister over there noticed you and said you must be a fan. I’m Matt, but I’m sure you knew that.” Matt said as he shook the blushing girl’s hand.
“Oh my God… I was trying to not freak out. I’m sorry… I love your music. I’m such a big fan… I can’t believe I’m sitting next to ‘The M. Shadows…” she said excitedly.
“What’s your name sweetie?” Matt asked her with a big smile, flashing those dimples that made girls swoon.
“Allison.” She said blushing deeper at his nice gesture.
“It’s very nice to meet you Allison. Heading to California?” He asked making small talk with her.
I leaned back in my seat, the effects of my pain meds wearing off, I nudged Jimmy.
“Can you ask Matt for my pills please?”
“Here little Lei-Lei…” he replied pulling 2 out of his pocket and handing them to me, “He gave me some for you before we got on the plane.”
I thanked him before taking them both with the rest of my coffee. I looked down the row towards Kelly, Brian, and Zacky. Zacky looked pretty grumpy sitting on the end staring out the window. Brian looked like he was going to pass out on either Kelly or Zacky the way he was leaning back in the seat. Kelly flashed me a thumbs up as the flight attendant came on saying the usual security announcements. I glanced over at Johnny and poked his nose with my finger.
“Hey.” He said sticking his tongue out at me.
I giggled, “Johnny, I might fall asleep on you. I’m just warning you now.”
“I have been warned. It’s fine if you do… I’m probably going to pass out too. I had a lot of alcohol before we got on this plane…” he said slurring a little.
I laughed a little before turning to Jimmy, who shockingly was already looking down at me as the plane started to take off.
“You ready for this?” he asked me genuinely concerned.
I swallowed hard, attempting to hold back the tears already welling up in my eyes, “Yeah. I have great people with me. It will be good…”
He leaned down closer to me, whispering, “It’s okay to cry. Come here little one.”
He pulled the middle arm rest up between us two, putting an arm around my shoulders and hugging me to his side. I wrapped my arms around his skinny torso and let my tears fall silently onto his shirt. He rubbed my arm lightly trying to soothe me as I pulled my legs up, curling onto the seat. I felt another hand rubbing on the calf of my leg and looked over with tears spilling to see Johnny with a weak smile trying to comfort me as well. I smiled back the best I could muster, before burying my face into Jimmy’s side again. He stroked my head, brushing my hair from my face as I let the pain meds and my sadness take over and cried myself to sleep.

He peered back over his shoulder and looked at the girl who quickly turned away, “Yeah, I think you're right sis. Don't worry about it. I love meeting our fans and I love to make their day.” he smiled.
I nodded as he made his way back over to his seat between Val and the girl. I fished thru my bag looking for my earphones, but couldn’t find them. Frustrated, I sat back in my seat thinking what I was going to do for 6 hours with no music to lull me to sleep. My brother’s little star struck neighbor seemed to be pretty interesting to watch for now. I leaned forward to watch the spectacle.
“My sister over there noticed you and said you must be a fan. I’m Matt, but I’m sure you knew that.” Matt said as he shook the blushing girl’s hand.
“Oh my God… I was trying to not freak out. I’m sorry… I love your music. I’m such a big fan… I can’t believe I’m sitting next to ‘The M. Shadows…” she said excitedly.
“What’s your name sweetie?” Matt asked her with a big smile, flashing those dimples that made girls swoon.
“Allison.” She said blushing deeper at his nice gesture.
“It’s very nice to meet you Allison. Heading to California?” He asked making small talk with her.
I leaned back in my seat, the effects of my pain meds wearing off, I nudged Jimmy.
“Can you ask Matt for my pills please?”
“Here little Lei-Lei…” he replied pulling 2 out of his pocket and handing them to me, “He gave me some for you before we got on the plane.”
I thanked him before taking them both with the rest of my coffee. I looked down the row towards Kelly, Brian, and Zacky. Zacky looked pretty grumpy sitting on the end staring out the window. Brian looked like he was going to pass out on either Kelly or Zacky the way he was leaning back in the seat. Kelly flashed me a thumbs up as the flight attendant came on saying the usual security announcements. I glanced over at Johnny and poked his nose with my finger.
“Hey.” He said sticking his tongue out at me.
I giggled, “Johnny, I might fall asleep on you. I’m just warning you now.”
“I have been warned. It’s fine if you do… I’m probably going to pass out too. I had a lot of alcohol before we got on this plane…” he said slurring a little.
I laughed a little before turning to Jimmy, who shockingly was already looking down at me as the plane started to take off.
“You ready for this?” he asked me genuinely concerned.
I swallowed hard, attempting to hold back the tears already welling up in my eyes, “Yeah. I have great people with me. It will be good…”
He leaned down closer to me, whispering, “It’s okay to cry. Come here little one.”
He pulled the middle arm rest up between us two, putting an arm around my shoulders and hugging me to his side. I wrapped my arms around his skinny torso and let my tears fall silently onto his shirt. He rubbed my arm lightly trying to soothe me as I pulled my legs up, curling onto the seat. I felt another hand rubbing on the calf of my leg and looked over with tears spilling to see Johnny with a weak smile trying to comfort me as well. I smiled back the best I could muster, before burying my face into Jimmy’s side again. He stroked my head, brushing my hair from my face as I let the pain meds and my sadness take over and cried myself to sleep.

Sorry for such a lack of updates. I have been very busy with the holiday party season and work. Also, there has been a little bit of writer's block. I know what I want to happen, just not sure how to get to that point sometimes... I hope you guys enjoy this chapter. It was kinda difficult for me, bringing back lots of memories as a kid coming home to Maui and leaving, my mother and I balling our eyes out on the way back to the mainland. I'm thankful everyday that we were able to come back home to Maui and stay. Hopefully, I will be able to get some more writing done during Christmas and be able to send out another update this weekend. If not, sorry and please stay tuned! Mahalo for your comments and votes!!
