*~*Zacky’s POV*~*

I slipped my phone back into my pocket after replying to Brian. It was nice of him to check in with me to see how I’m holding up. I went back to the magazine I was reading to Kamalei. They say that even when someone is in a coma they can hear you so I figured why not.

I looked up at her face and tears began to well up in my eyes. She was still so bruised but at least the swelling had gone down. Her eyes were both black now and it reminded me of my own black eyed adventures on tour. I reached out and held her hand in my tattooed ones. Her nails were once painted black but it had been chipped away. I wondered if they would let her have them painted again when she came to.

“Oh my little clumsy party girl, how I wish you would wake up and call me your Zacky boy…” I said quietly as I stroked her hand.

“My Zacky boy…” she barely whispered.

My eyes shot up to her and hers were fluttering open. I stood tossing the magazine to the floor, leaning over the bed.

“Kamalei?” I asked.

“My Zacky boy…..is that really you?” she said weakly, “Am I dead? Am I dreaming?”

“No you aren’t dreaming and you aren’t dead silly. I’m really here.” I said as I sat on the edge of the bed.

“Where am I?” she asked me.

“You’re in the hospital. We came to surprise you and you ended up surprising us…” I said holding her hand in mine.

“What? What do you mean? Where is everyone? Where’s Micah?” she asked and I felt my blood start to boil at the sound of his name.

Why would you even care where that lowlife is?! Hopefully in a gutter having his eyes picked out by birds.

“Well Lei, you have been here for about 4 days now. Your mom took everyone to the beach today to try to cheer them up…”

“WHAT?! My mother! Ugh.” She said angrily. “Why didn’t you go with them?”

“I wanted to be with you.” I said as I felt my face heat up and I was sure I was blushing.

“Oh. You gave up the beach to be here with me?” she questioned.

“I promised you I wouldn’t go without you. I wasn’t going to break our promise.” I said looking up at her again.

“Awww. My Zacky boy. Come here and give me a hug.” She said holding her arms out.

I scooted up on the bed and held her to my chest. I missed this. I missed her and all her charms.

“I missed you Lei.” I whispered in her ear.

“I missed you too Zee.” She whispered back sending shivers down my spine, “So what happened to me?” she asked as we broke apart.

“Well we got off the plane and Kelly had been blowing up all of our phones saying that she couldn’t find you. Do you remember anything from the night of the party?”

“Not really. I remember the after party and… oh God! THE VIDEOS! Zacky tell me you didn’t show Matt!” she said scared.

“Are you fucking crazy?! Of course I didn’t. Only Brian and I know about those.” I reassured her. “Do you remember anything else?”

“I remember Micah called me and annoyed me. I remember he came and picked me up and Kelly didn’t want me to go but I did. Micah took us home I think. He was yelling at me the whole ride home about me being drunk and high. I remember going into the house and then something hit me hard in the back of the head and that’s all I remember.” She said looking at me quizzically.

“Well, Kelly picked us up in a panic and we went back to your house. Jimmy saw the light on thru the window and me and Brian jumped thru the window and let everyone in. We found you in the bathtub. You had needles sticking out of you and you were really beat up Lei. Like a lot worse than you are now. Your clothes were torn up, bloody and your pants were missing. You were covered in blood.” I said getting choked up.

“Zee. Look at me.” She said tipping my chin up, making me look at her, “It’s alright my little Zacky boy. Tell me.”

I shook my head a little, “Kamalei, I was so mad. I still am. I don’t ever want to see you like that again.” I said before I couldn’t hold it in and let the tears flow.

I put my head down on her hand and cried. She pulled her hand away from me and stroked my hair, “Zacky it’s alright. I’m alright now. Come up here and lay with me.”

She pulled my hand and scooted over making space for me. I slid onto the bed and wrapped my arm around her.

“Does that hurt? I don’t want to hurt you Lei. Your body is so bruised.” I told her.

“It’s fine Zee. I’ll heal. I always do. I just don’t want you to be sad okay. Who’s going to cheer me up if you’re sad?” she said.

“I just don’t want to see you hurt ever again. I care about you so much.” I said scared to say too much.

I promised Matt I would let her deal with her own stuff before I added the possibility of us to the table.

“My sweet sweet Zacky boy.” She said as she snuggled against my chest. “Tell me what happened to me. I obviously broke some stuff but that’s nothing new to me.”

“You were drugged really bad. Brian and I know the cocaine and alcohol was you but Micah must have tried to kill you with shooting you full of heroin. The doctor told us if we didn’t find you, you would have been dead within an hour. You have 6 broken ribs, your hand has been broken for a long time, your leg is broken, you have the blow to the back of your head and a huge gash on your forehead. Your whole body looks like a big bruise Lei. Your legs are pretty much black and blue too.” I told her leaving off the part no one wanted to tell her.

She pulled the covers up and looked inside letting a small gasp escape. I peeked over to look too.

“Hey! No peeking Mr. Baker.” She said jokingly.

“Sorry.” I laughed. “Oh shit! I gotta let the guys know you woke up. They will be so happy.” I said reaching into my pocket to dig out my phone.

“Oh will they now? I’m sure the beach is more fun. Why don’t you just let them enjoy the beach a bit longer and let’s just hang out? We can watch tv.” She said as she grabbed my phone from me setting it on her lap and reaching for the remote.

“Do you want something to drink or something? Shouldn’t we call a nurse or something?” I asked.

“Yeah. I’ll push the button.” She said pushing the button.

The nurse came in soon after, “Excuse me sir, you can’t be in the bed.” She scolded me.

I jumped up and sat in the chair nearby as she checked Lei’s vitals and IV’s.

“The doctor will be around to talk to you in a little while. Is there anything we can get you for your pain?” the nurse asked.

“Yes please. My ribs and my leg hurt a lot. Maybe some water too please?”

“Alright, I’ll check what you can have for the pain and I’ll be right back.” She said as she left.
The nurse came back with a small box that she attached to the IV pole and a pitcher of ice water.

“Ok Ms. Sanders, this is a morphine drip. It will give you a small amount over a period of time that will help with the constant pain so that you can rest.” She explained as she locked it onto the pole.

“Wow. You have a key for that thing?” I asked.

“Yes, that way it can’t be misused or stolen. Pain medication addiction is a real problem.” She said as she finished and left.

“Crazy. Come here and cuddle me again Zee.” Lei said patting the spot next to her.

I climbed back in the bed with her getting back to our comfortable position.

“So you didn’t answer me, where’s Micah?” she looked up at me and asked.

I clenched my teeth and my fist, trying to not let my anger get the best of me, “The police can’t find him.”

“Oh.” She said. “What did Matt say?”

“We have collectively agreed that we are going to murder him. We are gonna find him and make him pay for hurting you. I’m going to fucking rip his throat out.” I said shaking.

“Zee. Calm down… It’s alright.” She said trying to soothe me.

“No Lei. It’s not alright. What he did to you is unforgivable. How dare he try to take what is most precious to me.” I blurted out not realizing what I said.

She looked at me strangely for a minute, blushing, before brushing off what I had said, “Zacky. I’m ok. I know you guys will catch him. It’s a small island he can’t run far.”

“I know we will Lei. They don’t call me Zacky Vengeance for no reason…” I smirked at her.

“That’s better my Zacky boy. I needed a smirk. Can I get a smile from you?” she said as she tickled my side.

I laughed and smiled big at her, “There. Happy now?”

“Yeah. I am happy now. I’m glad you were here Zee.” She said snuggling closer to me, “Thank you.”

“Anything and anytime Lei.” I said as we watched the tv.

I had texted Matt an hour ago that his sister had woken up. He had said they were cleaning up and would be here within an hour or so. Kamalei was putting up a show that she wasn’t hurting as much, but I could tell she was. She wanted to get up and roam the halls, but when she shifted in the bed to try to swing her legs over, I could tell she was hurt much more than she was leading on about. I had gone down to the gift shop and found some black nail polish and some flowers for her.

I walked into the room where she was seated pouting at the tv screen, flipping thru the channels.

“Zacky! What are those for?” she squealed as I set the flowers down on the table.

“They’re for you Lei. Something pretty to look at while you’re here.” I said walking to the chair nearby.

“I have something pretty to look at already.” She said looking at me before sticking her tongue out at me.

“I’m not pretty. I’m a guy. We don’t do pretty.” I said sticking my tongue out back at her.

“Hahaha. My Zacky boy you’re funny. Thank you though, they're beautiful. Did you get the nail polish?” she asked.

“Yeah. Scoot over and I can hook you up.” I said sliding into the bed with her.

She set her free hand on my thigh and I could feel myself get a little excited. I grabbed her hand in mine as I started to paint her fingers. She was telling me about all the fun parts of the concert with Kelly as I finished up her fingers and moved on to her toes. I moved down on the bed towards the bottom, since she couldn’t bend it, and was painting her toes in the cast when everyone came.

“MY BABY LEI-LEI!!!” Jimmy yelled as he came in thru the door.

“Shhh Jimmy. They’re gonna kick you out.” Lei said opening her arms to him, “Don’t touch my fingers. They’re still wet.”

“Look at Zacky being the bitch we all knew he was…” Brian said teasing me.

I flipped him off, “Whatever Syn.” I said as I continued painting Lei’s toes.

“Zack what the hell are you doing?” Matt asked me as I looked up at him.

“He’s painting my toes for me. I obviously can’t do it.” Kamalei said to him as he leaned down to hug his sister.

“Are you feeling ok?” Matt asked her.

“I’m fine. I feel great…” she said.

“She’s got a morphine drip.” I chimed in.

“Oh, I bet you feel fabulous then.” Val joked. “I love those things… I almost wish I got hurt more so I could have one too.”

“Zee. Can I talk to you for a minute?” Matt asked me.

I closed up the nail polish and set it on the table. I turned and looked at Lei and she gave me a curious look. I shrugged my shoulders as I followed Matt out into the hall.

“What’s up?” I asked.

“Did you tell her? I mean did you tell her about the baby?”

“No. I just told her about her broken bones and stuff. The doctor is supposed to be coming to talk to her soon.” I replied.

“Does she remember anything?” he asked me.

“The last thing she said she remembers from that night is Micah took them home and was yelling at her the whole ride home before she got in the house she said something hit her in the back of the head hard. That’s it. She asked about that asshole too. I don’t know why. I told her the police couldn’t find him but that we would.”

“Damn right we will. I’ll fucking kill him.” Matt said as we watched the doctor come down the hall.

“Ah, Mr. Sanders, I hear your sister has awoken. I was just on my way in to talk to her. It’s up to her if she wants you all to hear what her diagnosis is.” The doctor said.

“I understand.” Matt said as we followed him into the room.
