(Love) Contract

Tara’s POV

My mouth was hanging open and I couldn’t process what Brian just told me.
They were best friends and Matt and Brian’s girl… I mean.. ex… but still… I got sick at the thought.
“Did he never hear anything about the Bro-Code?” I asked Brain which made him chuckle a little.
“I guess he did. But that wasn’t obvious to me at the time…” Brian smiled sadly and seemed to zoom out again, he got this far away look on his face and I knew I should better just listen.

“I didn’t go to any band meetings, and I didn’t see Michelle after her confession again. I thought about calling Matt and asking if he was happy now, if he got what he wanted… but I couldn’t bring myself to it, you know… He was still my friend… and I couldn’t change feelings, could I? Maybe I am thinking like this now, but it had hurt so bad, knowing your long term girlfriend was with your best friend now…”Brian stopped and I waited for him to continue but he didn’t.
“Brian?” I asked stroked his cheek and he looked at me with a small smile.
“Sorry, I.. well.. okay, since I didn’t show up to any meeting, I had Jimmy soon standing at my door. He tried to call me, he had been here before, but I refused to answer any calls… Anyway, so after a week or something, he went to my father to get the spare key of my house, he broke into my house, that fucker… Damn, he dragged me out of bed and made me tell him what happened.”
“Oh, but that was good. Jimmy is really protective of you he seems like an amazing friend. You shouldn’t have shut him out.” I told him with a smile, that was why Jimmy was also the suspicious one when it came to her, he had been with Brian through a lot since Jimmy was the only one to know all this…
“I know that… but at the time I didn’t want to see anything or anyone… I packed up Michelle’s stuff, I couldn’t stand having anything from her in my house… I packed all the shit up, everything I ever got from her, or we bought together, all the shit…”
“..Except the ring” I added and he nodded.
“Right, except the ring. I kept this as a reminder, to not let me be fooled again, to not let this happened again, you know… Alright, so Jimmy was in my home, he made me talk, what he didn’t tell me was, that he knew everything… Michelle and Val, they both had been close friends with Jimmy… And he… Jimmy is weird sometimes, he has this sense for different kind of things… So before he had talked to me, or after he tried to talk to me but I refused, he seeks information from the other part, which was Michelle…”

“He knew everything? And he didn’t come to you earlier? Wow… I mean.. did he at least talk to Matt, he should have talked to him, this sucks… you can’t just… wow.. This could have broken up everything, I mean not only your relationship, I mean your band… Brian how could you stand him?” I really couldn’t believe it…
“Let me finish before you decide on a side, alright? Maybe you will think I overreact, maybe you will think the same I do… I just can’t get that scene out of my head, her leaving with him… my best friend… my love… anyway…” Brian shook his head and pulled me against his body again, he stroked my hair, it seemed to calm him down, so I let him.

Brian’s POV

“Jimmy told me after I confessed everything that he talked to Michelle that it wasn’t like it looked like…”
“What? How can it not be like that? He picked her up, from your freaking home…I mean.. what is there not to understand?” Tara sounded shocked and I smiled and kissed the top of her head.
“Thank you, but Jimmy was right… He went to Michelle and told me that Michelle said the same to him… she said that she couldn’t be with me anymore, because the feelings weren’t the same, that she only spent time with me these last weeks, because she wanted to spent time with someone else, guess who?”
“Matt…” Tara whispered.
“Right” I confirmed “She was always calling the whole group, wanting to go out, coming with me on tour, not because I was there, not because we were spending time together, because she wanted to be close to Matt, because she was already in love with him.”
“Jimmy told you all this?” Tara asked astonished.
“Yeah, Jimmy… is very open and he wanted me to know everything, I was glad about it, even if some of the information made this hurt even more.” I said and remembered scene from the last tour where I was so happy that Michelle was with me, but now, everything was tinted with the thought, she didn’t spent that time with me because she loved me, because she was my girl… she had been there because of Matt.

“You know, Matt… He is a nice guy, he is a great friend, normally, but sometimes he is not the fastest to understand things… He was always nice to everyone around, he is down to earth, he loves to meet fans, and he is laughing a lot… Women feel safe with him, women love him.. I don’t know why, that’s just how it is… and Matt he doesn’t want to take advantage of this… I think he doesn’t even realize how women react to him… He acted around Michelle, like he acted around any of the other girls we had with us. But sometimes, he doesn’t seem to get, when a girl is very into him, like Michelle must have been, he was making jokes, he was patting her thigh, he was… kissing her cheek… when I think about all that happened, I have never seen it bad, because that’s just how it is, but some women take this more serious and fall in love… I know I can’t really blame Matt… Jimmy made sure, that Matt wasn’t aware of the face that Michelle had fallen for him… but in my brain there is only this picture of him leaving with Michelle, hugging her… how could he not know what happened between us, how could he not call me and ask what happened? He did call, but it had nothing to do with Michelle and me, so how could I not think that something must have happened between these two…”
I sighed, I might not be fair towards Matt in my explaining, but still… something had been going on in the end, and he never really talked to me about it…
He was my friend he should have!

“Brian, do you want to go eat some breakfast, you seem so pale again?” Tara stroked my cheek and I nodded.
“Yes, I think… I should eat something. But let me just end this…” I was glad for the interruption, all this memories, weren’t easy to share but I felt a little better now, so I had to end it properly.
“Do you understand why Matt and I are sometimes a little… strange… we both know something has happened, but we never really talked it out, because honestly, I don’t wanna know it now. I tried to come to terms with this, Jimmy told me that Michelle said, she never made a move on Matt, when we were still in a relationship, so that was a little relief for me… but… what happened afterwards, I don’t know. I have never seen Matt and Michelle together, when we had parties or meetings, but that doesn’t mean that there was nothing… but yeah.. that’s about it…” I finished and looked at Tara.
“I’m so sorry Brian. That is just… fucked up. I totally understand why you still feel some tension towards Matt… but maybe you should have talked to him afterwards… I mean you are spending a hell of a lot time with him so close… don’t you… you know.. wanna know what really happened and if… you should beat his ass for that, even if it wasn’t really his fault.. or that’s what it sounds like. Is he not aware that he did you bad?! I mean.. he should know!” I chuckled and loved how Tara reacted, it could have been completely different… which reminded me just too much of the past and this time I was glad that Tara was on my side… not on Matt’s.
“Damn Tara, I am so glad that you are here… that you listened to me.” I grabbed her cheeks and kissed her.
I knew I shouldn’t and that we were not playing any part of our roles now, that’s why it felt so much better…
She opened up to me but when I deepened the kiss even more, she put her hand on my chest to pull away.
“Come on, let’s get you something to eat and then we unravel my past?” She cringed and smiled at the same time which made me laugh loudly.
“Sounds only fair…” I smiled and we went together outside, as bad as the morning started, it could only get better from now on…
