Life's a Game, but it's Not Fair

Twenty

Matt couldn’t sit in the mansion at all. There was too much of Reagan everywhere.

Plus, allies were coming in from all over the area to aid in the search and he heard scenario after scenario about the woman he was in love with said over and over.

Without thinking, he grabbed his keys and raced for the garage. A few men tried to run after him, but Brian held up his hand, “let him go.”

He hopped in his Mustang and peeled out of the driveway.

He had only been on the road when he saw a familiar white BMW coming in his direction.

He rolled his window down to wave at Blair, but sensed something was wrong as she slammed on her breaks.

“Matt!” she cried frantically, “someone’s chasing me!”

He didn’t hesitate, he whipped his car around.

“Drive to the house Blair,” He ordered, “I’ll stay right behind you.”

Blair knew what her best friend’s family was involved in. Her father was a large supporter of Master Gates’s establishment and often gave him monetary support since he had so much to give. But she had known Gates and the others since she was 10 and they had always treated her as their own.

She had met Reagan Haner on the playground in 4th grade. Becky Swogger (yes that was her last name) had harassed Blair all day about putting almond butter on her apple slices and not peanut butter. Reagan had jumped in and said that she liked almond butter on her apples too and that if Becky said another word Reagan would call her “giant uncles” who would beat her up.

Reagan had gotten her name written on the board for the threat and Blair’s loyalty for the rest of her life.

Seeing the massive gate that led to the Avenged estate, Blair turned left. Matt had already called Jimmy to have the gate open as they approached. She gunned her BMW down the long lane, Matt’s car followed behind.

As she pulled in front of the house to her normal parking spot for visits, she was shocked to see the amount of tough looking men around the grounds. Blair had been raised Catholic, but not strictly. At that moment, she sent up a prayer saying thanks for her safety and asked for her best friend to be brought home safe.

Matt pulled up next to her and got out.

“Just to be safe stay close to me and don’t look anyone in the eye unless it’s one of us,” he murmured “I’m going to take you to Gates quickly and then we’ll get you home.”

Blair kept her eyes downcast on the ground as she walked. It seemed that no one paid her any mind but she assumed it was probably because she was directly behind her best friend’s hulking boyfriend.

When they reached the massive French doors to Master Gates’ office, Matt knocked once and opened the door.

Reagan’s father sat behind his massive black wood desk, but leaped up when the pair entered the room.

Brian was a terrifying looking person to a stranger, but Blair felt the greatest sense of relief staring at the huge tattooed man and rushed to hug him tight.

“You’re alright Blair? Jimmy said someone was following you?”

Blair nodded, “I went shopping on Rodeo, just to clear my head because everything with Reagan-“

She burst into tears, the events of the day finally hitting her.

Brian sat her in a chair and Matt grabbed tissues for her.

“I noticed a guy out of the corner of my eye in one of the shops, but thought nothing of it, then I noticed him pop up again and again. Finally, something told me to take my pepper spray out of my bag and rush to my car. I kind of zig zagged as I went but he kept up. I was able to cross the street and jump in my car. I wanted to get him off my tail so I was going to drive all over the neighborhood, but I was going to call someone here for help. Good thing I wound up running into Matt.”

As Blair told her story, the other guys from Avenged had entered the room.

“Did you happen to recognize him kiddo?” Johnny asked gently

She shook her head “He had dark sunglasses and dark clothes on. I forgot about how he looked because I just wanted to get away.”

The guys all nodded understandingly.

“I’ll try to hack into the traffic cameras Gates,” Jimmy said, “what kind of car was following you?”

“A white Jaguar. It honestly looked like the one Kappie has.”

Blair didn’t know Kappie’s part in the story, but the guys glanced quickly at one another.
“Rev, Vengeance,” Brian’s voice snapped everyone from their racing thoughts.

“One of you drive Blair’s car, the other one will drive Blair in an Escalade home. Post someone on her street for the next few days. Blair please text any of us if you need anything.”

Blair nodded and stood to leave. Jimmy and Zacky followed her outside.

Brian sat back down, his head in his hands.

“Taking my daughter was one thing, but someone else’s child? These fuckers need to be found.”

“Gates the Jaguar,” Matt began “do you think-“

But Brian held up his hand, “Shadows I can’t think about that right now, I just want my daughter back and I know you do too. Christ please go grab Tuck for me, I want to go over a few things before he sends his men out tonight for any possible information.”

As Johnny left, Brian looked Matt in the eye.

“Yes Shadows I do think the Jaguar was significant. I don’t know for sure if it was Kappie’s or not, but what I do know is getting Reagan back safe is my priority. If we find Kappie when we find my daughter; I will decide what to do. I was merciful to her father but I promise you I will not be merciful to her.”
