Life's a Game, but it's Not Fair

Twenty One

Kappie felt sick to her stomach.

She needed to see Reagan.

But in order for her to do that she had to-

She shut her eyes and curled up into a ball, the tears pricking the backs of her eyelids.

She stood up, wiped her eyes and took a deep breath. She walked to the door of her room and knocked three times.

4 minutes passed before Joel stuck his head in the doorway.

“Evening beautiful,” he murmured “I’ve been thinking about you all day.”

Once again her stomach lurched.

After Reagan had been told the truth, Aria had told Joel to do as he liked with Kappie. He had done just that.

Since then, Kappie became what she had feared the Avenged men would make her 19 years ago.

But now, she had to swallow that fear. She had to for Reagan.

“What would it take to let me see Reagan?”

Grinning, Joel unbuttoned his pants and wordlessly pushed Kappie to her knees.

8 minutes later, he finished and it took everything in her not to throw up on his expensive shoes.

“Brush your teeth. Then you can see her.”

Reagan sat in the massive kitchen, picking at the BLT in front of her.

“You need to eat kiddo”

Reagan smiled up at Sal the chef.

Sal had been very kind to her when he had found her in his kitchen sobbing at the beginning of the week. She had been shocked to see him, for he had been the man she had helped at the bar the night of her club opening. It had made sense that Aria would send someone Avenged did not know to see what her daughter was up to.

Despite all this, Sal took pity on the young girl and took her under his wing. He had taught her a few cooking skills and always looked out for her in place of the Good Charlotte thugs. His presence made her feel safe, but also made her miss all her boys back home.

“Sal do you think I’d be allowed to see Kappie if I asked Aria?”

The bigger man folded his arms together in thought.

“I believe so. If that’s what you want Reagan, but I won’t make you any promises.”

She sighed and picked up her plate, “Thanks Sal, I’m going to eat this in my room and debate having to see Aria.”

“Goodnight Reagan.”

Reagan retired to her room (she still hated calling it that) and turned on The Silence of the Lambs, her favorite movie to watch with the guys. As Hannibal Lecter was escaping, Joel threw open the door and stuck his head in.

“Don’t you ever knock? It’s called common fucking courtesy asshole,” she snapped

Joel smirked and sauntered in

“Temper, temper little Reagan. You might get punished for speaking like that. Now get up you’re going to visit someone.”

So perhaps she was going to see Aria after all.

She stood and with her head held high, followed him from the room.

Kappie sat on her bed reading a book when the door flew open.

“15 minutes,” Joel said throwing Reagan into the room. “I’ll be right outside.”

Kappie rushed to the floor and held Reagan in her arms.

“Reags are you okay? Have they hurt you? I’m so sorry little one I’m so sorry” she cried.

Reagan, relieved to see her caretaker alive wrapped her arms fiercely around Kappie’s waist.

“Kappie I’m so afraid,” she whispered

“Listen to me,” Kappie whispered “you are a Haner. You are strong and stubborn and cannot and will not be broken.”

Tears welled up in Reagan’s eyes and she nodded.

“I got you here, Reagan Juliet and I swear I am going to get you out.”

Joel threw the door open again.

“Times up Cinderella,” he said grabbing Reagan by her upper arm and dragging her back.

She wrestled herself out of his grip to hug Kappie one last time.

“I love you,” she whispered in her ear “and we’ll get out together.”
