Strong drink

Zack’s POV

Something was wrong, I knew it… I might have known it all along… but didn’t want to see it.
I don’t know.
I would wait until this evening, see what will happen then…
Then I will make my decision, but each night and each past day made me think about it more and more.

Only a couple of more hours and we would all be having fun at the club, or at least that’s what was planned, I didn’t feel like party at all.
“What’s wrong?” Alicia’s voice sounded behind me and I turned towards her, she must have come home a couple of minutes ago without me noticing.
“Nothing.” I tried to smile but I knew I failed.
“Zack, do you remember, when we agreed on trying, that we said we would be honest with each other?” Alicia asked and put her hand on my shoulder and I closed my eyes.
“Yes, I remember.” I knew she wanted me to tell her what was on my mind but I had to break that promise, I couldn’t tell her now… It would be enough if I had to tell her later… I needed a little more time.
And wished she would be honest as well, I knew something was distracting her and I also knew what this was about but that made things only worse for me…
“It’s nothing, I’m a little exhausted, will take a nap before we will go out tonight.” I stood up kissed her cheek and without waiting for her reply I went to my bedroom and laid down, trying to sleep, but sleep didn’t find me…

After one hour of staring at the clock, I got back up again and I heard the shower running, Alicia was preparing herself for our party night.
I should also get ready and search for clothes to wear and for the mood, maybe I would find something at least…

Alicia and I were ready, she looked beautiful as ever, wearing a dress in black, showing some leg and put on some high-heels that made her nearly as tall as me, but I liked that.
We stood outside the club waiting for the others to meet, it was not crowded yet, but Brian had reserved us a table in the back anyway so we wouldn’t have a problem with space.
I saw Brian and Chelle together with Val walking towards us, oh this would be interesting when Matt and Val would be here together after he broke up… again.
Next were Matt accompanied from Arin and Johnny with their significant others, after all the hugging and welcoming was done, Brian went in first with the rest of us following behind.

Matt’s POV

I dreaded this evening the whole time, how should I react should I really talk to them?
Was Johnny right?
I had thought about everything and I didn’t know what was right and what was wrong…
I knew I wanted to be with Alicia and I knew I didn’t want to hurt my friend.

I planned on seeing how the evening was going maybe watch them together, see how I felt when they were together, but I didn’t need to seem them to know how much I hated it.
And when we arrived here and Zack had his arm around Alicia’s waist, I wish I could just turn around and head into the other direction again…
“Talk to him.” I heard Johnny’s voice behind me.
“Shut up.” I snapped back.
I saw Val looking at me and I smiled at her but she turned away, she needed more time, but I didn’t know why she came along, maybe Chelle wanted to bring her to other thoughts, wasn’t working…
Like me and Alicia… wasn’t working either.

The first two hours we sat there, drinking and talking no one really leaving the table and even if I thought it was still a little awkward, it was okay.
As long as my eye’s didn’t move towards Val’s or Alicia and Zack’s direction it was going good.
When we all had a few drinks some moved to the dance floor and I found myself alone with Alicia and Zack and Arin sitting there.
I saw Zack staring at me, had noticed that a couple of times today but didn’t really know why.
I didn’t give him any reason to… but when our eyes met the next time he leaned towards Alicia kissing her softly or playing with her hair, but he still looked at me and I averted my eyes, why did he do that?

“Hey Arin, let’s get some drinks, shall we?” Zack suddenly said and when Arin nodded the both stood up.
Zack kissed Alicia, not a quick kiss a really long, hungry kiss that made me want to look away again but I couldn’t… which made my temper rising in consequence.
I looked at Alicia, her cheeks were red and she stared after Zack, when he was out of view her eyes met mine.
“Hey.” She said softly.
“Hi…” I got up and moved towards her, sitting only one chair away.
I had to ask her the question that was not letting go of me since I had asked her about it first. “Did you make the test?”
She shook her head then met my eyes “Can we not talk about that here?”
“I thought you would call me… but you didn’t, when else should we talk about it?!”
“Not here, with everyone around.” With that Alicia got up and went to the dance floor.
My eyes glued to her backside swaying until I nearly lost the sight of her.
“Like what you see?” I heard Zack’s voice beside me and snapped my head to him.
“What?”
“Don’t fool me, Matt.” Zack replied and when I looked at him more closely I saw that he looked exhausted.
“What do you mean?” I tried to sound normal, tried to not let my emotions be shown.
“You are one of my best friends, I know you better. Tell me the truth…” Zack asked sitting down beside me, his eyes also following Alicia’s moves.
“The truth about what?” I played dumb again, and felt even dumber for acting that way.
“Tell me how you really feel for her.” Zack asked and caught me off guard.
“Friends, she is your girl. That’s it.” I shrugged and the words ‘your girl’ left a bad taste in my mouth.
“Oh you wanna be like that? I thought you were my friend and telling the truth, Matt. It’s written all over your face. I can’t believe I didn’t realize it before.” Zack asked, sounding a little pissed by now.
“Like what? What are you talking about?” Damn, he knew… was it that obvious?
“Fine, see how you like this.” He got up and walked towards the dance floor, hugging Alicia from behind, kissing her shoulder and throat until he turned her around in his arms and their lips met, I needed to look away.
Why did he do that, if he knew? Did he think he would change anything with that?
I got up and moved to the bar, needed a drink, stronger than the rest…
