Conjuring Her Deepest Fears

Chapter 3

Brian laid Rain back down on the floor and stood up. "Shh. Shut the fuck up. The neighbors will hear you," he said. "What the fuck did you do?" he repeated himself. "I tried...I tried to wake her up. She won't move. She won't fucking budge. What are we gonna do?" Brian asked. "We? What are we gonna do?" Brian knelt down beside his wife and put his face in his hands. He was beginning to panic. "Tell me what happened," Matt demanded. "She...she was leaving me. She said I was out of control and that she wanted to...go to Zacky's..." He started rocking back and forth on the floor. "Matt, I can't go to prison." He stood up again and walked up to Matt. "Man, you have to help me," he said with a shaky voice. "I didn't kill her. You did!" "You have to. Remember when we first started the band? You promised me if I needed anything, you'd be there." "I didn't mean helping you get rid of a fucking corpse!" Matt was both furious and panicking. Brian begged him, "Please. I'll do anything. Just please help me." Matt looked from Rain's body to Brian and back again. "...I'll go pop the trunk."
Brian nodded and ran into the kitchen while Matt walked out of the door. He heard the heavy rain falling as Matt opened the front door. "Hurry," Matt called to him. With shaky hands, Brian opened the kitchen closet and grabbed a large garbage bag. He bolted back into the living room and knelt down next to Rain. Tears began to fall as he stared at her. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "Brian," Matt called. "I'm hurrying," he called back. He lifted Rain's upper body up and pulled the garbage over her head. He then pulled it down so that it came to her ankles. "Come help me," Brian called. Matt jogged into the house and helped Brian lift Rain onto his shoulder. He carried her to the doorway and lost his balance for a moment. "Shit," he said. He carried her out to the car and looked around to see if anyone's lights were on in their houses. No one was awake. Thank God. Brian laid her down in the back of the trunk and slammed it shut, then jumped into the passenger side. Matt got in the car and started the engine. "Wait," Brian said. Matt turned to him. "What?" "I need a shovel." He hopped out and ran to the side of the house to grab the shovel lying on the ground. When he got back in the car, he tossed it into the back seat.
Matt finally pulled out of the drive way and sped down the street. "I can't believe you pulled me into this," Matt said. "I didn't pull you into shit." "You killed your wife and now I have to help you bury her, Syn!" The car swerved a little, but Matt regained control of it. "Would you calm down before you kill us?" Brian shouted. Matt glared at him. "That doesn't sound like such a bad idea!" The car swerved again and Brian grabbed onto his seat. "You're fucking crazy, Matt!" "Oh, sure. I'm the crazy one," Matt shouted back. "Look," Brian said. "Let's just get to the woods, dump the body, and it'll be all over." Matt scoffed. "Yeah, until her family starts asking why she hasn't spoken to them." "Just shut the fuck up and drive! I need to think!"
The rest of the ride was silent until they came upon a wooded area. "Here. Pull over here," Brian said. Matt quickly stopped on the side of the rode and popped the trunk. "We have to hurry before anyone sees us," he told Brian. He nodded and grabbed the shovel, then stepped out of the car into the rain. He opened the trunk and picked up the body and started into the woods while Matt followed.

Brian shoveled while Matt paced back and forth. "This can't be happening," he keep saying quietly to himself. "It can't be happening." "Would you shut up?" Brian asked. "You shut up!" Brian rolled his eyes and kept digging. "I can't believe you killed her...how could you..." "I couldn't help it, okay? I was pissed off and couldn't control myself," Brian snapped. Matt glared at him. "That doesn't give you any right!" Brian quickly turned away and kept digging. "Just stop talking," he said quietly. Matt stood there and watched. The rain seemed to just keep coming down harder. Him and Brian both were soaked.
After what felt like forever, Brian finally crawled out of the hole. "It's done," he said. "Help me get her in there." He grabbed her ankles while Matt grabbed her by the under arms. He wanted to just drop her. Matt didn't even like the feeling of a garbage bag, knowing that a human being was inside. They dropped her into the hole and Brian shoved the dirt on top of her. "This won't take long," he said. After a few minutes, Rain was completely buried. He padded the wet dirt down with the shovel. He turned and stood beside Matt and turned back to the grave. "Suddenly, I don't feel too good," Matt said. "Yeah. Neither do I. Let's get out of here."
They walked back to the car and he sat the shovel in the trunk. After closing it, they got in the car and drove away from the woods and back home.

Brian eagerly took the blood-covered shirt off, glad to have it off of him. He threw it in the washing machine and slammed the lid shut. He felt disgusting. Well, that didn't even begin to explain how he felt. He felt panicked, he felt scared, sick. Angry. He was angry at himself, he as angry at Rain, and for some reason, angry at Matt. If Rain hadn't tried to leave, but if he wasn't so mad at her. If Matt hadn't have walked in, but if he didn't kill her. He just stood there thinking what if? But it's too late to think about that know. His wife was dead. It's too late to try to change his mind. Her voice rang in his head. He remembered when he knelt down beside and said he was sorry, but her voice rang in his head. It's too late to apologize. "I know," he said to himself. "I know."
