Am I too Lost to be Saved?

~Johnny’s Point of View~

There was a scuffle coming from the next room. That’s probably what woke me up then…

I slid out of bed and made my way over to check on Ezra. The door squeaked loudly as I pushed it open. Goddamn it. I really need to fix that! I snuck over to Ezra’s crib just to see him sleeping peacefully, his feet flat on the mattress, knees in the air. His little hands wide open, straight over his head. His lips making little kissing movements in the air.
He’s so fucking beautiful…

A cold draft blew in my face and interrupted my thoughts. The fuck...? The window was wide open, the curtains flowing over the crib, whipping my face softly. I moved behind the crib and slid the window shut, racking my brain trying to remember if I had ever even opened the damn thing. I know for sure that Anna didn’t. She hated opening the window since they didn’t have the stupid screens on them and all the flies would come into the house.

I looked around the room, trying to find anything out of the ordinary and shrugged when there was nothing to be found. I bent over the crib and placed a kiss on Ezra’s forehead before walking back over to the room I now shared with the most beautiful woman in the world. Just as I sat on the bed, my phone began to ring.
‘Dude, it’s like 1:30 in the fucking morning!’
I answered the phone anyway. “Hellooooo?”

“Hey,” Matt’s tired voice said on the other line. “Has Jimmy called you?”
“Nah bro,” I said, rubbing my eyes. “What’s up?”
“Looks like I’m having a cook out tomorrow,” he sighed sleepily. “Jimbo just called saying he was going to bring shit. I think he was like half asleep, but knowing him, he’ll fucking remember. So I was just calling to let you know, dude.”
I laughed, “Fucking Jimmy. Alright. I’ll let Anna know.”
“Okay man. Love you. Night.”
“Haha! Goodnight Matt.”

I laid back down, and pulled Anna to my side, smiling as she turned and sighed and cuddled into my chest.
Let’s just hope fucking Jimmy doesn’t call.

~Matt’s Point of View~
‘Hey, I’m having a get together at my place H. I really hope you can get yourself over here and spend some time with us. We all miss you…’

Even with as angry everyone was with her, including me, I had been trying to get Heaven to come hang out with us. Even though she was being a real big bitch about Anna, she was right to tiny extent. She was our best friend. We couldn’t just kick her to the curb. Regardless of everything in the past. But if she didn’t want to come, she didn’t have to.

I rubbed my neck and sighed. Throwing my phone to the couch and walking to the backyard to start up the grill. They guys would be coming any minute now and I wanted to start the meat before they did so. I started throwing the steaks on the pit and felt a pair of arms snake around my waist.

“You okay, baby,” Val asked quietly. I sighed again. I knew that the topic of Heaven would get her all emotional. She loved the girl! With all her heart! She and Heaven were the best of friends, but when it came to Anna and Meghan, she and Michelle got so protective. It was insane how quickly they all grew so close.

“Yeah babe,” I told her, putting my hand on hers. “Everything’s fine. Fucking Jimmy woke me up at the wrong time last night. Now I’m all tired.”
“Oh that boy,” she laughed. “You know how he is.”
I shook my head. “Man, don’t I know…”

“Hey hoes!” Wow, speak of the Devil.
“Shut up Jimmy.” Meghan slapped his chest, and he jumped back laughing.
“Sure thing babe,” Jimmy giggled, swatting Meghan’s ass hard.
“Don’t start boy,” she warned, pointing a finger at him.
“She’s gonna kick your ass Jimmy,” Val laughed. “I’m not going to do anything to stop her either. Haha!”
“Well Goddamn, Val,” Jimmy whined. “I thought it was bros before hoes!”
I snorted and Val slapped my back. Meghan turned around and twisted Jimmy’s nipple with her free hand, balancing a giant bowl of rice with the other while Jimmy hopped around screaming.

“I told you not to start, bitch!” Meghan took off running towards us, handing the bowl of rice to Val, who then placed it on the table.
“Watch,” Jimmy said, rubbing his now sensitive nipple. “I’m gonna get you back and you’re not gonna fucking like it.”
Meghan, Val and I laughed harder as Zacky walked in with Syn with cases of beer and potato salad in their hands. They made faces of repulsion as Jimmy lifted his shirt, exposing his bright red nipple.

“LOOK AT WHAT YOU DID TO RIGHTY,” he screeched. “OH MY GOD, THAT FUCKING HURT!”
“Fuck Jimmy,” Zacky said, staring at him with a priceless look of amusement on his face. “Did somebody bite that, or what?”

“The fuck are people biting now,” Johnny said loudly as he and Anna walked through the front door, followed by Michelle who was holding Ezra.
“Oh gosh,” Val squealed. “I need to hold my nephew!”
“Man, you don’t even want to know,” I said to Johnny, shaking my head.

The night went by smoothly. Jimmy and Meghan left early because they kept their little feud going from the moment they had arrived. Jimmy decided that it would be super funny to “accidentally” drop his beer in Meghan’s lap, so she “accidentally” booty bumped Jim into the pool. Those two were too damn much, man. It was hilarious. From there, Zacky got a call from Jenna that was supposedly very important. Zacky was pretty irritated, so we talked him into going home and getting it over with. That was that. Bri and Michelle started getting tired so they ended up taking off about half an hour after Zee. So after a good while, it was just Anna, Ezra, Johnny, Val and I. The girls took off inside when Ezra needed to be changed, and left Johnny and I to talk a bit.

“Have you heard from Heaven,” I asked without even thinking. I didn’t even bother looking over to Johnny, and took a long drink from my beer.
“Nope,” he said blankly. “Why? Something happen?”
I shook my head. “Nah bro. Just wondering.”
Johnny nodded and took a swig from his beer can. “You think she really dropped all that shit for me? Or was she just talking shit?”
“I don’t know dude.” And I honestly didn’t. Seeing as how Heaven had threw out Jimmy’s back from that ugly ass push, and hearing the shit she said, I didn’t know what to think, and I fucking think a lot. “She just isn’t the same anymore. Although I agree with some of the things she said, it’s hard to admit it. She’s changed so much, it’s scary. I don’t know how I feel about that. If it’s even her anymore.”
Johnny looked up to the sky and threw his free hand to the back of his head. “How is Val about it?”
“Ha,” I shook my head, and smiled sadly. “She’s confused. She’s pissed at her, but is fighting the urge to defend her. Val loves Heaven. Fuck, we all do. But I don’t know man.”
“Neither do I,” Johnny said quickly. “And I’m starting to not fucking care. I don’t give a flying fuck about what she says about Anna or that baby. They’re mine. Regardless of shit. They’re mine, and I’m going to protect them to the end of my days.”
I looked over to Johnny, and I started to see him in a different light. We always fuck with him. We talk shit, tease him, pick fights with him, team up on him, and of everything, he never fought back. Not like defending himself, I mean by trying to fuck with us the way we do him. But we always said that if the tables were to be turned, we wouldn’t be able to put up with it. And seeing him after he said that was just like seeing him in that same perspective. I would take a bullet for Val any day. But I would never be able to live without her. Seeing Johnny step in where someone else much more capable can was like seeing him do that. Take a bullet for Anna. Or take on the role of both parents if something were to ever happen. I swear I saw his entire life play out before me as I stared at him, and I couldn’t help but feel so fucking happy for him.

“I’ll support you brother,” I clapped his shoulder, and raised my beer to him and he smiled widely, doing the same with his beer can. We took a big drink before Anna and Val interrupted us.

“Ezra fell asleep, babe,” Anna said. “I think it’s time we get home.”
Johnny stood up and nodded at her as she hugged and kissed Val goodbye. Johnny hugged me and thanked Val and I for dinner. Before I knew it, it was late and Val and I were getting ready for bed, when I heard the doorbell ring.

“I’ll get it,” I called up the stairs, thinking that maybe one of the guys left something and came back for it.

I opened the door only to be met by absolutely no one. I looked around and called out, but I got no answer.
“Who is it, Matt,” Val asked from behind me.
“I don’t know. I-,” I stepped out onto the porch, expecting to feel the warm pavement, but meeting a soft, fluffy thing with the bottom of my bare foot.

I looked down to see the onesie that Val and I had picked out for Ezra shortly after he was born. The tags were still intact and there was a note attached to the front of it. A big ‘H’ written in red on the yellow sticky note. I looked at Val with a sinking feeling in my stomach.

“Call Johnny.”
