Chapter 41

Tammy laid still on the floor of her cage. She's been awake for a few minutes now, but everything hurt, and she just wasn't ready to move yet. The room was quiet, but she could tell there were others around. She could feel the eyes on her, hear their breathing, their quiet crying. Tammy brought her hand up, and rubbed her tired eyes before finally forcing them open. She stared up at the ceiling of the cage as she let her eyes adjust to the dim room before she turned her head at a soft whisper. "Synderella?"

Tammy's eyes connected with the sad brown ones of a brunette in the cage next to her. "I heard them say your name," the girl continued, "I've heard of you." Tammy didn't immediately respond to the girl as she pushed herself up with her good arm, and let her eyes travel around the room. So many cages, so many scared girls. She could hear some of them whisper her name as they tried to get a better look. "Please," the sob of the girl next to her brought her eyes back, "You have to help us." Tammy watched the tears fill the girls eyes, and tried hard to fight back her own as other crying please filled her ears. Hot angry tears that wanted so bad to make their way out, but her heart was sad for these girls, knowing exactly how scared they are right now.

"Shut up back there!" she heard a gruff voice snap, "Unless you want me to come back there." he said with a sick chuckle that made her blood boil. The girls were quick to quiet down, and Tammy could see the fear in some of their eyes. She scooted closer to the girl next to her. "What's your name?" she asked at a whisper. "Samantha. Sam." she whispered. Tammy gave her a nod, and rubbed her forehead as she tried to think of something, anything. She had to help them. They were so young. Sam didn't look a day over 17, and there were others that looked even younger.

Tammy met Sam's eyes again, noticing a little less fear than before. "I promise I'm going to get you out of here," she told her softly, "But right now I need your help." Sam nodded anxiously, "Anything." she whispered. "How many guards are there?"
"Two. One inside, and one outside."
"Okay, what kind of guns do they have?"
"Um the one inside has a machine gun I think, and a handgun on his hip. The other only has a machine gun."
"Alright, good. I'm going to do something, and when I do, I need you to call for the guard inside," Tammy explained to her, and Sam nodded, absorbing everything she told her, "Not too loud though," Tammy said as she laid back down on the floor of the cage, "I don't want the guy outside alerted." she finished, and Sam again nodded at her.

With a deep breath, she shut her eyes, and started to shake "uncontrollably". God she hoped this worked. Sam immediately caught on to what she was doing. "Hey," she called out to the guard, not raising her voice too much, but putting some urgency in it, "Hey, something's wrong with her," she said when he looked back. "There better be," he growled as he stormed to the back of the room, "Or I'll make sure there is." His eyes widened a little when he saw Synderella having what looked like a seizure. "I think she's having a reaction to whatever they gave her." Sam said as she watched him frantically try to unlock the cage.

Tammy hear the door open, and felt him kneel next to her. She didn't stop shaking until she heard that assault riffle set down next to her. Holding her breath, her hand slowly crept to the gun as he checked to see if she was breathing or had a pulse. She gripped the gun close to the butt as he tilted her head back to ready for CPR. He pinched her nose close, and she felt him lean in to preform mouth to mouth, but there was no way his lips were going to connect to hers.

The man fell to the side when the butt of his own gun smashed the side of his head. Tammy ignored her screaming muscles as she jumped up, and moved her grip to the barrel, holding it vertically. Over and over again, she smashed the butt of the gun down onto the guards skull. The girls watched with wide eyes as the man's head was reduced to a puddle of brain matter, blood and skull fragments. Tammy stood there for a moment, breathing heavy as she tried to regain control of herself. It may have been a little bit of overkill, but she didn't really care at the moment.

She took the shoulder strap off the gun before tossing it aside. She couldn't shoot it anyway, not with one arm, and it would cause too much noise. Tammy stepped out of her cage, and slowly crept to the door at the front of the room. The building they were in looked like a giant steel building. One you can assemble and disassemble to move. The girls watched anxiously as she stood against the wall next to the door. She took the strap, looped it, gripping it in her hand, and started a wrap around her arm. With her broken arm, she knocked lightly on the door with the back of her hand, and waited.

The guard outside opened the door in, hiding Tammy perfectly behind it. He stepped in letting the door close behind him. She stepped forward, and slipped the loop over his head, and wrapped the slack up the rest of the way around her arm. The man dropped his gun, and his hands went to the strap as he tried to get it off. Tammy kicked the back of his knees, and he fell as she tightened the strap more. The man's gasps, and claws at the strap were frantic as he tried to get some kind of relieving breath, but Tammy wasn't letting up. His face started to turn a mix of blue and purple, and soon his frantic attempts slowed before stopping completely. She didn't let go right away, wanting to make sure he wasn't going to be getting back up.

Tammy let the strap unwind from her arm as the man fell face first to the floor. She checked his pulse quickly to make sure he was dead before heading back to her cage. The girls continued to watch her with curiosity, and for the first time felt a bit of hope that just maybe they would be saved. Tammy paused halfway to her cage when a pair of scared young eyes. She softened her rage, and crouched down to look at the girl. "How old are you?" she asked softly. "14." the girl whispered, and Tammy noticed her shiver as she hugged herself. It made her physically sick, and she had to resist the urge to vomit. How could someone be so heartless? A question she's asked herself so many times before, but still without an answer.

Tammy stood up, and quickly walked back to the man she strangled. She ripped off his coat, and walked back to the girl. Poor thing was in basically her underwear. They all were, she still in the hospital gown she first woke up in. "Here," she said slipping the coat through the bars of the cage, "It's cold in here." she whispered. The girl wrapped it around herself, and looked at her with appreciative eyes, "Thank you." she said. Tammy gave her a soft smile, "I promise I'm gonna get you out of here." she told her receive a small nod before she stood up, and continued with whatever the hell it was she was going to do.

She stepped back into her cage, and grabbed the handgun from the holster on the first guard. It would be easier to handle with one hand, if she ended up using it. Tammy would have preferred something a little quieter, buy she wasn't going empty handed. She searched his pockets, and found his keys before stepping back out of the cage. She started to head for the door when a voice stopped her. "Where are you going?" one of the girls asked. "You said you would get us out of here." she continued looking a little desperate and angry.

Some of the other girls joined in with pleas to let them out. "Shhh, please," Tammy tried to calm them, "I promise I will get each and everyone of you out, but I can't do it now." she told them. "Why not? I want to go home." the girl continued to plea as tears started to make their way down her cheeks. "I know, and you will, but you have to be patient. I don't know what or who is out that door," she explained pointing slightly to the door, "I don't how many people are outside, or where we are. You have to give me time to look, and find a way to reach my guys. I promise I won't leave you here. If I find a way out, I will come back for you, but you have to trust me."

The girl gave her a defeated nod, "I trust you." she whispered. Tammy smiled softly at her, "I'll be back," she said before heading for the door, "If anyone comes in here while I'm gone, don't you hide me," she told them pausing to grab the keys off the other guard in case they had different ones, "What do you mean?" the girl she gave the coat to spoke up. "Tell them everything you saw. The man in charge around here won't hesitate to kill you if you don't talk," she told her as she started for the door again, "I can't get you out of here if you're dead." she said before cracking the door open and peeking outside.

It was dark out, and there was an unusual chill in the air. Tammy couldn't see anyone around, but she could hear them around. She slipped out the door, and shut it quietly behind her. Some of the area was lit up. There was a large building she could see in the distance still under construction. There was heavy machinery around, and she was pretty sure they were on a construction site. Tammy quickly ran from the building and ducked behind a large bulldozer. She could see a trailer about a hundred feet to her right that had a red cross on it. Must be the onsite clinic.

Tammy heard rocks crunching under someone's feet, and she quickly held her breath, pressing her back against the bulldozer as she listened to them get closer. There were two sets of steps, and her heart smashed against her chest as she listened to them stop on the other side. Tammy glanced at the building she wanted to get into. They would see her if she tried now. She could hear lighters being lit soon followed by the smell of cigarettes burning. Damn they were going to be here for a minute. Tammy thought for a moment, staring at the ground before a rock gave her an idea.

She picked it up, and looked for something away from them she could throw it at. She spotted a large crane that looked further away than the makeshift clinic. Ignoring her screaming ribs, she chucked the rock as hard as she could. A small smile formed when she heard a satisfying *tink* as the rock hit the metal side of the crane. "You hear that?" one of the men said. "Sounded like it came from over there." she heard the other followed by footsteps as they walked away from the bulldozer.

Tammy watched them disappear behind some building materials, and made a dash for the clinic. She tried as calmly and quickly as she could to find the key that matched this lock. She cursed to herself once she got to the seventh key she tried. She would be in here by now if she had her lock pick kit. Tammy started to get a little more frantic when she hear voices getting closer to her. She suppressed a cheer when finally the tenth key she tried got her in. Tammy slipped into the dark trailer and shut the door behind her.

She peeked out the window, and saw the two men holding guns, talking to each other. One of them was pointing her way. Shit, she needed to hurry. It didn't take long for her eyes to adjust inside, and she let her eyes scan the familiar room. This is where she first woke up. Tammy glanced out the window again, and noticed one of the men walking towards the trailer. The other was looking towards the building the girls were in. She quickly locked the door to by herself some time to get what she came for. She needed something quieter than a gun.

The door knob started to rattle, and Tammy grabbed the first thing she saw. Hiding behind the door, she filled the empty syringe with air as she listened to a key unlock the door. Her hand gripped the needle firmly, thumb on the depressor as the door slowly opened. The man stepped through the doorway, gun aimed ready for whoever was in here. He knows he saw that door close. He just didn't know what was waiting for him in the shadows behind the door.

Tammy jumped on his back, and plunged the needle into his jugular. She forced the air in to the artery, and the man dropped his gun as he tried frantically to get her off his back. His arm hit the syringe in his neck, breaking the needled off inside as he tried to reach her. Tammy let go of him, and pushed him away with her foot. She could see small spurts of blood escape from the needle in his neck as he turned to face her. She watched his eyes widened as he gripped his chest before collapsing to his knees, and falling face first to the floor.

Tammy let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding before quickly locking the door again, and checking the man's pulse to make sure he was dead. Not finding one, Tammy glanced out the window again in time to see the other guy run out of the building the girls were in, frantic, on the phone. Tammy quickly grabbed a couple of scalpels, and some bandages to wrap around her feet. Wasn't as good as shoes, but they would help some. She took another bandage, and wrapped the gun to her thigh in a makeshift holster. She was about to make a break out the door, but the phone on the desk stopped her in her tracks.

She took another look out the window, the man was still on his phone. He looked pissed. Tammy ran to the desk, and picked up the phone. She didn't know if she would reach anyone. She didn't even know if anyone would be there, but she had to try. She quickly dialed the number for Jimmy's desk phone. It was a land line and she remembered him saying they were the easiest and fastest to trace. At least this way if no one answered she could leave it off the hook, and let it ring. The line continued to ring, and soon the knob was starting to rattle on the door again. Shit she was out of time.

She set the receiver down making it look like it was hung up just before she heard the door unlock. Tammy sucked in a breath, and ducked down behind the desk as she listened to the door open and footsteps walk in. Her heart raced in her chest as she listened to him curse and run over to the man she killed. How the fuck was he going to get out of here? Her eyes frantically searched around as she listened to him walk around the trailer looking for her. Tammy's eyes caught some bright red lettering in a corner behind the desk where she was hiding, and she crawled over to it. Emergency Hatch, it said. Tammy felt some relief, and quickly turned the handle and threw the hatch open. That got his attention.

Tammy slipped through the hatch, and under the trailer as footsteps hurried to her. The man aimed his gun down at the hole, and fired as she crawled away. Boyd may have said he wanted her alive, but she had already killed three people this man considered friends. There was no way he was going to let her get away with it. Tammy felt a burn in her leg, but ignored it as she scrambled to her feet, and took off towards the construction. She could hear others yelling, and soon there was a loud alarm blaring through speakers all over the site. "Over there!" she heard some yell before diving behind a cement mixer as bullets came her way.

Footsteps in the distance started running closer as she took a moment to catch some breath. The gun fire had silenced, and she took the opportunity to run to the building that wasn't finished. Tammy ran through the open door way and into the dark building. The external walls were finished, but the inside walls were just getting started. She stepped further in, her eyes searching all around for a place to hide. She walked through another doorway with unfinished walls, and spotted some tool boxes on the floor. Her eyes almost lit up as she rushed over to them and opened one. She grinned as she pulled the hammer out, but it quickly vanished when she heard people enter.

Staying low, Tammy made a move for a stack of drywall sheets to hide behind. She stayed on her hands and knees, a hammer in one hand, a scalpel in the other as she listened to the men walk around. "Check upstairs. I know she came in here." she heard one of them say before a set of footsteps retreated away. She held her breath again as she listened the one downstairs move around. Tammy watched the shadow on the wall grow as the footsteps got closer and closer to her. It was now or never. She popped up, startling the man before the hammer collided with his head. The man fell to the floor unconscious, and Tammy hit him a few more times just for good measure.

She drug the body behind the stack of drywall, and looked around for a way out. The other guy was upstairs, and hopefully wouldn't see where she went. Tammy made her way through the unfinished walls spotting an opening in one of the exterior walls. It looked like it was going to be a back entrance. She could still hear footsteps above her as she rushed to the door, and out the back strait into a fence. She paused and looked up seeing it lined with barbed wire. She looked down to the left then right. It looked like it enclosed the whole construction site. Tammy spotted a dumpster to the right, and didn't hesitate to run to it.

She paused at the end of the building, and made sure no one would see her before making a quick dash for the dumpster, and jumping inside. Tammy closed the lid, and sat on a chunk of plywood. The thing was full of discarded building materials, and she was thankful it didn't smell in here. She could sometimes hear a few people pass her, each time holding her breath praying they didn't look in the dumpster, but no one did. She didn't know how long she sat there, waiting for a good time to move, but she had to go soon. This would be a really bad death trap if she stayed too long.

Tammy's head snapped up when the blaring alarm ceased, and again she found herself holding her breath. There was a deathly silence around, and she started to get nervous. What was going on. She cracked open the lid on the dumpster and looked out. There was no one around, and she couldn't hear anything. Maybe now was her time to move. She climbed out and froze as soon as her feet hit the ground. "Synderella," his voice sang through the speakers, "Come out, come out where ever you are."

Tammy almost let out a laugh. There was no way she was just going to come out. "Synderella," she heard him again, "If you don't come out I may be forced to hurt one of these pretty little girls." he said, and Tammy cursed under her breath. "Starting with the one that helped you escape." he growled through the speakers. Tammy let out a defeated sigh as she made her way out of hiding, hoping that someone soon would answer her call.
