Fake Reflection

Chapter 31

William grabbed his carry on bag once his plane landed at LAX. He had to fly commercial. The government jets would raise questions. As soon as he got that video from Shadows, he booked the first flight to LA. Shadows knew somehow, and he needed to shut them down before anything got out. He partially blamed Demarco for letting his men be so sloppy, but he would deal with that later. Right now he needed Avenged Sevenfold behind bars.
He had a car waiting for him outside the airport, and pulled his phone out once inside. He was growing more and more irritated with each ring, until it was finally answered on the sixth one. "What?" Kevin asked, sleep and annoyance in his voice. "We need to talk." William said with just as much irritation. "Can't it wait till tomorrow?" Kevin asked. He just fell asleep, and did not want to do this right now. "No. Now get up, I'll be there in 20 minutes." William told him, hanging up, not giving him a chance to protest.

Kevin tossed his phone on his night stand, and turned to the blonde, whose name he didn't even bother to remember, occupying his bed right now. "Get up," he said, pushing on her shoulder, "You need to leave." he said flat when she looked at him. The girl looked slightly confused, and he grew even more irritated with the night. "Get out!" he snapped when she made no attempt to leave. She jumped up, and hurried to grab her clothes, "Asshole." he heard her mumble before slamming his bedroom door closed, a few moments later hearing the front door slam.

With a heavy sigh, Kevin tossed back the blanket, and climbed out of bed. What the hell was he doing here anyway? It had to be important if he flew across the country. He hasn't forgotten about what Kimmie told him. He's been having a hard time believing it, but she's not a liar, especially when it comes to her job. If she saw something, more than likely it's true. He also hasn't forgotten about William telling him to get Shadows off his back. He didn't know what to believe. It's not unheard of for there to be corrupt officials, and that was something he hated almost as much as the gangs. He may be an asshole, but he had a respect for the law, and couldn't stand it when people abused their power for criminal gain. Maybe it was time for him to do some investigating of his own.

The door bell rang, and Kevin opened the door to an expressionless Boyd. He pushed his way in, and Kevin rolled his eyes, "Please come in." he sarcastically mumbled as he closed the door. He joined William, who was standing in the living room, hands folded behind his back. "Where are you on the investigation?" he questioned when Kevin entered the room. "That's what you came all this way for?" he asked. "Just answer the question!" William snapped finally making eye contact with him. Kevin narrowed his eyes, "We have nothing yet." he told him watching anger swirl in his eyes. "How can you have nothing!? Your cops have been in there for months!" Boyd asked clearly furious. "I don't know what to tell you. They haven't found anything to link them to the Cartel." Kevin said showing no signs of intimidation by William.

William took a few steps closer to Kevin, "I told you to find anything." he said slightly calmer. "There isn't anything at least not that they have found." Kevin told him. "Then your cops aren't doing their jobs!" Boyd snapped. "What do you want from me?" Kevin questioned, "I can't make the evidence just appear. If they haven't found anything, then they haven't found anything, plain and simple." he told him. William shook his head, "Either they're not doing their jobs, or they're hiding something," he said low, "And if they are hiding something then I want their jobs, or I'll have yours." he warned.

That thought too had crossed Kevin's mind. She admitted to sleeping with him. If she had feelings for him then there's a chance she was hiding something. Shane has been reporting in, and keeping them updated. Kevin knows there are jobs she has followed them on, but hasn't produced any kind of evidence. "I'll see what I can find." he told Boyd. He would make him believe he was working for him, but he had other plans. The fact that William is so adamant about this raised a flag. Maybe he could bring them both down. "I'll be in town all week," Boyd said heading for the door, "I want them behind bars before I leave." and with that he walked out the door.

Kevin waited till the next morning to make his trek to Huntington Beach. He was sure Kimmie wouldn't be home today, since she's been spending all her time with Shadows. What he was about to do wasn't technically illegal. Both of their houses, and everything inside, but their personal items, was government property, and he had every right to do what he was about to do. He wouldn't have a key if he didn't. After circling the block once, to make sure she really wasn't there, he pulled right up into the driveway.

He made his way to the door, and was about to unlock it when he suddenly remembered that mutt she had. He couldn't hear anything, and he knocked slightly as he listened. Nothing, she must have him with her. He put the key in the lock, and opened the door. You could tell she hadn't been here for a while. Kimmie has always been so clean, and there was a small layer of dust accumulating on the shelves and furniture.
Kevin made a beeline for her bedroom. More than likely if she was hiding anything it would be in there, and the sooner he found what he was looking for, the sooner he could get out of there. He may have the right to look, especially if he believed she withholding evidence, but that doesn't mean he wanted her to catch him there. He turned the light on, and scanned the room, his eyes catching her laptop on the dresser.

He sat down on her bed, and opened the laptop, hoping she uploaded everything to it, and he could get out of there. Of course it wasn't going to be that easy. There wasn't anything in there, nothing that would connect them to anything. Every file, every folder, nothing until for some reason he opened her browser. Now he was just being nosey, but her email was open, and the forwarded messages from Shadows caught his eye. He just wasn't expecting to see what he did. Kimmie was right. It was all there in front of his face. Shadows had Linkin Park following Boyd. Kevin isn't unfamiliar with the gangs. He's made it one of his personal missions to shut them all down. Linkin Park disappeared from the area a few years ago. Looks like they are across the country now.

Could Shadows really be trying to stop him? It made sense, why else would William want him off his back? Why would Shadows send these to her? Unless she sent them herself. Kevin wasn't stupid, he didn't get to were his is because he wasn't good at his job, and it was all becoming clear to him. Boyd is just using him to Avenged out of the way. Kevin smirked to himself as he sent the all the messages to his email. There was enough evidence here to start a federal investigation, and put this fucker behind bars for life. Kevin deleted the emails from Kimmie's sent messages, and closed everything. He put the laptop back on the dresser, and scanned the room. Now it was time to find something to bring Avenged Sevenfold down.

Kevin searched her dresser, which was fairly easy. There were hardly any clothes in there at all, or anything he was looking for. He needed to find her police issued equipment, maybe all the stuff was still on them. As much as Kimmie probably wouldn't like it, he knew more about her then she would think. He knows how important it is to her to make her parent proud of her, and that alone would be enough to keep her from deleting anything she would have. He opened her closet, it too void of hardly any clothes. It was like she wasn't even living here anymore, and Kevin couldn't control the jealousy that filled him at the thought of the two.

He knew what he lost, and at one point he was sure that he loved her. Maybe that was what pushed him to the arms of so many other women. He wouldn't admit it out loud, but it scared him. He was a coward, and it caused him to make the biggest mistake of his life, but he wasn't about to let Shadows have her. He searched everything on the floor of the closet, and the shelf, but didn't find any of her equipment. He searched every inch of that room, and still found nothing. Kevin left the room, not bothering to hid the fact that someone had been there. He didn't care anymore, he just wanted to find something, and get the fuck out of there.

He entered the kitchen, and threw open cupboards and drawers, not caring about the mess he left in his search. She probably wouldn't see anyone was there until it was too late. Again he found nothing. Where could she be hiding it. Making his way to the living room, he started searching shelves, and the cupboards on her entertainment center, and yet still found nothing. Then a hope chest under the window grabbed his attention. He tried to open it, but it was locked. He searched for a key, but didn't find one. She probably had it with her.
Kevin went through the door that lead to her garage to find something he could pry the chest open with. Finding a claw hammer in a tool box, he practically ran back to the living room. He wedged the claw end of the hammer under the lock, and with a few tries was able to pop it open. A smile crossed his face as he looked down at the video recorder, and camera. All of her police stuff was in here, even her badge. It almost pained him a little. Kimmie was a good cop, that he wouldn't deny, but he didn't want to see her on the other side. How could she let herself get involved with him?

Kevin pulled out the two cameras, and turned the video on first. His eyes widened at the images on the screen, but he couldn't hold back his smile. He found what he was looking for, and even though the victim on the screen was a pedophile he recognized right away, it didn't matter. Murder was murder, and they had this man's charred body down at the morgue. All the evidence connecting anyone to the murder was destroyed in the fire, but now he had this.

He turned off the video camera, and picked up the other camera. Turning it on, he quickly scrolled through the pictures. This was something they didn't even know about. Who were these people, and why was Kimmie hiding this? She could loose her job for this. At first he hesitated taking the evidence. Part of him didn't want her to get in trouble for withholding evidence, but then he remembered Shadows. Kevin's smile quickly faded as he grabbed both cameras, and left the house. She made her choices, and now she was going to have to live with them.

Kevin made one last quick stop at Shane's house. He wasn't home either, but he wasn't sure how long he would have. He probably wouldn't find much there. Most of Shane's evidence would be eye witness accounts testified in court, but he remembered him saying that he had some recordings with clients during one of his check-ins. Kevin didn't park in the driveway instead he parked across, and down the street a little. He entered the house, and noticed the tv on. He wouldn't have much time.

He spotted Shane's laptop on the coffee table, and immediately went over to it. He opened the computer, and started his search. It was easier to find. Shane had his stuff labeled. At least he was still on the right side of the law. Kevin listened to the voice recordings with a frown. He didn't need anything that made them look good, but it did give him an idea on how to get them where he needs them. Kevin's head snapped to the door when he heard a car pull into the driveway. He quickly shut the laptop, and stood from the couch, making it out the back door before Shane walked in.

Kevin jumped in his car, and quickly started it. The smile crossed his face once again as he set out for LA. He was going to blow open William's scandal, and put away Avenged Sevenfold. First though he had someone else game to play. Kevin pulled out his phone and called Boyd. "You better have something for me." William answered on the second ring. Kevin smirked, "I do," he replied, "Meet me at my office in an hour." he told him. "It better be something good." Boyd told him. "I think you'll be pleased." Kevin said hanging up. He'd play along for now, but Boyd wouldn't be leaving in a week like he plans, not if Kevin had anything to with it.
