Him

When landed I gave dad a text. He only lived a bit away so he said he'd come pick me up. The flight was hell. I'd never seen so many kids in one place, kicking my chair, screaming, crying. Pure hell. While I waited for dad, I decided to text Brian.

'I'm in Mississippi, is Mom okay?'

When I looked up, I saw dad. His confusion as he searched for me was priceless. He didn't recognise me.

"Dad" I smiled tapping his shoulder.

"Ren? Jesus Christ I didn't recognise you" He picked me up and squeezed me kissing my cheek. "God baby doll, look at you"

"Is that a gray hair?" I laughed.

Dad was 36 like mom. Considering my parents were very young when they had me, they'd always been the best mother and father. When they both split 10 years ago, I never saw dad as much as I hoped. We moved to California to stay with moms auntie, and dad did everything he could to stop it. I visited for 3 weeks every summer until I was 16. I just didn't go back.

"Wow Nay, you've changed so much" He took my case and dragged it to his car. "So how have you been sweetie?"

"Yeah, alright" I sighed sitting in the car. "I missed you dad"

"I've missed you too Renee. I've got my baseball buddy back now" He chuckled opening the window fully down. Jackson was truly gorgeous. In my opinion it was so much better than home.

"Yeah" I said.

"How's your mom then?"

"Moms good, yeah" I huffed altering the seat backwards. It reminded me of the text I sent to Brian, so I checked my phone.

'Devastated'

"You okay there?" Dad asked stroking my leg.

"Yeah, yeah um, just a friend saying there missing me" I laughed shaking all of the sadness off. This was meant to be a new start for me, I was going to be happy about this no matter what.
