Chapter 9

Katie’s POV

I was putting some shirts into my duffle bag when suddenly a strong arm was wrapped around my waist to pull me against a muscly chest.
“Hey baby.” His deep voice whispered and his lips placed hot kisses onto my exposed neck. That’s when a beautiful red rose magically appeared in front of me.
“Oh my … is this for me?” I gasped and gently took the flower out of his tattooed hand.
“A beautiful rose for the most beautiful girl I have ever met.” He said softly and when I turned around I saw his handsome face smiling down at me. I felt my cheeks heating up madly and I knew I was blushing heavily which made him smile even more.
“You’re an idiot.” I mumbled and hugged him tightly, burying my face in the crook of his neck. His light chuckle echoed through my body as he squeezed my small form.
“I love you too babe.” He said softly. As I loosened my embrace he pulled back and cupped my cheek that was still tinted in a light pink. Our eyes met and in his dark brown eyes there was only sincerity.
“I really do love you, Katie. Never doubt or forget it.” He said and it made me smile. I placed my hand over his and brought it to my lips before I got on the tips of my toes to reach him.
“I love you too … my savior.” I whispered and when we finally kissed I was lucky that his strong arms held me together as I was melting away.

It’s been six weeks since I had regained consciousness and during that time Jeremy had been a huge help. We had spent a lot of time together talking and getting to know one another anew and slowly I had giving into the warm and fuzzy feeling. Whenever I was with Jeremy I felt safe and even the smallest touch made the butterflies in my tummy go crazy.
At first I was so confused about these feelings since I barely knew him but something inside of me told me to just go ahead; that he and I had a connection before I have lost half my memory; that he was worth it. It was hard though, to trust him and give him a chance but Betty, my favorite nurse, told me what Jeremy had done for me all this time.
Jeremy had brought me here, he was waiting for news while I had surgery, he sat at my bedside holding my hand every day from dusk till dawn to make sure I was ok and last but not least, he was there when I woke up. Jeremy has been protecting and loving me non-stop. I could see this now and it made me the happiest girl on this planet.

“I am so excited to finally leave this place. You have no idea how close I was to losing my mind.” I chuckled as we walked down the hall to the elevators, Jeremy carrying my bag.
“Oh I think I have a pretty good idea considering that I dealt with this crazy little head of yours every day.” Grinning, Jeremy lifted his hand that was holding mine and somehow managed to poke my forehead.
“Hey! Don’t be mean. You know you love it.” I lightly nudged him. I pushed the button to call the elevator when he pulled me close to his amazing body.
“That’s true.” He smiled softly down at me and I couldn’t help but return it.
“I know.” I took a fistful of the front of his shirt and pulled him down to me and into a sweet kiss. Just then the elevator arrived, the opening doors revealing Dr. Stevens and Dr. Knowles with a couple of nurses.
“Ah Miss Reynolds. Off on our merry way?” Dr. Stevens asked with a small smile on his lips. Blushing I looked down to my feet while I could hear the satisfied grin in my boyfriend’s voice.
“Thank you, doctor. For everything.” Jeremy said, squeezing my hand gently.
“Oh that’s my job, Mr. Spencer.” That’s when I felt a hand on my shoulder and when I lifted my head I looked right into the pair of green eyes that belonged to the man that had saved my life.
“Take it easy and don’t be scared. Everything happens for a reason.” Dr. Stevens smiled softly.
I don’t know why but I had a feeling that he knew more than he was telling me. The look in his eyes woke up a feeling inside of me that I didn’t understand. However, his voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
“And if you feel dizzy or nauseous go and see a doctor about it, ok? No bravery or false modesty. Do you understand?”
“Yes, doctor. I promise I won’t do anything reckless.” I smiled and he took my hand.
“Wonderful. Then all that’s left is wishing you all the best and a safe trip home. Take care of you.” He squeezed my hand smiling and then turned to shake hands with Dr. Knowles as well.
“Thank you so much for saving my life.” I said full of gratitude.
“Don’t worry doctor, I won’t let her out of my sight.” Jeremy smiled and with that we said our goodbyes.

We had decided to stay in town for the next couple of weeks, just in case. Jeremy wanted to show me my favorite places and he had scheduled a get together with my best friend Elly. I remembered, I hadn’t seen her for what felt like ages and I was sure she could help me getting some memories back.
It took us forever to get to our hotel in Santa Monica. Jeremy had told me that I used to like to look out to the open sea so he had booked a room in a hotel that was very close to the beach. I didn’t know if it was true but I trusted him.
Having someone tell you what you were into was such a weird experience. Apparently Jeremy knew me better than I did myself which freaked me out pretty much all the time. I had to admit, the thought of getting my memories back was scaring the shit out of me. Not that I didn’t want to remember the wonderful moments I had spent with my boyfriend Jeremy but still. I really liked him but he was practically a stranger and just thinking about us being intimate with one another was making my stomach churn. I loved being with him, his hugs and kisses were something I needed a lot these days but never once has the thought of sleeping with him crossed my mind. It didn’t feel right as of now. We haven’t talked about this subject yet and I was eternally grateful for that. Jeremy was very understanding but I wasn’t counting on it when telling him about my feelings towards having sex with him.
Deep in thoughts I didn’t notice us entering the hotel. I felt a calloused hand on my cheek and soft lips bringing me back to reality.
“There you are.” He whispered, softly smiling as my eyes focused on his face again.
“I … I’m sorry.” I smiled apologetically.
“It’s ok, baby.” Jeremy took my hand and we walked up to the elevators. “Where have you been? You completely zoned out back there. Took me a while to bring you back.” He chuckled but I felt the sting of guilt in my heart.
“Oh it was nothing. I guess I’m a little tired from the long car ride. Which is ridiculous because we were sitting all the time …” I sighed as we stepped into the elevator, “I’m sorry baby.” I squeezed his hand, shooting him a fake smile.
“Don’t worry, love.” He kissed my forehead and the doors closed, “You’re still weak from everything that has happened. We’ll take it slow and when you feel your 100% again I’ll take you home.”
Home. This word echoed through my bones and left a bitter taste in my mouth. I had no idea what was wrong with me out of a sudden. I had been so incredibly happy this morning and now my head wouldn’t stop spinning with thoughts and doubts over the silliest things.
Holding onto Jeremy’s hand for dear life we exited the elevator and walked down the long and very fancy hallway to our room. With my head being anywhere but there I didn’t really acknowledge the expensive interior and beautiful decorations but when Jeremy opened the door for us my eyes nearly popped out of their sockets: It was a mini suite with a living and a bedroom. A big comfy looking couch as well as two arm chairs faced a large TV screen. The dresser and the mini bar were perfectly integrated into the simple but classic style of the room. The bedroom contained a kingsize bed and two specially designed nightstands on each side. It was practically screaming my name.
I walked up to the window front and felt a smile appear on my lips. Through the huge transparent front we had a fantastic view over the beach with its palm trees and the beautifully glistening sea. Jeremy had been right, I really loved the sea.
Suddenly strong arms were wrapped around my waist and pulled me into a wonderful hug.
“You like it?” He whispered, kissing my temple.
“Very much so.” I whispered back and cuddled into his embrace. We stood there in complete silence enjoying the view and different scenery from what I was used to. I mean, I had spent almost four months in the same building, never allowed to leave. Seeing the beach and the open sea, a symbol of freedom, made me feel calm and a little bit less lost. Because no matter how much love Jeremy poured over me, no matter how many stories he told me about myself and him and our friends, my whole existence right there was what it was: A story. I was basically an actress in a movie that has forgotten all her lines. I was like a boat, lost on open sea during a thunderstorm. But Jeremy was trying so hard to make this situation as easy as possible for me. That’s why I couldn’t tell him that something was missing, even though I was happy with him. Not telling him might have been a shitty move but after everything he had done for me I didn’t want to break his heart. I couldn’t.
“Babe, you zoned out again.” Jeremy chuckled and poked my side, making me jump.
“Really?” I laughed, blushing from embarrassment. “I’m sorry, Jer. I think … my brain feels squishy. I should take a nap.” He chuckled again.
“Alright, love.” He kissed my forehead, cupping my cheek. “Try and get some rest.”
Smiling I nodded and kissed his lips lovingly before getting my PJs – a band shirt and panties – from my bag and leaving to the bedroom. With one last smile in his direction I closed the door. I changed, closed the curtains and once my head hit the soft pillows with their fresh covers I was out.

I was in a room. A bedroom. But it wasn’t the bedroom of the hotel. It looked more like someone’s home. A slight panic rose in my chest. I was in a stranger’s house. How did I get there? Where was I and where was Jeremy?
“So … that’s it.” I jumped and when I turned around I saw a very handsome man with dark brown hair that was combed back, exposing the shaved sides of his head. He was leaning against the door frame, his hands in his pockets. “You are going.”
“It’s for the best.” I heard myself say and noticed that I was packing some clothes very neatly into a suitcase.
What was going on? Why was I packing those clothes? And who was this guy? He hadn’t replied yet but somehow I knew that he was still there. I could feel his eyes were burning into the side of my face.
“You don’t have to do this.” He said softly after a while.
“You know that I do.” Came out of my mouth but my eyes weren’t looking up at him. I don’t know why but a voice deep inside of me wanted me to go and hug him, kiss him and never let him go. But for some reason it wasn’t so easy.
“Please Katie …” He knew my name?
I froze when I felt his strong arms being wrapped around my waist. Through the thin fabric of the blouse I was wearing I felt the heat of his body as he pulled me against his chest. That’s when something hit me: This was where I belonged. Right there, in his embrace. This was my home. My real home.
Slowly I placed the bras that I was apparently holding in my hands in the suitcase and turned around to face this man. His scent was so incredibly intoxicating and I couldn’t help but let my hands run over his chest until they came to the back of his neck where my fingers played with his soft hair. We locked eyes and with hundreds of butterflies in my stomach I leaned in for a soft kiss that soon got hungrier. I didn’t know what was happening but I didn’t want it to stop. My heart was racing in my chest and my whole body was responding to his touch.
One of his hands came to my butt and squeezed it which led me to step closer. With ease he picked me up and I wrapped my legs around his waist. Then I felt my back slam into a nearby wall while we were still ravishing each other’s mouths.
It was hot, it was passionate and full of hunger. Pure longing and, at least for my part, confusion was driving us crazy. We wanted to feel one another, not only physically. I held onto him for dear life, not wanting to leave his embrace. But suddenly a phone rang and pulled me away from this little piece of heaven.
My eyes snapped open and I found myself back in the hotel’s bedroom, with one hand in my panties and my phone’s alarm ringing in my ears.
What in the actual fuck was that?
