Weird Girl

I felt the softness of morning sunlight through my eyelids, daytime already. I opened my eyes, squinting as I sat up. My head was pounding; I couldn't have had more than a cup of whiskey last night, so why did I feel so bad? I looked at the back of my hand, sighing as I saw the cigarette burn. It was red and scabbed, I figured that it was probably going to scar. I looked at the clock, 8:35 am. I got out of bed, grabbing some clothes and going to the bathroom to take a shower, since I had just fallen asleep in my clothes and makeup the night before.

I got changed quickly after the shower, my mother was still asleep so I figured I'd leave before she got up. I was wearing a black sweater and some shorts, my hair was damp and messy, I didn’t really care how I looked. I grabbed my grey messenger bag with my stuff in it and walked out of the front door, dialing Cassie's number as I started walking to her house.
"Hello?" She answered.
"Hey are you home?" I asked.
"Not really, stupid dentist appointment." She said, which made me slow down to a stop.
"Well that sucks, I have nothing to do." I sighed.
"There's a billion things to do, go to mall or call Jimmy or something." She smiled. "Or hey, you could even call Matt..." I could hear her grinning.
"Bye Cassie." I rolled my eyes, hanging up the phone.

I called up Jimmy, it was probably a lost cause though, he's probably off with his friends somewhere, doing whatever they do.
"Hey" Jimmy answered.
"Okay so I'm bored as fuck and Cassie busy so congrats you get to hang out with me." I smirked.
"Such an honor." He laughed. "I'm at Matt's house though, if you wanna come over." He smirked.
"Um..." I trailed off; I didn't want it to be awkward with Matt because of last night. "Sure I guess..." I muttered.
"Awesome." He said right before hanging up. I put my phone back into my pocket, sighing at what I had just gotten myself into. I was only a couple of steps from my house, so I started walking to Matt's.

I lit a cigarette as soon as I arrived, the garage door was open and Jimmy was standing in the driveway, with the ever so permanent grin on his face.
"Hey blondie." He greeted. "Crazy night?" He chuckled. I narrowed my eyes at him, glancing into the garage, where Matt was, smoking a cigarette. There were various instruments scattered everywhere, plus amps and a computer.
"It was all right, what you get up to?" I asked, taking a drag off my cigarette.
"Oh ya know, got drunk, Cassie poured some beer on this girl, the usual." He shrugged. I chuckled, looking down at my cigarette. “So where is Cassie?” He asked.
“The dentist.” I stated, he sighed. “So do you guys have any beer?” I asked, taking another drag off my cigarette, I could see Matt look over to me out of the corner of my eye.
“It’s only 9!” Jimmy laughed, I had forgotten other people don’t drink as early as me.
“You don’t need any more alcohol…” Matt said, walking over to us. I glared at him, who was he to say I didn’t need alcohol? He obviously doesn’t know me at all.
“Whatever…” I sighed, taking the last drag off my cigarette and putting it out. “So what have you guys been doing?” I asked, crossing my arms.
“Writing some stuff, we were going to head down to the beach.” Jimmy said, the beach was walking distance, I used to go with my parents all the time when I was younger, it was really nice. I noticed that they were wearing swimming trunks instead of pants. “We’re meeting the rest of the guys there.” Jimmy said.
“Oh, I haven’t been in years…” I muttered.
“You haven’t to the beach in years?! You live in California.” Jimmy exclaimed.
“Yeah I used to go all the time then I just… Stopped I guess.” I said, Matt looked at me confusedly.
“Well run over to your house and grab a swim suit.” Jimmy said. I panicked for a second, there was no way I would wear a bathing suit around them, I have scars all down my arms and I just look gross, but I really liked swimming…
“Um, no it’s okay, I won’t be there for long, I’m not much of a swimmer these days…” I trailed off.
“Well that doesn’t mean you should deprive yourself of the joy of wearing a bikini.” Jimmy grinned mischievously.
“That’s always a good time…” Matt smirked.
“Let’s just go.” I rolled my eyes.

We walked over to the beach, talking about random things that I wouldn’t be able to remember the next day, but it was nice, it was nice to talk to people that didn’t know me very well, that didn’t know everything that was wrong with me, well not even Cassie knew everything…

I guess when we got to the beach I didn’t expect Courtney to be there, which was stupid I guess because she is Matt’s girlfriend. I sometimes forgot how much prettier than me she was, but I guess she had an edge because she was wearing a bikini.
She jumped up as soon as she saw Matt, practically shoving her tongue down his throat, I almost gagged. They broke the kiss when Courtney noticed me.
“What is she doing here?” She glared at me.
“Dude it’s a beach, not a hotel room, calm down.” I rolled my eyes, chuckling. “Besides I’m not staying.” She kept glaring at me so I just walked over to where Johnny and his girlfriend were, I had spoken to her a few times and she seemed nice, well at least nicer than Courtney.
“Fucking hell what did I ever do to her?” I muttered, glaring at Courtney who was busy throwing herself at Matt.
“She’s not always this mean; she doesn’t take to new people well, especially around her boyfriend.” Violet said. I just sighed, lighting a cigarette.
“Why are you wearing a sweater?” Johnny asked, taking a sip of a beer that I just noticed was in his hand. “It’s like 90 degrees.” He chuckled.
“I’m going soon, I don’t swim.” I muttered. “Where’s the beer?” I asked.
“The cooler over there.” He pointed to it; Jimmy was standing near it with Cassie who had just showed up. I walked over to the cooler, greeting Cassie.
“Hey! Why aren’t you wearing a swim suit?” She asked me, she was wearing a small red bikini, she had such a better body than me.
“I don’t have one, I’m leaving soon anyway.” I said, grabbing a beer out of the cooler.
“Just swim in your underwear it’s like the same thing!” She exclaimed, I had started drinking, I was almost half way through my second beer.
“Yeah right.” I laughed as I finished the beer. Jimmy picked me up quickly, running towards the water.
“Jimmy put me down!” I screamed. “Why is it so easy for people to do this?!
Everyone else followed behind us, running into the water excitedly. He ran pretty far into the water, which was surprising considering I was flailing and kicking. He practically dunked me into the water, soaking me.
“Jimmy you fucking asshole!” I yelled, I couldn’t help myself from laughing. He just laughed at me, Cassie ran up, splashing us both with water.
“Jimmy stop making other girls wet.” Cassie laughed, engaging a splash fight with him that I had to get away from at risk of getting more saltwater in my eyes.
Courtney was still sunbathing on the sand, I could see Matt trying to get her to actually have fun. I walked back to the shore, sliding off my soaked sweater and tank top and running back into the water, before anyone could get a good look at me. I was still wearing my shorts, thankfully I didn’t care if those got completely ruined. I ran out to the water, I got pretty far away from everyone else, I didn’t want to get away from them I just wanted to start swimming and never stop, I had forgotten how free the sea felt. The water was almost up to my neck, my mouth tasted like beer and salt. I started floating on my back, I found myself staring up into the clouds and wishing I could float up there instead of down here, where I would eventually have to swim back to the shore eventually.
I started to hear Cassie call my name, I decided to go underwater so I couldn’t hear anything anymore, swimming down to the bottom, occasionally coming up for air. I don’t know why, I’d just rather be underwater than above it, it’s more peaceful. I felt a hand on my arm, causing me to scream while still under. I came up the surface to see Matt.
“You scared me.” I exclaimed.
“Why have you been out here for so long?” He asked.
“It doesn’t matter, don’t you need to go make out with your girlfriend or something?” I snapped, he just glared at me.
“She’s gone… Come on, Cassie was yelling for you.” He said.
“Do you love her?” I asked bluntly.
“What? I mean yeah—no—I don’t know…” He fumbled with his words, it was kind of cute when he got all flustered. “Are you in love with anyone?” He asked me, trying to change the subject.
“No, it’s better not to feel things.” I sighed. “Why do you think I drink instead of talk?” I chuckled; he narrowed his eyes at me. “Let’s go back now…” I trailed off as I started swimming back.

We got back to the shore, everyone else had pretty much left, it was just our stuff and some towels.
“They all left us!” I exclaimed, I had my arms crossed, hiding them from him.
“At least they were nice enough to leave some towels.” He chuckled. It had just occurred that
Matt was standing shirtless in front of me

But I managed to stop myself from staring.
“Ugh my sweater’s all ruined.” I groaned as I picked up my sweater, he just laughed. He tossed a towel to me, I attempted to dry my hair a little before wrapping it around myself. “What time is it?” I asked him. “
“1:30.” He answered as he checked his phone. I didn’t want to go home but I figured he did so I decided not to bother him.

We just walked back to our houses, I was still wearing a towel since I was half naked and my sweater was soaked. We actually talked quite a bit; Courtney would’ve strangled me if she was there.
“Matt, you’re nicer than I thought you’d be.” I chirped.
“Thank you?” He laughed. “You’re not so bad yourself blondie.” He smirked.
