Weird Girl

Normal for the Spider is Chaos for the Fly

The rest of the week went by fast, I went to school a little hung over on Wednesday, I just told people I was sick. My eyes looked red and tired, and I felt like shit. I threw up in the bathroom after 7th period, Courtney said I was probably purging to her friend. I walked past her quickly but did not escape so quickly when I bumped into Matt in the hallway.
"Whoa are you okay?" He asked, holding on to my shoulders.
"Yeah, I just gotta get home." I mumbled, I felt dizzy so I walked past him.

Matt's POV:
I was walking to Courtney's locker to meet her after school, I needed to tell her that I had to go to practice, which was always a drag. She never really got a long with my band, they were nice to her because they knew I liked her, but I know they didn't like her. I felt someone bump into me, it was Sarah. When I got a good look at her face I saw how pale and sick she looked, her eyes were red and she looked so tired. I grabbed her shoulders lightly, she looked like she was about to faint.
"Whoa are you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah I just gotta get home." She muttered, pushing past me and walking away quickly.
"What were you doing with that freak?" I heard Courtney say behind me. I sighed, I didn't understand why she had to treat people like that.
"Nothing she just looked like she was about to pass out." I said.
"Yeah because she was purging in the bathroom, no wonder she's so fucking skinny." She sneered. I sighed, Sarah was probably hung over, I knew that look anywhere. "Whatever, forget about the freak because I wanted to ask if you wanted to go out to dinner tonight? At 8? My dad knows the owner of this Italian restaurant that is to die for." She smiled, raising her eyebrows.
"Sorry, I can't, I have band practice." I told her, I actually felt bad about ditching her. Her face fell, her smile turned into a scowl.
"When are you gonna stop with that stupid band? It's not like it's a reliable career." She sighed, crossing her arms.
"Why can't you just be supportive?” I asked her, putting my hands in my pockets. She just rolled her eyes.
“Whatever Matt.” She sighed, walking away.

Sarah’s POV:
By the time it was Saturday, I hadn’t really thought of Matt that often. I was too busy making sure I didn’t fail all my classes and trying to get my mom not to drink so much. I know she loved me but she wasn’t acting like it, it didn’t really matter to me anymore, I had decided to stop crying, I became numb. My father tried to contact me often, I had made it clear that when he betrayed mom he betrayed me, I was done being hurt.

I’d decided to spend most of the day reading The Book Thief and listening to 90’s rock music. Cassie texted me a couple times about the concert. I hadn’t seen them, until she had called me. My phone started ringing, her ringtone was This is What Makes Us Girls by Lana Del Rey.
This is what makes us girls
We all look for heaven and we put our love first
Somethin' that we'd die for, it's our curse
Don't cry about it, don't cry about it
This is what makes us girls
We don't stick together 'cause we put our love first
Don't cry about him, don't cry about him
It's all gonna happen
The song played loudly before I heard it through the music that was playing in my headphones. I looked at my phone to see a picture of Cassie on the screen.
“Hey.” I greeted said into the phone.
“Are you going to the concert or not?” She asked, sounding slightly annoyed.
“Ugh fine.” I said, smirking.
“Wow thanks Sarah!” I could hear her grinning through the phone. “Come over now so we can get ready!” She exclaimed.
“We still have like 3 hours until we have to be there Cassie.” I reminded her.
“Yeah but I got the hair dye, didn’t you want to dye you hair blonde?” She asked.
“Oh yeah, thanks.” I smiled.
“Don’t mention it Sar, bye.” She said.
“Bye.”

I walked over to Cassie’s house, she only lived a few streets over. I knocked on her front door, her parents usually didn’t pay us much attention. She opened the door smiling, she looked like she had stepped out of an old movie, she was already ready.
“How are you already ready?!” I exclaimed.
“I was excited.” She laughed. “Now come on, let’s get you blonde.” She pulled me into her house by my hand.

Bleaching my hair was a weird process, the bleach irritated my scalp a little but I figured it was normal. I only wanted to dye my hair blonde because I wanted change, it was either this or black, but I felt like black would’ve been a little too much with my personality.Once my hair was dry I changed into the clothes I was going to wear.
“Does my hair look okay?” I asked her.
“Yeah! It looks so lovely Sarah.” She grinned. I looked at the mirror, I looked so different, I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not.

Cassie insisted on doing most of my makeup, probably because she knew my shaky hands would ruin my face even more.
“How are we getting there?” I asked her as she applied mascara to my eyelashes.
“Jimmy and Brian are picking us up in Matt’s car.” She said. “They’ll be here any minute.” She said, looking at her watch, putting the makeup away. I met Brian one other time, but I was drunk and I didn’t remember what he had said to me. I remembered that he always had a smirk on his face and a beer in his hand.

Not long after Cassie got a text from Jimmy letting her know he’s here, we were ready finally. I looked at my outfit one more time to make sure I looked okay.
I lit a cigarette as soon as we got outside as Cassie locked the door behind her. I looked at the car in the driveway, Brian was getting out of the front seat and moving to the backseat, Jimmy probably made him move so he could sit next to Cassie, that made me smile a little. We got into the car, I couldn’t help but recognize the smell as Matt’s which made me realize that might be a problem, but I chose to ignore it.
“Whoa Cassie you didn’t tell me your friend was so pretty.” Brian smirked as I shut the door. He was either joking or indirectly flirting, either way I rolled my eyes. Jimmy, Brian and Cassie all engaged in conversations during the car ride. But I never talk much during car rides, I usually just zone out looking out the window and think about everything. Sometimes I could understand why people thought I was strange or unapproachable, but sometimes I just thought they were the weird ones. Life’s funny like that, normal means nothing, what’s normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.
