My Blood Lines Are With You

Surprise?

I've stopped multiple times on the way to California but one thing weighs on my mind. Should I call Val or not? I know she'll be thrilled about me coming home after all this time but maybe I just need to get back to my home and sort things out before really going over there. I continued my drive to California after topping off my gas and stopping to eat. I seen that welcome to California sign and I breathed in a sigh of relief. It took another 3 hours to get o Huntington Beach but I made it. I pulled down my street and then into my driveway. I got out and grabbed a few bags of my clothes and went up and uplocked the front door. I flicked on the light and immediately went upstairs and started unpacking.

After I had everything unpacked, I laid down in bed covering myself up. I stared down at Val's name in my phone and I just wanted so bad to call or at least text her. Maybe I could text her in the morning? Hell why don't I just show up unexpectedly. My mind was so engulfed in what to do that I tired myself out and quietly went off to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up with the sun shining in my face and my phone blinking saying it was almost dead. I quickly put my phone on charge and went down to the kitchen to look for something to eat. I checked the cabinets and there wasn't anything and the fridge was bare. I guess I'll be going out to treat myself to breakfast. I ran back upstairs and grabbed some clothes and went into the bathroom and locked the door behind me. I ran the water letting it warm up and stripped all my clothes off letting them lie there on the floor. I stepped into the shower and the warm water hit the bruises I had. I rubbed over them gently as I washed my body and scrubbing away yesterdays grime. I got out of the shower after I felt like I was clean and I wrapped my towel tightly around me. I dried myself off and changed into the clothes and left the bathroom leaving my dirty clothes on the bathroom floor.
I slipped on my shoes and ran my brush through my hair before blow drying it a little. I grabbed my phone off the charger and heading out of the house with some cash and getting into my car. I drove to the Mickey D's in town and sat down after getting my food. After I finished eating, I headed to the store and started filling a cart full of food. I knew I had at least 300 dollars worth of food in there but it wouldn't go to waste. I paid for the food and loaded up the food into my car. I got back in and headed back to the house which didn't take long at all. I unloaded all the bags from my car and put them into the kitchen where I put everything where it was supposed to go. I threw away some of the plastic bags and sat down staring at my phone. Val would be home right now...I think I'll head over there right now. I grabbed my phone and left the house once again and headed towards Val's house.
As I got close, I only seen her car and I was glad of that. I pulled into the driveway and cut off the engine and got out of the car. Everything still looked the same on the outside. I just hope she'll remember me. I reached my hand up and knocked on the door. I heard footsteps coming towards the door and then being met with the eyes of Val.
"Roxy?"
"Surprise?" I said making it sound like a question.
"This is a wonderful surprise! Please come on in!" she stepped aside and I walked into her home. Everything was still the same. It was still the loving and warm home it was all those years ago. I followed her into the kitchen just like I did whe I first came here to apply for the job she has advertising in the paper. I sat down at the bar and she leaned over in front of me propping herself on her elbows.
"Damn...how you been Roxy?"
"I've been better." I said honestly.
"Why's that? You did finish that school in Arizona right?"
"Yes...I'm a ceritifed Motorcycle Electrician." I said nodding before looking down at my hands.
"Is there something wrong?"
"Yeah...I guess there is." I said nodding my head and never looking up at her.
"What is it Roxy? Are you in some kind of trouble?"
"I am with a man. My boyfriend had probably found out by now that I'm in California. When I graduated from the MMI school, I was going to start my own business but Roe wouldn't let me. He said a woman shouldn't be doing a man's work but he ain't much of a man when he won't get a job. Anyways to make a long story short...when I did find a job and I refused to quit...he started hitting on me." I explained keeping my gaze to my rough skinned hands.
"He beat you?"
"Yeah...I never thought I would ever let someone do that to me. My good friend Lee is the one who convinced me to come home to California. She had me giving some moneyso she could save back so I could get here.I'm afraid that he'll come after me." I said glancing up at her.
"Don't worry Roxy. Did he know what part of California you came from?"
"I told him Huntington Beach but nothing more than that. I still have the money from my secret bank account and he doesn't know about that either. If he did, all I would have to do is change the password on it." I said as Val placed a beer down in front of me. I looked up at her.
"I think you need that.
" "How about something stronger? Maybe some Jack Daniels." I said smiling. She nodded with a smile and went to the freezer grabbing the bottle out and 2 shot glasses. She poured me a glass full and I gulped it down. Ever since I've been away, I started drinking some hard stuff just to get my mind off the pain I had. Val poured me another one and I drunk it down as well. I was feeling a whole lot better now after the drink.
"So where's Sky?" I asked setting the shot glass down.
"The guys took him to the carnival. You know he missed you so much. We put the days you had left at school on the calendar and when you never called or showed back up here, he thought maybe you forgot about all of us but I can tell you have never left his mind."
"He's never left my mind Val. None of you have. I was going to call you while I was gone but Roe bought me a new phone and had control over it. As I was going down the interstate, I threw the damn thing out the window." I said smiling.
"That sounds like something you would do."
"Yeah and I made him think I got rid of the other phone I had but I just had it cut off and before I left Arizona I had it turned back on. Lee gave me her number before I left so we could keep in touch. She's thinking about coming here when she gets some vacation time." I said taking the bottle from her and pouring me another shot.
"I would love to meet her."
"You'll like her Val. She's like my twin...well a mental twin." I said shrugging.
"Oh well that should be truely interesting." I laughed and told her about what we would do when I wasn't working. I explained to her that I had to tell Roe that I was working so I could go to her house and hang out with her. Roe didn't have a clue where Lee lives so it was great and my boss wouldn't tell anyone where Lee lives without her permission but he had to hear her say it was okay to give out personal information. We sat around and talked the day away. It felt so good to talk to Val after all these years and I just hope none of the guys are mad because I hadn't shown up until now.
I swear I'm on a roll with my updating!
On a better note, I have a few new stories being written as we speak and I just hope they're good but they will not be posted until they are completed.
