Seize The Day

Matt led me into my room. “Now strip.” He said setting the empty bottle on my dresser.
“I literally just broke up with my boyfriend.” I said I was trying to joke but it failed because Matt just looked at me.
“Idiot your clothes are full of sand and you need to shower you smell.” He said jokingly pinching his nose and making a face. “While you shower I’ll make something for you to eat. What do you want?” He asked turning towards my door.
“Oh uhm just make whatever.” I said turning towards my bathroom pulling off my shirt. I stood in the shower for thirty minutes just enjoying the hot water running down my body it felt so relaxing I’ve been tense ever since my fight with Zacky. I started to have flashbacks to our fight and breakup when there was a knock on the bathroom door.
“The food’s done.” Matt called opening the bathroom door a bit.
“’Kay I’ll be out in a sec.” I said I washed my hair quickly and gave my body a quick scrub down. I got out and wrapped a towel around me and another around my hair. I walked into my room I put on some shorts and an oversized hoodie. “So what did you make me?” I asked walking out of my room drying my hair with the towel.
“Spaghetti.” Matt said turning around with a plate of pasta in each hand and a giant grin on his face.
“Looks edible.” I said examining the plate in his hand. Matt made a face, “I’m kidding I’m sure it’s delicious.” I said taking a plate and sitting down at the breakfast bar, Matt sat down next to me. I twirled some noodles onto the end of my fork and stopped. “Are you going to stay the night?” I asked glancing over at Matt who chocked on a mouthful of pasta.
“Wh-what?” Matt stuttered looking at me shocked.
“Not that way stupid. Just Cassy is out with Brian and I don’t really want to be alone tonight.” I said looking down at my plate.
“Of course I’ll stay.” Matt said his voice soft. We ate in silence and Matt washed the dishes. “Let’s go to bed.” He said drying his hands with a dish towel. I nodded and walked into my bedroom. I crawled into my bed pulling the covers up to my face they stilled smelled like Zacky and it made my eyes start to water. I felt Matt sit down on the bed next to me. “Scoot over” He said I moved over and he laid down next to me. “Come here.” He said pulling me into his chest and that’s when I let it go, lying in Matt’s arms surrounded by Zacky’s scent, all the anger and frustration and sadness came out. I cried until I fell asleep Matt never letting go of me just patting my head and telling me everything will be okay.
I rolled over to face the person next to me in bed they were so warm and comforting , they’re arms were wrapped around me and it felt so good, like coming home from a long vacation. I turned my face up and they kissed my forehead lightly, I opened my eyes and saw the most beautiful hazel eyes I’ve ever seen in my life looking back at me. “Good morning.” Matt said softly, his voice was raspy with sleep.
“Good morning.” I said sitting up and stretching. My eyes were killing me and were no doubt swollen and I hated it. “Want some breakfast?” I asked looking back at Matt. Before he could answer my bedroom door slammed open and a very tired and angry looking Cassy was standing in my doorway.
“YOU broke up with him?!” She yelled at me. “You broke up last night and you’re already in bed with HIM!” She yelled pointing at Matt angrily.
“Cass wait it’s not that way.” I said looking back at Matt who looked kind of scared.
“What do you mean it’s not that way huh?!” She was beyond pissed. “Zacky ruined my night with Brian because he came stumbling in drunk talking about how you broke up and you were cheating with Matt.” She said her voice was cold and she crossed her arms over her chest.
“Okay, first of all you cranky bitch Matt’s here as my friend since you weren’t, and two I never cheated on him and you know that,” I stood up, “I’m sorry he ruined your night but don’t come in here blaming it all on me.” I said walking up to her, I only had an inch on her but fighting Cassy was like being around a bear you make yourself look bigger and they back off.
She let out a loud sigh. “Ugh why do you always have to have complicated relationships?” She groaned turning away walking into the living room.
“You really think it want a complicated relationship?” I asked leaning against the door jam. When I woke up this morning I was feeling nice and refreshed but now I felt tired all over again.
“I know I’m sorry.” She said flopping back on the couch. “I’m sorry to both of you.” She said looking back at me and Matt who was now standing behind me.
“It’s alright it’s kind of my fault.” Matt said looking at the floor. “I shouldn’t have said anything to him.”
“It’s not your fault it would have happened sooner or later. They always sooner is better than later anyways.” I said pushing away from the door jam and walking into the kitchen.
“So why did you two break up?” Cassy asked looking up at the ceiling she looked tired. I didn’t doubt that she stayed up helping Brian comfort Zacky and it made me feel like an asshole.
“I am really sorry that he ruined your night with Brian.” I said leaning against the counter I could feel a headache coming on.
“I told you it’s alright. I mean this in the most offensive way possible, you have literally the worst taste in men. “Cassy said looking at her phone screen. “They’re either so insecure it’s painful or they have serious anger issues and punch out a sailor in Annapolis.” She said putting her phone up so I would look at her screen. I walked around the counter and when I looked at her screen I was shocked. There was a mug shot of Aaron with the headline reading “Local man arrested for a bar fight involving a sailor in downtown Annapolis”
“Holy shit.” Matt said walking up behind me looking at her phone.
“Oh my god this is beautiful. I kind of want to frame this.” I said laughing looking at Aarons face he had a black eye and a cut lip and his eyes were full of anger.
“You are such a sadist.” Cassy said taking her phone back. “Shall we go out for breakfast? Matt’s treat.”
“I guess I’ll buy you breakfast since I ruined your night.” Matt said fluffing Cassy’s hair.
“Alright let me go change first.” I said walking back into my room and put on leggings and a loose tank top. Matt drove us to the Ihop, which was surprisingly empty for a Friday morning.
“By the way Cass how did you get home?” I asked flipping after we had been seated.
“I took a taxi since Brian is still babysitting him. When I left this morning he was still drunk.” She said before taking a drink of water.
“Sorry, I tried to find him last night but he wouldn’t answer my calls and then Johnny called me and told me Kay was on the beach drinking alone.” Matt said picking up his menu.
“It’s alright at least you found her before she did something stupid.” Cassy said looking at me over her glass.
“And what stupid thing would I do?” I asked offended that they both thought I would do something stupid.
“Please you probably would have gotten drunk and then went to the club and made poor decisions.” Cassy said setting down her glass and picking up a menu.
“Touché.” I leaned back in my chair as the waitress came by to get our order. After that we didn’t talk about last night we talked about everything but, Matt told Cassy embarrassing stories about Brian and in return we told him embarrassing stories about each other.
Matt dropped us off and told us he was going to Brain’s to check on Zacky. “I think I was wrong about him.” Cassy said was we walked back into the house.
“What do you mean?” I asked tossing my keys into the bowl.
“I thought he was just hung up on you because you were a groupie he slept with but he actually really cares.” Cassy said sitting on the recliner. “Maybe you two should have been the ones dating from the start. But at least now you have a chance.” She said leaning back.
“Oh no I’m taking a break from dating.” I said shaking my head. “Besides they leave for tour in less than a month and what’s the point of starting dating when they’ll be gone for eight weeks.” I said sitting on the couch.
“What if someone steals him away during that time?” She asked leaning forward.
“Then that’s what happens. Besides I don’t believe in getting into a new relationship right after one ended. Especially after being accused of cheating with Matt. That would just look bad."
“Yeah, yeah I know.” Cass said leaning back in the chair again.
“Besides in two months if we both still feel this way then maybe.” I said I felt some heat rise to my face because Cassy was staring at me intently. “Now can we please just drop this and just watch a movie or something?” Cassy nodded and picked a horror movie to watch.
