Seize The Day

I was taking a bubble bath after a long day at the bar when my phone started ringing, when I flipped it over to see the caller ID I was shocked to see it was Zacky, I quickly dried my hands off with a towel and answered.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Kay” Zacky paused. “Can we uh talk in person?” He asked.
“Uhm sure, can you give me like thirty minutes?” I asked looking at the clock on my bathroom wall it was almost nine at night.
“Yeah, I’ll meet you on the beach.” Zacky said he sounded tired.
“I’ll see you in a bit then.” I said hanging up and dropping my phone on the floor before sliding into the bubbles. I knew what he wanted to talk about but I didn’t know if I wanted to fix our relationship I was becoming confused with my feelings, did I really want a romantic relationship with Matt, what about my feelings for Zacky? What he did pissed me off but I still had feelings for him. I stood up and pulled the plug on my bath I stepped out and wrapped a towel around myself. I left my hair up and only fixed my smudged makeup before going to my room and pulling on a pair of shorts with a tank top and a flannel.
“Where are you going?” Cassy asked when I walked out of my room. Brian was over and they were cuddling on the couch watching a movie.
“I’m craving ice cream so I was going to the shop down the street.” I said walking to the front door.
“Be careful.” Cassy said as I closed the front door behind me. I jogged across the street to the beach, at first I couldn’t find Zacky but as I walked closer to the ocean I could make out his silhouette.
“Hey.” I said walking up next to him, Zacky jumped at the sound of my voice.
“Oh hey, you’re a bit early.” He said looking out to the ocean.
“If you aren’t done collecting your thoughts I can walk away and come back in ten minutes.” I said glancing at him before looking at the sand.
“I’m really sorry Kaylin. I was such an asshole for not calling you and over such a stupid reason and I know I should have talked to you about it.” Zacky said turning to look at me.
“Yes you are an asshole Zack and it really was a stupid reason. But what I don’t understand it why you didn’t talk to me about it; we were in a relationship they only way to have a good relationship is to talk about what’s bothering you. I’m not a mind reader; if I was then we could have avoided this.” I felt heavy and tired.
“I want to fix this.” Zacky said grabbing my hand. My heart hurt as I looked at his eyes.
I sighed and pulled my hand away. “Maybe we should give it a little break, you leave for tour soon so we’ll talk again when you come back.” I could see the hurt in his eyes and it was killing me, he looked like a puppy that I just kicked and I wanted to hug him but I knew it would be better if I didn’t.
Zacky looked down. “I understand.” His voice sounded so sad and I had to fight myself not to hold him.
“Do you want to go get ice cream?” I asked looking up at the sky.
“What? Now?” Zacky looked up surprised.
“Yes, now that’s why I asked.” I said looking at him and smiling. When I smiled at Zacky his entire body relaxed and that’s what I wanted, for him to relax and not worry about us for now. I turned and headed back to the street Zacky following me. We walked to the ice cream shop near the pier he ordered mint chocolate chip and I got birthday cake.
“How can you eat the crap?” Zacky asked as we walked along the pier.
“Because it tastes exactly like cake batter and I won’t get food poisoning.” I said before taking a bite of ice cream. “I would have gotten mint but I hate chocolate.
“That is a lie I’ve seen you shove an entire snickers in your mouth before.” Zacky said laughing.
“It has caramel that’s the only way I can eat chocolate. And you can’t bash this without trying it.” I said offering him my ice cream cone. He eyed my smiling face suspiciously. “I’m not going to shove it in your face that’s food abuse, just try it.” I said waving the cone slowly in front of his face.
“Fine,” Zacky said before taking a bite. He looked surprised. “That’s actually really good. Let’s switch.” He said taking my cone out of my hand.
“No I don’t want your nasty chocolate tainted ice cream.” I said snatching my cone back.
Zacky laughed a real laugh. “You’re so childish.” He said putting his arm around my shoulders. He realized what he’s done and was about to pull his arm away.
“It’s okay.” I said smiling at him as I wrapped my free arm around his waist. I knew I was setting myself up for the biggest heartbreak of my entire life but I couldn’t stop myself.
