Promise You Paradise

Let me just make this clear, I absolutely, irrevocably, adore my mother, she works so hard to keep all of us that live in this house content and fully nourished, but… she loves to nag, and that is exactly what was waiting for me as I walked into the kitchen area. She was standing in front of the sink, halfway through washing dishes, not that she was paying attention to the dishes now. Nope, now she was tapping her right foot, her hands on her hips, waiting for me. “Hiya mom.” I say walking to the fridge to take out a bottle of water.

“What did I tell you about fighting in school?” She started. “Do you want to get suspended, do you enjoy damaging your permanent record! You barely do a thing at home and now you’re off punching other students! Young lady, you give me one good reason as to why you did that or you’re grounded for the rest of the week!”

‘First of all, all I did was give his face a make-over, it was not a big deal.” I looked up, popping the bottle open and taking a swig as I leaned back against the fridge. “And yesterday I washed the dishes, and vacuumed the carpet, this is why I don’t do shit around the house, because when I actually do something you don’t appreciate it, but hey, let me punch one person and all hell breaks loose”

“What have I told you about cussing?!” My shouted now. “You’re grounded, Bailey, as of tomorrow you go to school, get home, do your homework and go to bed!”

“So?” I snapped. ‘That’s exactly what we do every day anyways, you need to get a little more creative, mom!” I marched out of the kitchen ignoring her as she kept nagging at me, I climbed the stairs with heavy footfalls making sure she could hear exactly where I was, I reached my bed room and slipped inside slamming the door shut. I realized I left my bag at the kitchen entrance and decided to hell with it. I was not going to go back in there. I’m grounded right, so I guess this is my cell and if my bag was all the way in freedom land, I don’t need to do any homework. I leaned across my bed to reach my iPod, once I acquired it, I plugged in my earphones and drowned the world out with some good ole’ Guns N’ Roses.

I guess I must’ve fallen asleep, because all of a sudden my music was cut off, and my body was being shaken. I opened my eyes to find Hailey knelt down on my bed beside me. “Wake-y, wake-y sleepy head” she smiled down at me. I groaned and lifted myself up rubbing at my eyes, then running my hand down my hair smoothing the strands that had gotten tousled.

“What’s up?” I yawned, looking around my iPod, only to find it buried beneath my pillows.

“Mom’s taking her nap” Hailey spoke softly, her voice was always a soft quiet tone. It was very soothing. Sometimes you wouldn’t believe she was my twin sister, we really tended to be quite opposites.

I smirked, I had a feeling Hailey was thinking the same thing I was, and I was loving it. Hailey wasn’t wild, but I knew she had it in her. We were sisters after all, some of me had to be in there. I ruffled her vibrant hair and let out a laugh. “God, I love you little one! That is a brilliant idea!”

“But, I didn’t tell you it yet.” She laughed, knowing well enough that she didn’t really have to.

I jumped off my bed heading towards the closet, grabbing my extra pair of Converse. “Let’s ditch these bitches.” I said slipping my sneakers on, before grabbing a different shirt to wear. After I put it on, I let Hailey lead the way. Hailey’s quiet demeanor really works to our advantage during these moments, she always knows how to sneak up on people, even myself. I watched her slowly slip my door open and sliding out, I followed suit, letting her work on closing my door and then we hit the stairs and quickly manage to leave the house. We couldn’t take the car of course, mom wasn’t supposed to find out.

“I guess you’re grounded, huh.” Hailey stated.

I groaned. “Yea, mom really needs to figure out a new punishment, maybe take away my homework or something. Dimples got what he deserved anyways, so I guess it doesn’t matter.” I looked over at my sis and put out my arm for her, she smiled and hooked hers through mine and then we proceeded down the road. “So, should we sing the Dora song” I joked, sticking my tongue out at Hailey. When we were younger, we used to skip around the backyard looking for hidden treasures shouting out the theme song.

“Let’s walk by the beach!” my sister said with a hint of enthusiasm in her voice. She always liked the beach, not swimming though, just the shore, walking barefoot through the sand, skipping across where the water touched and receded. The beach was beautiful, we both slipped off our sneakers and walked onto the golden brown sand feeling it warm our soles. One side of the beach was filled with people, so Hailey pulled me into the other direction, it was empty with only three to four tiny group of people laying around letting the sun bronze up their skin. We were both so out of place, with our long jeans and carrying our sneakers. Hailey was the one leading the way, beaches always did that to her, and I loved it. I always enjoy when Hailey feels comfortable. I let her guide me wherever she wanted to go, it was towards the ocean first, where she tentatively touched the top of the water with the tips of her toes. “Nice and warm” she spoke, before pulling me back to walk alongside the ocean, feeling the water tickle our feet. That’s when I heard it, my head snapped in that direction and so did Hailey’s. I didn’t know if she just followed my reaction, but she figured out that I wanted to follow the sound.

It was covered by tall trees, and had rocks around it, but I could see a group of people sitting beneath the shadows of the trees and the sound of guitars were beautiful, powerful and loud and I had to walk in, so I did, and felt Hailey’s arm wrap around mine as she followed. I guess they spotted me first, because all of a sudden I had a tall skinny guy in front of me pushing me into a tight hug, pulling me off the ground. I started kicking against him, so he dropped me and I looked up to find, what was his name again? “Uh, Johnny right” I spoke, but I guess I picked the wrong name because he let out a loud gasp and looked pretty offended. “Whatever, just don’t fucking pull me up like that ever again.”

“Guys! She called me Johnny,” he put his hand to his heart dramatically and flayed backwards dropping into Dimples’ lap. “Johnny! Matt, out of all the shits in the world, she had to choose Johnny”

“Why did it have to be you guys?”

“Hey, we bust your ass out of detention lady”

“Oh right, I guess I owe you guys, how do you want to be repaid, I offer an endless amount of sarcasm or a stream of cusses designed for each and every one of you.”

“I like her” the tall one announced. “Yep, I do…”

“So what was your name again?”

“Jimmy right…” Hailey spoke softly from next to me. Hailey was always better than me at names. When she noticed that all eyes went towards her, she ducked a little and waved. I smiled at her reaction, she just looks super adorable. I looked up at the guys, who were all still staring at my sister and my defense kicked it. ‘Whatcha looking at boys?”

Green eyes flashed towards me before it was lowered to the ground, damn I forgot that one’s name to, but the one who spoke was one that was almost as buff or maybe buffer than Matt is, right, his name was Brian. “Your sis is too quiet dude, is she always going to be startling us like this?”

I couldn’t stop myself from laughing.
