Unholy Nightmare

When I had woken up it was morning and the clouds were no longer lingering in the sky. I grabbed my bag and pulled out a can of my vegetables plus a spoon and I make what I can of the breakfast. I really didn't want to get up and cook anything so I decided just to make it quick, simple, and easy. When I finished, I put my spoon back into one of the small compartments on my bag. I just about jumped out of my skin when a scream came from outside. I got up and went outside with my gun and another yell rang out through the woods. Whoever was screaming was very close by. I ran off into the woods and I could see a little girl sitting up in a tree with flesh eaters all around her. I could tell from here that she was frightened beyond compare. I pointed my weapon towards the flesh eaters and took them down one by one. The little girl looked around and I made my presence known.

"Do you see anymore from up there?" I asked as Cujo sat down beside my legs.

"No. They're all gone."

"Come on down." I said and she looked around once more before slowly climbing down the side.

"What's your name?"

"Mylo Baker and yours?" she asked politely with a smile.

"I'm Violet Carmike but most people just call me Violence."

"It's nice to meet you and thanks for saving me." she said shaking my hand. For someone to be as young as her, she has damn good manners. She must have been raised to show others respect.

"It's nice to meet you as well. Why are you out here all by yourself?"

"A while back I was with my dad and uncles and we were celebrating my birthday but when a group of those things came I ran off." she explained.

"How long ago?"

"I don't really know. My dad gave my this on the 16th of June." she said holding onto the necklace.

"You've been on your own for 7 weeks. How in the world have you survived? I mean I haven't seen a weapon on you."

"I hid all the time and I discovered a town not to far from here and I got me some food." she said and I was very surprised.

"I wish I knew which way to go."

"Why don't I help you locate them? Maybe they can help me as well." I suggested.

"I'm sure they would since you saved me from those things."

"Sweet! How about we get started first thing in the morning that way we have the whole day to look." I said and she nodded. I showed her the way to the rundown cabin I'm temporarily staying at.

Cujo ran inside and laid down in his normal spot next to the couch while I grabbed my bag and pulled out my last pack of Reese's. I handed them to her and she smiled.

"Thank you."

"No problem but watch Cujo carefully. He likes to beg when there's candy around." I said and she chuckled. When the wrapper made a noise Cujo got up and started begging.

"Cujo, go lay down." I commanded in a firm tone and he went back to his spot.

"What kind of dog is he?"

"He's a Pit Bull." I answered and you could hear the gentle thump of his tail connecting with the wood floor.

"I've always heard that they are dangerous but he seems very loving and friendly."

"They can be dangerous but it's all on how you treat them. If they've been abused then they turn into killers but if they are treated like Cujo, they are the sweetest and the best of protectors. I explained and she nodded in understanding.

"I have 2 dogs but I don't really know their breeds. They are the sweetest and they're always so playful. My uncle Matt and Brian have dogs too."

"Are they cool around strange dogs?" I asked as I took the candy wrappers from her and placed them inside my bag.

"They're the most loving dogs in the world next to yours and they are really good with other dogs."

"I guess I'll get to meet them one day." I said smiling but I just hope the group she's with will help me. If not then I'll have to find some means of transportation other than walking.
