Unholy Nightmare

It's amazing how one person can be so klutzy in just 6 years of time. I can't even begin to count how many times I've turned my ankles, fell, or pulled muscles in various places on my body. I've even been stupid enough to walk farther than I should and make my feet swell and burn like there's a flame on them. You would think I'd pay more attention in the unfamiliar surroundings I'm in but I guess I don't Evidently some force doesn't want me to reach my destination without a fight. I'm guessing that it's not challenging enough with the flesh eaters.

I haven't found a good place to rest in days because of those fucking flesh eaters forcing me to completely take to the woods. I need to find some kind of shelter because from the looks of the clouds up above, it's about to pour down. I walked on through the trees as quickly as I could until I finally found a cabin. I breathed out a sigh of relief as I walked up onto the porch. I pushed the door open with my weapon at the ready. I searched every inch of the cabin but it was abandoned. The cabin is pretty run down but at least it would give me plenty of shelter from the upcoming rain. I laid my bag down beside me on the couch and decided to take a much needed and deserved nap before continuing on.

I think we have finally found a place to call our own. We've been at the same farm house for a little over 6 years and I've only seen a handful of flesh eaters. For the first month, I was always keeping watch. Not just for the flesh eaters but for anyone who might come back to claim this house but no one ever came. Another good thing about this place is that it's close to town. We can get in and out with whatever we need and then get home without spending so much time out in the open.

Today Brian, Zacky, and I are taking Mylo into town to get her a birthday present while Johnny and Jimmy are getting the house made up for the surprise birthday party. You're probably wondering why I didn't include Lacey. Well...she took her own life a little over 3 years ago. She didn't do it because she couldn't take the world anymore. No...she took her life because she was bitten. She begged us for hours to end her suffering but none of us could do it. Johnny wasn't right for almost 2 years and on numerous occasions we had to save his ass but when I sat down with him and gave him a lecture of understanding...he came back to his normal self.

Mylo skipped happily around the house like any carefree 8 year old would be on their day of birth. I loaded my weapon as Mylo ate her breakfast and it gave me a chance to think about where we would go is someone was to come back here after all this time. I know I've ran that thought through my mind so many times that I've lost track.

"Dad, when are we going into town?" Mylo asked impatiently.

"You'll have to ask Uncle Matt. He's the one that's driving us."

"Uncle Matt? Can we go into town now?" she asked using those big green eyes and pouty lips on me.

"I'm ready if Brian and your father are." she looked over at Brian and he stood up. Then she looked over at her father.

"Yes pumpkin we're ready."

"Yay!" she yelled in excitement. I shook my head and grabbed my weapon. We went out to my car and headed into town.

After Matt, Brian, and Zacky left with Mylo to go into town to buy for her birthday, Jimmy and I started decorating the outside of the house. We had collected the decorations and party favors secretly and hid them in one of the closets. We hung up streamers and a sign that told her Happy Birthday. Mylo was going to have one hell of a birthday party. I just wish Lacey could be here to enjoy it with us.

We went to every store Mylo wanted to go until we had almost filled the backseat but I'm waiting to see the reaction she'll get when Zacky gives her his gift. He had spotted a beautiful necklace in a display case at one of the stores we went into. It had a gold chain with a heart shaped pendant. The pendant had her name etched into it with tiny red stones all around it. I have a feeling she'll be thanking him and keeping it on all the time. I opened the console and pulled out one of my bandanas and handed it to Zacky.

"We have a few more surprises for you so I have to put tis over your eyes."

"What kind of surprises?" Mylo asked as she looked up from her dolls.

"If we told you then it wouldn't be a surprise." she nodded and Zacky tied the bandana around her head and made sure she couldn't see anything. A minutes later we arrived back to the house and I could see the decorations Jimmy and Johnny had put up. They actually did a damn good job. I helped Mylo from the car and we all guided her over to the front of the house.

"Are you ready Mylo?" Zacky asked smiling down at his blindfolded daughter. She nodded quickly and he pulled the bandana from her eyes. Mylo was completely stunned by the hard work that Jimmy and Johnny had put in to make everything special for her.

"Wow...this is amazing!" she said looking around at everything.

"We're glad you like it sweetheart."

"I don't just like it daddy...I love it." she said going around and giving everyone a hug to say thank you.

Zacky had spent the whole night before baking her a cake, not to mention decorating and hiding it. We sat around and just had one f the best times we've had in a very long time. When Zacky gave her his present, she was awestruck. She constantly hugged her father and thanked him for the wonderful present. Mylo is one happy little girl.

While Mylo played with her toys, we started cleaning up the mess. I was coming out of the house when I seen a horde of flesh eaters coming out of the woods.

"Flesh eaters!!" I yelled and I started unloading on the bastards. The guys joined in and we took all of them down one by one. We each were careful to make our shots hit right in their skulls. When all of them were defeated, their bodies littered the ground and the diseased blood and brain matter saturated the soil. I spotted Mylo's toys that were still under the tree where she was playing. I looked around but she wasn't no where to be found.

"Where's Mylo?" I asked and Zacky ran through the house calling her name in a panic.

"She's not here!" Zacky ran from the house and screamed her name.

"Zacky calm down! We'll find her." I said grabbing him by the shoulders to get his attention.

"Calm down?! She's out there somewhere!"

"I know but if you don't calm down, you won't any good to us when we search." I said and he slowly scanned the area hoping to spot his little one so he could run after he and scoop her up into his arms but she wasn't anywhere in sight. All we have to do is search for her but the only problem is that she could be anywhere in these woods.
