Complicated Love

A Trip to the Store

Jimmy was at a band meeting when I got home so it was only Titan who greeted me at the door today. I walked into my house and saw my gigantic dog headed my way. I managed to move my stuff out of the way before he tackled me to the ground.
The good thing about dogs is that they love unconditionally, and no matter what your day was like, they are still happy to see you.
I went into the kitchen to fill up his bowl then I changed my clothes and fell face first onto my bed. I was exhausted and all I wanted was a nap. I was starting to nod off when my phone rang.
I groaned as I got off the bed to get my cell which was on the kitchen counter.
"Hello?"
"So what happened to 'I'll call you tomorrow, I promise'?"
"Hi Kayla," I said as I sat on my couch. "Look, Saturday was my birthday and I had major drama with an ex and then I was told that my now boyfriend's band is going on tour next week for eight months. Then today was my first day of teaching by myself and my boss came onto me. I've been busy."
I heard Kayla squeal over the other line. "Oh my goodness! Details now!"
So over the next thirty minutes I filled my friend in on the last two drama filled weeks of my life.
At the end of my story Kayla said, "So you're dating the drummer from a famous band and you never told me?"
"I wasn't dating him until a week ago, Kayla." I sighed.
"No, but you've been best friends with him basically you're whole life. We shared an apartment for almost two years. Why am I just now knowing about this?"
Of course, leave it to Kayla to make you feel guilty for not telling her every single thing about yourself ranging from your favorite color to who you grew up with.
"Come on Kayla. I didn't tell you because it's my business. So what if they're famous? I knew Jimmy before he joined even Pinkly Smooth."
"Huh?" Kayla said. Of course she wouldn't know about that. She barely even knew who Avenged Sevenfold were. All she cared about is that they were famous.
"Nevermind," I said. "Look, sweetie, I love you but I have to go. I am exhausted."
"Mhmm. You just want to be with that famous drummer of yours."
I rolled my eyes but remembered she couldn't see me. "I really wish you'd stop referring to him like that. Jimmy is way more than just a drummer. He is my best friend and the man I love. I see way more than the fame which is apparently all you think about. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to take a nap. Bye, Kayla."
I hung up the phone, put it on the table then I stretched out on my couch and fell asleep.
When I woke up, I was still on the couch, but my head was on somebody's lap and my TV was on.
I turned my head around and smiled when I saw Jimmy's face looking down at me.
"Well good morning, sleeping booty," he said.
I laughed and sat up. "It's beauty, babe."
Jimmy furrowed his brow. "Are you sure?"
I nodded. "Damn," he said. "No wonder I've been confused all these years."
I laughed again and I kissed him. After a few minutes, I pulled away and stood up and headed for my kitchen. The clock said 6:45.
"How long have you been here and how long have I been asleep?"
Jimmy got up, walked to my kitchen and leaned against the counter. "Well I got here about half an hour ago and you were out like a light on the couch. So I just sat down and watched some TV."
I wrapped my arms around him. "Why didn't you wake me?"
"You are so cute when you're asleep," he said. I felt him shrug. "But now you're awake and I'm starving. What you got to eat?"
I pulled away from him to look in my fridge. I groaned when I saw what was in there. "It's like a barren wasteland in here."
Jimmy came up behind me and peered into the fridge. "Why do you only have moldy rice and spicy mustard? Even my fridge has more food."
I playfully hit his shoulder. "I haven't been grocery shopping yet and I've only eaten at home once or twice since I got home. Hince the moldy rice stuff."
"So," Jimmy said, standing up straight. "We go to the store."
"Ok." I grabbed my keys and threw them at him. "But you drive. I'm still sleepy."
I swear, being at the store with Jimmy is worse than being there with three kids. From the moment we walked in, he was running around everywhere asking for everything he saw. Even at one point he had gone over to the produce section and asked a lady to feel his coconuts. I had to resort to making him hold on to the buggy but after a few minutes that wasn't working anymore because he found the cereal aisle.
"Ooh Brooke! They got Cooooooooooooooooooookie Crisp! I want Cookie Crisp!" Jimmy yelled, scaring a woman and her child.
I jokingly glared at Jimmy. "You can get it when you are the one paying."
His eyes lit up. "So I'll pay for everything you're getting!" he said as he threw the cereal into the basket. Then he ran off to grab everything else he wanted.
Soon my buggy was overflowing with so much food, Jimmy had to get another one. Now that we had two, he wanted to race me. "Come one, Duckie. It'll be fun."
So I raced him, but of course he won because he had the longest legs and I had the heaviest buggy.
"I am the victor. But my name is Jimmy! Victor Jimmy!" he was yelling as he rounded the corner and out of my sight.
I was standing alone trying to catch my breath and laughing at my boyfriend. I was still standing in the aisle when a lady came up to me.
"Hi, my name is Marilyn. That young gentleman that was yelling and running around, do you know him?" she said. She was probably around the age of fifty or so.
I nodded. "Yeah. He's my best friend and my boyfriend."
"I'm so sorry." Marilyn said as she put her hand on my arm.
I looked at her confused. "Sorry for what?"
"For you, dearie. You have to put up with such an immature young man. If I were you, I'd look into getting him some help or getting away. That kind of behavior is never good for a relationship."
I pulled my arm away from her. This lady was out of her mind, talking to a complete stranger that way. "Excuse me, but I don't think my relationship is any of your fucking business lady. You can't just walk up to somebody you don't even know and start criticizing their life."
Marilyn was shaking her head. "I only meant-"
"I know what you meant," I interupted. "Now let me tell you something. Jimmy happens to be one of the most amazing people I know. He lives everyday to the fullest and he refuses to waste any of the time he has on this earth. And I would suggest you start doing the same because you never know when your light is going to go out. So maybe you don't agree with how he lives his life. I don't give a fuck what you think. Now you think about that as you go around judging other people's lives."
I turned and pushed my cart down the aisle to find Jimmy hiding on the other side. When he saw me, he pulled me into a huge hug.
"What's that for, sweetie?" I asked. I wasn't even mad anymore, I just felt sorry for her.
"I heard what you two were saying and you stood up for me," he said smiling.
I laughed. "Of course I did. Now, I want a rematch on that buggy race. This time I will beat you."

No one on the site is wrong about her being a great author. Everyone has an opinion and you should respect it. I'm not saying this just because the author is my best friend, I'm saying this because everyone has an opinion and you kinda took the whole "constructive criticism" thing too far. I'm not sure if you meant it this way, but it came quite rude. Her stories all have a lot of views and great ratings. I don't think this entire site is wrong.
ok i have been reading this all day then i went through the comments. i have to be honest...i barely got through it. its hard to keep up with and the story isnt even very good. people saying that you are one of the best writers on here are wrong. ^.^ just saying
