Mr. And Mrs. Brian Haner Jr.
Visiting the graves of my parents a few days ago felt like a big weight was lifted from my shoulders when I heard the voice of my mother telling me that they forgive me. I couldn’t be happier to hear my mother’s sweet sounding voice speaking to me. Felicity and I searched for hours before we finally found a dress for me to wear. It did fit the whole Halloween theme of my wedding. The dress was black with white spider-like webs with tiny red tear drops and the dress flowed down to the floor. I loved it! There’s not a better wedding dress out there that I would have been able to find. I got myself fitted for it and then ordered it. Felicity and I had picked it up yesterday and tomorrow is the wedding. She made it clear to me that she wanted all the girls to stay at my house so we could get me all fancied up before I was to walk out the door and be married to the man I love.
We had the Bachelorette Party just hours ago and there was a little drinking going but we ended it before any of us could get shit faced drunk and besides Felicity has a baby so she needed to take it easily with the drinking. I lay here in bed not able to sleep. These nerves of mine always get in the way but it didn’t take long before the over-thinking and nervousness sent me into a dreamless sleep.

The alarm clock blared out loudly and I opened my eyes to the rising sun. I smiled and pulling myself up and looked over at the window. Today I’m going to be Mrs. Brian Haner Jr.
“Good morning Mrs. Haner!!” Sammy said as she flung open my bedroom door.
“Damn and I thought I was the only one up right now.”
“Nope. We had breakfast downstairs and then we need the rest of the day to get you ready for this amazing day.” She said still smiling like a mad fool. I shook my head at her and got out of bed. I followed her down to the kitchen where Felicity had breakfast already prepared. How in the hell did I not smell her good cooking? We sat around the table and ate the intoxicating food. I love her cooking!!
Just like Sammy had said when she barged through my bedroom door that they needed all day to get me ready…they weren’t kidding. I felt like a doll being assembled together in a factory. After I had taken a shower, Felicity had my beautiful wedding dress lying out on my bed and each of the girls had their own job to do on me. Felicity and Sammy had to get me into the wedding dress, Hannah was in charge of my makeup since hers was always so good, Anna and Aura were in charge of keeping any of the guys out of the house, Tina, Krissy, and Catherine were to make sure everything was ready for the reception, and Aunt Maxie and Dakota were doing my hair. My Aunt Maxie told me that Uncle Lucas was making sure that all the guys were ready.
My makeup was ready and both Felicity and Sammy helped me into my dress and zipped it perfectly up my spine. Sammy strapped on my boots to add a hint of warrior as my sister called it. I couldn’t agree more with her. Tina, Krissy, and Catherine started on my hair when I sat back down in front of the mirror. I watched as each of them did a part of my hair in fantastic curls and then pinned the veil on me. I looked absolutely amazing and from the smiles on their faces, they loved the way I looked as well. Aunt Maxie looked down at her watch before looking around at all of us.
“It’s that time. Let’s get you downstairs and I’ll check and see if everything is ready.” She said and we all left my room. I carefully stepped down each step as I held up the end of the long flowing dress. Sammy grabbed my Black and White roses from the fridge as I pulled the veil over my face. Aunt Maxie came back into the house with a smile on her face.
“Everything is ready for your arrival. Brian is standing up there with the other guys and he looks just as nervous as you do Serenity.”
“I’m so nervous. I just hope I don’t trip over my clumsy ass feet.” I said laughing to break the tension.
“You’ll do just fine. When I got married, I was nervous as hell too. I’ll go out there and cue the music and when that door opens you come on out.” I nodded and took a deep breath as I followed her to the door. Maxie closed it as she went out and I could hear the music through the door and my stupid nerves were making me shake slightly.
I took another deep breath before the door opened. Aunt Maxie had Sammy, Hannah, Dakota, Tina, Krissy, Catherine, and Felicity all walking through the yard and spooky fog. The door opened once again and I left the house and walked through the fog. My slow pace made everyone look at me in awe and camera flashes went off left and right. I stared right at Brian as I got closer and closer to him. I stopped in front of him and he took my hands as the preacher looked at both of us with a smile on his face.
“Who gives this lovely bride away?”
“Her Aunt and Uncle do.” Uncle Lucas said with a smile on his face as he stood next to Johnny.
“We are gathered here today to witness the marriage of Brian Elwin Haner Jr. and Serenity Ray Druthers. Marriage is a unity of 2 people. Where 2 people were once 2 separate human beings will become of one flesh. God performed the very first wedding ceremony in the Garden of Eden. Marriage is considered the pinnacle of human relationships, embodying a unique kind of intimacy, and love. God made woman from the rib of man so he would have a companion with him for the rest of his life. To have someone to love and cherish. To talk to and have to love. The Lord shines his light down on this couple in front of us today because he knows the love and unity these young people have for each other. I understand each of them have written their own vows and would like to share them to everyone. Brian, if you will start please.” I watched as Brian looked down at our joined hands and then into my eyes.
“Serenity, you’re the best girl I’ve ever met and you’re so good to my son Damien. I know he thinks of you highly and loves you like you were his own mother. Baby, all these years we’ve been as friends and then becoming lovers…I just can’t begin to describe the joy it makes my life seem. I will forever love you and nothing in this world will ever keep me from it.” Brian said keeping his eyes locked onto mine. I smiled and felt tears pricking my eyes as his heart warming words melted my heart.
“Serenity…you may now speak your vows.”
“Brian…you’re my best friend in the whole wide world and nothing makes me happier than to be with you. There were times I didn’t think I could make it through the life that was handed all of us but you were always there to lift me up and reassure me that everything will turn out right. It’s hard to stay away from you for too long of a time and I know when I’m gone, you worry a lot and I worry a lot about you. When I’ve felt like balling my eyes, I remember that you’re always there and when this life is too much for our bodies to deal with…we both will go to a place where there is no more sorrow or pain.” I said with so much emotion and I could hear my sister sniffling behind me. Brian’s eyes were sparkling with tears but he fought as hard as I did to keep them from spilling over.
“That was some beautiful words from 2 people who are deeply in love. Now I ask if there’s anyone who thinks these 2 people should not be married, speak now or forever hold your peace.” I looked over the crowd but no one said anything. I locked my eyes back on Brian as he smiled.
“Since no one has any objections, Brian Elwin Haner Jr. do you take Serenity Ray Druthers to be you’re lawfully wedded Wife? To Honor, love, to have and to hold for all the days of your life? In sickness and in health till death do you part?”
“I do.” He said smiling.
“Do you Serenity Ray Druthers take Brian Elwin Haner Jr. to be you’re lawfully wedding Husband? To Honor, Love, to have and to hold for all the days of your life. In sickness and in health till death do you part?”
“I do.” I said smiling just as big as Brian.
“May we have the rings please?” Matt handed the preacher our wedding rings and in turn the preacher gave me Brian’s and gave Brian mine.
“Brian, please repeat after me: With this ring, I thee wed.”
“With this ring…I thee wed.” Brian repeated as he slipped the ring onto my finger.
“Serenity please repeat after me: With this ring, I thee Wed.”
“With this ring, I thee wed.” I said smiling as I slipped his ring onto his finger.
“By the power vested in me by the state of California and in front of God and all the people gathered here today…I pronounce you Husband and Wife. You may kiss your bride.” Brian lifted the veil from my face and kissed me with more passion and I had to stop him before he got too carried away. We walked down the same way we came in and the fog gathered around us making us seem to disappear. I wrapped my arms around Brian as we got into the house and kissed him hard.
“I love you Brian.” I said resting my forehead on his.
“I love you too Serenity.” The door opened behind us and all the guys and girls came into the house congratulating us. We all went over to where the reception area was and I danced with my uncle. After my feet had gotten tired, I sat down beside Brian and the guys. I know I’ll remember this day for as long as I live.
“Can I have the attention of everyone present?” We looked over at the stage and my uncle was standing there.
“It’s time for the married couple to have their first dance before we conclude.” Brian stood to his feet and Disturbed’s song Darkness came through the speakers. He held out his hand and I took it and he led me onto the dance floor as it cleared. He wrapped his arms protectively around me as we swayed from side to side. I looked into those chocolate eyes and I knew I was the luckiest person in the whole world. I have the man of my dream standing in front of me with such love and passion in his eyes for me. I love Brian and there’s nothing in this world that can stop it.
