From Normal Teenage Girl To Survivalist

I watched as General Halverson clasped the Congressional Medal of Honor around the neck of Serenity. Her face lit up with enthusiasm and pride and I know, with myself included, we all are astonished at the bravery and charisma that the young woman possesses.

“We all should be indebted to the bravery these people have to risk their lives in order for us to go back to normal. In my personal opinion, the people you see standing before you today…are heroes and they will become a part of this nation’s history and will always be remembered when the generations progress.” General Halverson said before shaking the hands of all the people on stage. I think this heroic achievement needs to be spread to the world.

All the people left the stage and some of the other refugees shook their hands and giving them thanks and praises for their gratitude. I watched as Felicity, Serenity, and Brian walked out of the cafeteria. I will let them have their time alone but I think tonight I’ll ask for some kind of insight on what they experienced.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Serenity’s POV~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I walked out of the Cafeteria looking down at the medals that were pinned to my shirt and the one that hung from my neck. I might be wearing the Congressional Medal of Honor but my father deserves the credit. I will dedicate my medal of honor to my father.
“I’ll leave you 2 alone to do whatever. I’m going to find Jimmy.” Felicity said as she winked at me before leaving just me and Brian. I took Brian’s hand in mine and led him out of the building.
“Why are we out here?”
“I just want to enjoy the beautiful day with my man.” I said smiling as I leaned against my truck. Brian put his hands on both sides of me boxing be in between him and my truck. He lowered his head and lightly ran his lips over mine in a compassionate manner.
“It is a beautiful day isn’t it?”
“It sure is Brian.” I said smiling.
“But the day is nothing compared to the beauty I see right now.”
“Brian, I already know that my truck is the sexiest thing alive.” I said laughing.
“Oh yeah it is! I can’t wait to cuddle up with it, wash it, and polish it to death.” We looked at each other before busting into a fit of laughter.
“We’re nuts Brian. You want a smoke?” I asked ducking under his arms and opening the driver’s side door.
“Sure.” I grabbed my pack from the glove box along with my lighter and lit 2 of them. I handed one to Brian and I took a huge puff from it. The smoke sat in my lungs for a minute before escaping through my lips. We stood there just looking over the scenery and basking in the sun. I don’t think there’s anywhere else I’d rather be besides in the arms of Brian.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Robert Clayton’s POV~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I talked to several people as I waited on Serenity and Brian to come back into the cafeteria but they never showed until it was dinner time. The smell of food made my stomach growl with hunger. The people lined up as the cooks brought out the food to the serving line. I grabbed myself a plate and only put a small amount of the food onto it before sitting down in my cot to eat. When I finished, I took my empty plate back to the serving line with the others. I scanned the room for Serenity and I spotted her going out of the cafeteria again but she was alone. I grabbed some paper and a pencil from one of my bags and followed her. She went into a room and I waited a minute before going over to the office. I looked in and she was cleaning a huge gun. I knocked on the door and she looked over at me.

“Can I help you?”

“Yes. My name is Robert Clayton and I’m a journalist for The New York Times. I was listening to General Halverson speak while he gave your group those medals and I was wondering if I could do a story on you and your gang?” I explained as I came into the office and standing in front of the desk.

“So you’re a reporter?”

“I guess you could say that but when everything gets back to normal and the paper can start writing again…I want everyone to know your courage and admiration for this great country.” I said in sincere form.

“I guess that would be alright. Please take a seat.” I pulled up a chair and sat down.

“What would you like know?”

“I’d like to know everything. I want to know about your life before this terrible disease and to the present day.” I said and she looked down at her hands.

“Is that a problem?” I asked and she shook her head no.

“No Mr. Clayton…So what you want to write about is sort of like a biography?”

“Yes you could say that. I’ll have to leave out any gory details but everyone will know how you went from normal teenage girl to survivalist.” I said as I wrote down From Normal Teenage Girl to Survivalist for the title of my article.

“Alright…Well I was born…” I listened and wrote down important notes about her life and there were a lot of things that were really fantastic. I mean the way she took care of her sister Felicity, hunting everyday so they could have something to eat, finding warm clothing for the winter when they didn’t have a home to live in, spending countless hours gathering up supplies to Stray proof the old run down home they finally found and stocking the home with perishable food items, gun, and ammunition.

It was really remarkable how one person could take care of as many people as she did. I listened as she told me about delivering a woman named Dakota’s baby boy. I made it a point to tell about the birth and about she had to make the terrible decision of putting her parents to rest.

“Their graves are in the back yard of my home in Huntington Beach, California. It was very hard to bury the 2 people who cared for me since I was a tiny little baby.”

“I bet it was. I never had to deal with burying my parents because they died long before this all happened.” I said nodding as I continued to write down some points to really emphasize. She continued to tell me about the messages her father left her and I made it a point to include the name of her departed father and mother. I would have beated myself up too if I had to be the one to end the suffering of my parents. I don't know if I could have handled it like she has.

"Well that's about it...There are other details I could give you but I know you have to keep the gore out of it."

"Thank you Serenity for telling me all this. Everyone will know who you are and the work you did for the Guardians and your father will be mentioned for coming up with the formula." I said standing to my feet. I looked over just as the door opened and Brian came through the door.

"Am I interrupting something?"

"No Mr. Haner. I was just writing down some information about the events in Serenity's life so it could be published in The New York Times. I mean whenever we're up and running again." I explained as I walked to the door.

"The New York Times? Wow."

"Thank you Serenity for the information. I'll leave you two alone." I said nodding before leaving the office. I shut the door behind me and went back into the Cafeteria to begin writing the article. This is going to inspirational and informative to all man kind.
