Nevada Bound
I stayed up with Jimmy on night watch since there was no way I would be able to go to sleep. My nightmares have been getting worse and luckily no one has been able to witness me shooting up out of bed in a cold sweat and tears flowing down my face and that’s the way I want to keep it. I don’t want Felicity to be upset because I’m having these nightmares. I knew if she seen the way I wake up after having them, she would try something to help me. I don't need her help with a simple little nightmare. I watched the sun rise over the ocean and then footsteps coming down the stairs.
"You're up already?"
"I couldn't sleep. I need to talk to you anyways." I said getting up from my seat and walking into the kitchen with her.
"What do you want to talk to me about?"
"Now don't get all up in the air about this because we need these things for our stuff. I was thinking on behalf of the group and..." I started rambling but Felicity cut me off.
"Will you please stop rambling and tell me what you did?"
"Jimmy and I went out to the dealership down the road last and we brought home 2 more cars." I said and I braced myself for her yelling but all she did was walk out of the kitchen. I followed closely behind her as she opened the front door and looked at the 2 new cars parked in the driveway.
"At least you got 2 good cars. Who's going to be driving those?"
"You mean you're not going to yell and scream and shit?" I asked in astonishment.
"Why would I? I mean yeah it is a shock but I was thinking last night about the bed of your truck. What if you need to get to the machine gun in a hurry? So answer the question. Who's driving those cars?"
"I was thinking that Jacob, John, and Mike can ride in the Camaro with their things and the food and Sammy can drive the Challenger." I explained and she nodded.
"I think we should go and wake the others so we can get a little bit of food in them before we head on out." I nodded and followed her back into the house. I shut the front door and I went upstairs to wake everyone while she fixed the food. Everyone got woken up pretty easily and they went downstairs with their bags. We all either sat in the kitchen or the living room as we ate.
After we ate, I helped Felicity load the cooler and pack the meat in ice before carrying it out to the Camaro where we hoisted it into the trunk. I grabbed the first wagon we had and attached it to the back of the truck and the other to Matt's truck. We went back into the house where everyone was seated in either the chairs or the floor.
"So here's the game plan...we're going to drive as far as we can today and stop only to refill our gas tanks and stomaches. Felicty and Dante will be riding in my truck, Brian, Matt, Jimmy, Zacky, and Johnny will be in their own cars of course along with their children and dogs, Jacob, Jimmy and I took the liberty in going out last night to the dealership down the road and getting you a vehicle. Mike and John will be riding with you in your new Camaro. Sammy, you, Dakota, Dominyk, Jackson Jr., and Hannah will be in the Challenger. So does everyone understand the game plan?" I explained and looked around at all of them and they nodded.
I helped them lug their things out to the cars and get everything loaded before getting into my truck and leading the group away from my home. I hate having to leave my home for a second time but to get rid of these fuckers and be able to live like we did before all this shit happened...is well fucking worth it. I carefully dogded the adandoned cars on the interstate. Don't people know that it's easier and faster to get away from the Stray's and Packs if you have a vehicle? I guess not. I weaved in and out of the cars, trucks, and big rigs (there's some trucker talk for ya!) with such precision you would think I had been doing this all my life...oh wait I have. I watched the clock on my truck and seen it was almost 6 in the afternoon. I pulled off into a rest stop with the others close behind me. I parked my truck and cut the engine before getting out with Felicity and Dante. Dante helped Felicity get the cooler out of Jacob's Camaro and they built a small fire to get to the cooking.
I looked around the area and it would be a good place to stop and sleep for the night. There's a lot of trees around and good places to get some sleep and for a few people to stand guard. I helped the others set out sleeping bags on the ground around the small fire before we stuffed our hungry faces with the food Felicity prepared. Even though she doesn't have a stove to cook food on, she sure as hell can cook on an open fire. She must have gotten the cooking skills from mom because I got the brains from dad. I really miss them both and some how I know they are watching over all of us even though dad knew the others a little while except for Uncle Lucas, Maxie, Max, and Lucas Jr. Mom would have loved to see her family before she was turned into the dead.
"I'll take first watch with Dante, Mike, John, and Sammy." I said as I helped Felicity wash the dishes off in the sink of the bathroom.
"You've been driving all day and I took a nap. I'll watch with them."
"You sure?" I asked and she nodded. We finished up the dishes and we went back over to the others. I laid down as the sun was fully set and night was upon us. I looked up into the dark sky and the stars that adorn the black expanse. I always loved the night sky and looking into those bright stars made my mind wonder away from my problems and make it seem like nothing could ever hurt anyone I love. I sighed in content as I closed my eyes and slipped into a deep sleep.
"You're up already?"
