Things I Can Change

Newfound friends

After hours of non-stop music and unpacking, the girls thought some drinks were in order. We figured we could stop by the bar that Emma is applying to and maybe get to know the area.

“What should I wear?! I don’t want to look trashy, but definitely not proffesional. I mean it’s a bar! I just really want to get hired April!” Emma said worridly, leaning towards being a bit upset.

“Relax dude!” April threw a cheeto at her from the couch. “Put anything on! You’ll look hot regardless.”

“I just want to get this job! Maybe I guess as a distraction as well as a way to bring home the bacon. I want a new start to everything and getting myself financially ready is definitley important in that. I just want everything to fall into place.” Emma said falling down onto the couch, sighing.
April went to give her a hug and attempted to reason with her, maybe to calm her worried thoughts.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about this but I feel like its something we need to try. We are both survivors and we both want to leave our past behind us. We also need to never forget what happened. It serves as a lesson for us. We just have to get past it. I’m not saying we have to build a wall forgetting it but we have to build a new life somehow. It starts with leaving the baggage behind us and not looking back. It won’t be easy but we have eachother to lean on.” They both got teary eyed and embraced eachother. “So you will get this job, I’ll find something for me to do, and we will be two hot bitches ready to take on the world!” April finished.

“I’m so glad we decided to do this” Emma said letting a few tears fall. “But now we have to go get ready to get our groove on!”

“No one says Get your groove on anymore Emma.” April said while getting up jokingly.

“Oh shut up.” April responded and threw a throw pillow at her.

They moved from their unpacked livingroom and were off to get ready.

***
They had just gotten to the bar. April looked over to Emma to see her once again with the jitters.
“Dude, chill. We are going to go in, have a drink or two, mingle, and get to know our new community. Just try to relax.” April tried reassuring her.

“Okay okay lets go.”

They hop off the car and walk in to the bar. They walk straight to the bar to take a seat on two bar stools. This really pretty, very exotic looking woman stood behind the bar, ordering around everyone else. She must be the manager or something. She must be who Emma has to go to for the job. We looked around and made some small chat with this incredibly handsome bartender. These Californian’s just pop out of their moms looking like Abercrombie & Fitch models.
Not too long after, the door swung open, blinding us with the sunlight. Three husky male sillhoutettes were walking in through the door. It might have been the sunlight or maybe just their hormones skyrocketing that left them like a deer and headlights once they saw who walked in the door.

“Hello neighbors” Brian greeted them both but staring a bit more intently on April. Next to him Matt staring at Emma and Zack wondering why his two best friends looked like buffoons.

“Stalking us?” April rebutted sarcastically, but jokingly.

“Would it be a problem if we were?” Brian responded.
April responded with a smirk. Harmless flirting was fine right? Right?

“Would you two care two join us at a booth?” Matt cut in.

“Sure.” Both girls chimed in.

They all go sit together at a rounded booth.
“So tell us about yourselves. Introductions weren’t really made when we were trespassing.” Brian said.

“You’re right about that.” Emma said while laughing. “How about you give us something to work with and maybe we can tell you about ourselves.”

“Okay fine.” Matt said after pondering for a moment, jokingly of course, earning a laugh from the girls. “Born and raised here in Huntington. Currently employed as the lead singer in a band with none other than the marvelous Synyster Gates, a.k.a Brian Haner, Zacky Vengeance a.k.a Zack Baker, Jimmy the Rev and Johnny Christ, and M. Shadows, also known as me.” Matt said signaling to the other two boys.

“Isn’t that cute!” April said jokingly offending the boys.

“Cute, woman we aren’t cute! We are badass!” Brian defended his wounded ego.

“Fine you can be badass.” April finished.

After a few more drinks, the head bartender, who we found out is named Eva joined us. She seemed really cool and was a friendly girl. Emma really hoped she could get the job. It seemed like a fun environment.
“Didn’t you apply here?” Eva directed towards Emma.

“Uh yeah haha. Yesterday actually. We just moved here.” Emma nervously responded with everyone else watching.

“Great!” Eva said slapping her thighs in a a’bout to get something done’ manner. She seemed to tense up as a rush of people were coming in. “You’re hired. You start right now.” She said looking back at the crowd.
Emma looked dumbfounded. She didn’t know how to respond.

“If you want the job, come now!” Eva called over her shoulder as she walked back to the bar.

Emma quickly got up and went over to the bar where Eva began to give her a quick rundown.
April and Brian seem to be flirting, but treading very lightly. They both are hesitant to seem too pushy and are really aiming to get to know eachother. Matt was too busy staring at Emma in action. She was already doing a great job. She managed the commotion so well. Matt was practially drooling. April, Brian, and Zack all made fun of him without his knowing.
After a bit, April noticed that Zack was looking down at his phone a lot but his face looked a bit pained or worried. April whispered to Brian asking him if he knew if anything was wrong.

“I have no idea honestly.” He replied. “Hey Zack, you good man?” This brought Matt’s attention back to the group.

“I don’t know really. I’m fine, but Milla, somethings up with her.” He looked up and responded quietly.

“Milla’s his girlfriend.” Brian informed April.

“What do you mean something’s up?” Matt asked.

“I’m worried about her. She has been really upset lately. She won’t tell me why. I haven’t even spoken to her all day.”

“Any hint on what could be going on?” Brian asked.

“Other than somewhat avoiding me, not really.” Zack looked like a sad puppy, pouting like none other.

“Is she coming to the barbecue? Maybe some time with us will get her back to normal, or at least make her open up to you.” Matt said with reassurance.

“She said she is coming. Maybe it will work. I just really can’t lose her. She has quickly become one of the most important people in my life. I didn’t think I could feel this way about anyone.”

“I’m sorry man. I’m sure it will work out. Just give her some time. She will open up.” Brian comforted his friend.
April felt really bad seeing him go through this. She wondered what could be wrong with this Camilla girl. She really hoped it will work itself out because Zack seemed like a really nice guy.

Emma came back not too long after.

“How you like it here, working woman?” April teased?

“It’s great! Busy as fuck, but great! Eva is really cool,” Emma responded. She seemed to be full of energy. Matt’s jaw was almost on the floor. Brian kicked his shin to get him to snap out of it. This resulted in a yelp making them all erupt in laughter. Matt was a real intimidating guy but man could this guy be silly putty in Emma’s hands.

“So, what are you girls doing this weekend?”

“Uh nothing besides unpacking and painting and stuff.” Emma said while pondering, looking at April.

“Come to our barbecue. It’s at Matt’s. You can then be properly introduced to everyone.” Brian said.

“Sounds great! We’d love to.” Emma said after looking over at April to make sure it was okay.

“Great.” Brian and Matt both said with what looked like a permanent smile etched on their faces.

“Oh shit, we really gotta go Emma.” April said after looking at the time on her phone. They didn’t want to stay out to late. They didn’t have the time to be out all night and in bed all night yet.

“Shit, yeah. Sorry guys, We have to call it an early night.”

The three of them erupted in ‘Aw no’’s. The girls scribbled their numbers on a napkin and left it to the boys.

“I had a great time guys. Can’t wait for the barbecue!” Emma said happily. She seemed to be beaming with positive energy at the moment. Was it the job or Brian maybe? Whatever it was, it was great to see her happy. April was happy, just worried. She didn’t want the both of them to jump into something to then get heartbroken. Maybe she needs to think less and enjoy the life she has now, just like she told Emma earlier.

They all said bye to each other and were on their way.You can be sure that those two guys were thinking that they hated to see them go, but loved to watch them leave.
